Mu Shen's smile dropped when he saw her face pause. He called out her name but he could see her in trance as slowly a lonely teardrop fell from her cheek.
He came closer to her to shake her a little until she came out of it.
She looked at him blankly until she remembered his question.
"Dead," she said as she wiped away her tear.
Mu Shen nodded and went back to his seat, realizing how much of a jerk he has been asking her that question so he mumbled out a sorry which she acted like didn't hear.
"When did your brother do his first murder?" this question was something he was always curious about. Xiulin's eyes turned cold as she remembered.
"12," she said as she pursed her lips.
What might make a 12-year-old kill a full-grown man?
She didn't know, but she knew he did it for her..
She was always a problem.
Mu Shen's eyes almost fell off his sockets. 12?
What was he doing at 12? Maybe baking cupcakes.
"Why," he asked, to which she only shrugged with I don't know but he knew otherwise.
Though he didn't know the age, everyone in the council knew that he did his first murder for his beloved sister.
"So you are telling me your brother was a murderer at 12?" he said, looking at her, though he already knew her answer to which she nodded.
"I don't know if I am surprised to hear this or it sounds self-explanatory," he said, trying to get a reaction out of her. But she seemed cold as before. Which only increased his curiosity about his next question.
"When did you do your first murder?" he was pretty sure she did at least one which most probably would be in her late 20s according to him or something near to that.
"10," she said, looking at him and continuing, "Do you know something Shen?" she said as she got up and went towards the window.
"When you cause someone to die, life becomes meaningless, but mine somehow was meaningful because of him. When I felt like a monster he was right there with me. He always was. And I… I left him by dying" she said as she saw a bird helping another bird fly.
"I couldn't justify my life decisions, saying, I'm a good person because I'm not ever since the blood of everyone stained them," she said raising her hands looking at them.
Mu Shen sighed, looking at her. To be honest, he wanted to help her, but he wasn't sure if he would be any kind of help given that the person she wants to meet had been missing for a while now.
Adrian hasn't shown his face in the council for the past 6 months and no one knew why, but Mu Shen could now understand the reason. How could he be right there, sitting like nothing happened when his sister was killed.
Though her death was a huge shock to him it made sense seeing her right in front of him. He couldn't help but think about his friend who has been smitten with her ever since he has kept his eyes on her.
His friend would be heartbroken to know that he lost her once and if he lost her now again, he would never forgive him for hiding it from him.
Ever since Jun Zixuan has taken over the underworld he had been working a lot with Adrian and that's what scared him the most. Adrian wouldn't think twice before killing him for even thinking about his sister.
"Elena, I want to help you. I trust you, but I don't have enough power to make you meet your brother. I never had direct business with him, though I have a few contacts which could get you near him" He said looking at her.
Xiulin's eyes brightened, that was enough for her. At Least being nearby, she could take care of him and speak to him.
"But," he said, contemplating if he should continue or not "I know someone who is working very closely with your brother who might have his direct contact," he said looking at her eyes which looked at him with so much hope.
"Who is it?" she asked curiously.
"Jun Zixuan"
