Chapter 8

“*hic* *hic*.”

She’s been sobbing for a while now.

I don’t know how to get her to stop, but also I don’t know how to comfort her.

She just lost something very precious, someone very precious.

My hands are a little filthy from the dirt, I had to dig using my hands- we didn’t have a shovel. But at least the ground was soft enough to dig a little…

But now I can’t even reach over and pat her on the head to comfort her. I don’t want her to get dirty either.

It’s not like she had it for very long, maybe just a year at most. But she had the brightest smiles when she held the little bird in her arms.

How did it die? Neither of us know, and now no one will either.

She did say that the bird didn’t look well the night before… but we both thought it would get better.

Obviously, that wasn’t the case.

...

I never knew just how fragile life can be… It was sick just a little and now it’s gone.

“... Lillian…”

“What should I tell her Majesty?” she suddenly sobs.
