Chapter 2:Extra Baggage
I finally woke up after being basked by the sunlight through the window. I found a change of clothes in the facilities and washed myself. There was a standing mirror and my reflection is of a 12-13 year-old boy with black hair and average looks. What makes it odd is that there is not even a speck of a wound on my body, it furthers my suspicion of her words. The clothes I was wearing were indeed worn out, bloodied, and torn. But, they were baggy and didn't fit my stature at all. I could be healed or simply being put on another set of clothes to fit her narrative, after all, 3 days should not be enough for any wounds to completely fade. After dressing up in a buttoned shirt and long pants, I cleared my thoughts and went out of the inn. Outside the inn, there are two tall skeletal horses that are attached to a new wagon along with a skeleton coachman who is holding on a flute with its jaw.
"a..." [-]
I was stunned on the spot and tried to make sense of the current scene but before I could do that, the skeleton that has been looking at me for a while now made a clear sound of a recorder that he's holding on to.
"I give up.'' [-]
At that same time, my guardian peeked her head out of the wagon and said
"You're late! Wait where's your sword? Do you need daddy to pick it up for you?'' [Calli]
Cali said it in a teasing tone. I was flustered and embarrassed by my mistake so I turned towards the inn immediately.
As I landed my first step towards the inn, the purple-haired woman exited the inn gracefully while carrying the sword.
"I believe you dropped this.'' [purple haired woman]
She bent down to my eye level and handed the sword over to me gently.
"Thank you, i was going to look for it'' [-]
"You're welcome, you should leave now before your dad gets cranky'' [blue haired woman]
She even cracked a joke to ease my mind, I am truly thankful for her help.
I entered from the back of the wagon and saw that there were 2 big boxes which I believe would be the aforementioned supplies. I look at Calli and she's wearing a pair of chic sunglasses.
"Erm.., do get one of those?'' [-]
'"No.'' [Calli]
The woman with blue hair stood behind the wagon and proceeded to bid us farewell.
"The demon lord feels very sorry being unavailable to send you two off in person. But she will make amends for it the next time we meet.'' [Blue haired woman]
"Goodbye A-chan, thanks as always.'' [Calli]
The carriage started to move, she waved at me with a smile and I waved back at her happily. After a while, we exited one of the gates and the scenery changed into plains.
"So, what's at North?" [-]
"Yamato, the beast continent.The Frozen Vault to be specific." [Calli]
"It's at the very North of Yamato." [Calli]
"Why there?" [-]
"We have a job to do" [Calli]
"What job?" [-]
"I will tell you more when we reach there." [Calli]
Our wagon suddenly hit a bump on the road and one of the lids of the boxes seems to have lifted slightly and slammed down at full force after the landing.
"AH!! ITE!! " [Box]
We both look towards the direction of the boxes. An odd silence spreads in the wagon.
"I'll take the left, you'll take the right." [Calli]
"Wait wouldn't it be dangerous for me." [-]
"Anything would hardly become a threat for me alright. Just trust me, I'll protect you." [Calli]
I'm still anxious, I can't fully trust her yet. But I think maybe she needs me alive for some reasons at least.
"Very well then." [-]
I gently opened the box, and inside is a pink-haired girl crouched in the box looking at me with eyes that were slightly red from tearing. She was holding the top of her head and wearing a white Miko costume.
"Nya..nya-hallo?" [Miko]
We got her out of the box and the Miko proceeded to ask for forgiveness from Calli.
"I'M SORRY CALLI !!! I have no excuse for my mistake, please forgive me Calli ! " [Miko]
Calli let out a breath looking disappointed at the miko.
"Haah, just get up and sit properly." [Calli]
"But before that! Is Mio-sha going to die??" [Miko]
The miko looks at her with shaken eyes and trembling hands. I wonder if it has to do with our job. Calli squats down and holds her arms, she speaks in a gentle tone to the miko.
"Nobody's dying Miko, we are going there to help her. So you should calm down." [Calli]
The miko sat beside me finally settled down after an hour. Her spirits returned and began to strike a conversation with me.
"My name is the ELITE Sakura Miko, Demon Lord of Sike Mura. May I know yours?" [ELITE Miko]
"I uh, don't have one." [-]
"WHAT! Calli, you didn't name him?"[ELITE Miko]
"I haven't, but now that it's been mentioned I'll take this opportunity to say it." [Calli]
Calli looks at me with a serious expression
"I gave a lot of thought to your name, and yesterday I believe I found the right one." [Calli]
I would be lying if I were to say that I'm not having any expectations of getting one, I don't really have a good naming sense so I had to rely on her. But, I have high expectations that Calli would nail it.
"Your name is Edge-" [Calli]
"NO!" [-]
I take that back, I was horribly wrong about everything. Looks can be deceiving more than it seems.
"Hey I wasn't finished, just hear me out. Trust me, you'll love it for sure."[Calli]
Knowing her so far, She uses the word trust sparingly and this might mean she upholds it in her way. I choose to trust her on this, maybe it's another word and I interrupted it in mid-sentence.I began feeling optimistic again.
"Your name is Edgelord."[Calli]
"..."[Edgelord]
She looks proud of it, very very proud of it, I could tell that. But I don't feel like ever trusting her again for the rest of the journey.
"Whatever, I'll take it. It wouldn't matter anyway."[Edgelord]
Calli seems to be still enthusiastic about the matter.
"There is a meaning behind the name if that's what you would like to know?"[Calli]
"No, there's no meaning after all. "[Edgelord]
The atmosphere seems to die down. Seeing that, Calli decides to change her approach.
"That's ok, when you feel curious you can just ask." [Calli]
Soon after, it was lunch and Miko prepared the food for us to eat. I ate it in silence.
