Chapter 34

“And… done.”

I smile as I hold up my handiwork.

“My, it looks lovely, Ann.”

Mother is sitting next to me in the greenhouse while I was embroidering.

“Do you think he’ll like it, Mother?” I can’t help but ask as I take out the cloak from the embroidery circle.

Mother spreads out the cloak in front of us to inspect my work.

It’s a dark navy cloak, one I’ve embroidered the animal symbol of the Garnets, a red and gold hawk.

It’s a gift for Phoenix who sent word that he would be arriving today. I’ve been working on the cloak for days, taking the chance knowing that he would be none the wiser.

Embroidery was one of the few hobbies I had when I was in my own body. Not only embroidery but knitting and crocheting were both some of my favorite past time aside from reading books.

It was all I could actually do when I was too sickly to have any other hobbies, but they were still relaxing, therapeutic even.
