Chapter 3:Konpeko konpeko konpeko
The first day passed by quietly, the wagon only stopped when we needed to relieve ourselves and we ate rationed foods that don't need to be heated up. Besides that, the wagon never stops probably because of the horse not needing any rest or to eat just as the coachman. I stopped talking needlessly for the next 3 days out of spite and only listened to their conversation. They didn't have much to talk about despite Miko trying to make the situation better. Miko is short-statured, cutesy, and polite, but she seems to be an airhead. Even so, that does add to her charm especially for her voice that makes me want to pamper her like a baby. On the fourth day, I couldn't take it anymore and I glanced at Calli from time to time thinking of the right moment to ask her about this trip and my sword.
"Just say it already, I don't bite. "[Calli]
She noticed, I flustered and just proceeded to ask her about the sword I had been fiddling around for the past 3 days.
"What's this sword? Is it special?" [Edgelord]
The sword sheath is black with wavy patterns on top of it and the hilt of the sword is in the shape of a cross. The blade is curved with one side sharpened and the other side flat. More importantly, the blade also has wavy patterns on it. Miko who seemed to have been holding in for days spouted out excitedly.
"Yes, it's a katana! most likely made out of Damascus steel !"[ELITE Miko]
"Is there something special about this blade?" [Edgelord]
"It's what we used to use in Yamato, but not anymore. The sword easily breaks, It can't parry unlike longswords and it takes longer to master. "
"It is especially bad for newbies to use them when they hunt down monsters."[ELITE Miko]
"Besides, it's currently too long for your stature."[ELITE Miko]
"I see, thanks for explaining it Miko."[Edgelord]
"It's ELITE Miko!"[ELITE Miko]
I turned to Calli, and asked her regarding the schedule.
"How long until we reach Yamato?" [Edgelord]
"7 days." [Calli]
"And the vault?" [Edgelord]
'' 20." [Cali]
"I thought we are going to reach in 2 more days."[Edgelord]
"Well, we are reaching the Endless Woods in 2 days before entering their borders. " [Calli]
"And that's where I'll shine." [ELITE Miko]
Said Miko triumphantly.
"Can I have a map?" [Edgelord]
"Truth is, I don't have one. Borders and countries change from time to time, there's no point in keeping them." [Calli]
"Sorry I didn't bring mine, I left in a hurry." [Elite Miko]
They do sound convincing from the way they behave.
"How do we know that we're on the right course then? are there other ways to get a map?"[Edgelord]
"I've been there, and yes you could get one when we pass by the capital."[Calli]
"Alrighty then."[Edgelord]
I decided to address the elephant in the room next.
"So about the skeletons... What are they."[Edgelord]
"It's my gift. Skills, Inheritance, Magic, Bloodline, Curse, yada yada. You name it, they have it."[Calli]
"Do I have one?" [Edgelord]
"Probably, that's something you'll get to learn more about when we reach our destination. It's best for you to make your own assumptions from what you see and only then learn from the basics." [Calli]
"Thank you, I'll try to learn as much as I can. By the way, the skeleton can play the recorder can he?" [Edgelord]
We looked at the coachman and she yelled his name cheerfully.
"Alex! Play us a song!"[Calli]
The coachman looked back and nodded, He took the reins with his left and played the recorder with his right. He's trying his best but to no avail, the music sounded off.
"Ok, that's enough."[Calli]
The coachman stopped playing and returned to its work
"Any other questions?"[Calli]
"Yes, a lot of em."[Edgelord]
I asked a lot of questions regarding the skeletons in order to understand how they work. She never gave me actual explanations but only showing me the limits of her gift and their capabilities. 2 days passed by quickly and I was planning to shift my target of questioning towards Miko. However, before noon. While I was looking out at the scenery of the woods, I caught a glimpse of a shadow on the ground seemingly projected from the top of the wagon. The shadow was seated, had the shape of a person and there are 2 protruding horns on its head. But the shadows cast by the leaves are overlapping with each other making me lose sight of it. I stood up and tried to peek at the top of the wagon.
"What's wrong Edge?" [ELITE Miko]
I couldn't see anything from my angle, I was hoping to at least see the horns projected in the shadow.
"Is there something above?"[ELITE Miko]
Miko stood up and tried to look from my angle.
"There was something with horns sitting on the wagon, I saw its shadow."[Edge]
"I didn't sense anything, you might have been mistaken haha. " [ELITE Miko]
At that moment a high-pitched voice rang out from Calli's direction.
"Bakatare-ga!! what you saw aren't horns. It's my ears! " [-]
We turn around to see Calli holding a rabbit by the ears extending her hands outwards excitedly.
"ITS ME PEKORA!! HA↘HA↗HA↘HA↗HA↘!" [Pekora]
"OMAE!!!" [ELITE Miko]
Miko reacted immediately as if she knew her, it's my first time seeing a beast folk so I observed the rabbit carefully. She's just a little taller than me, has white blue hair braided into a twin tail and 1 carrot braided into each twin tail. She has a chestnut face, blue small eyebrows, a bright smile, and long white ears. She wore a white blue dress with black undergarment along with a fluffy scarf with the face of a rabbit etched on it.
"WHY THE HELL ARE YOU HERE?" [ELITE Miko]
"I heard rumors of a runaway demon lord after an important guest had paid their visit peko." [Pekora]
MIko face hardened.
"Ugh, you didn't tell A-chan did you." [ELITE Miko]
"Before that, can you please put me down. I'll behave, so please put me down please peko."[Pekora]
Pekora pleaded with Calli to let her down first before continuing her conversation with Miko.
"Fine, but if you try to pull something funny I'll make sure you can't do it again."[Calli]
"Okay peko~, I will keep that in mind."[Pekora]
She smiled cheerfully unlike the pleading regretful rabbit she was earlier. She doesn't seem to be afraid of Calli, maybe she could compare to her in ability, or its just her personality? Anyway, they were bickering non-stop whenever they had the chance. I couldn't find a way to wiggle into their conversation. 5 days passed by quickly and I managed to widen my vocabulary. Pekora brought her own supplies and managed to show me something she called pocket dimension. Basically, she could store, and take objects out of thin air. Upon further questioning, it happens that everyone else on the wagon could do it. My distrust towards Miko and Calli deepened when I thought they could be limiting my information on them.
Finally, today we will pass the borders of Yamato.
"Do we need to prepare anything? "[Edge]
"Usually just some identification papers would be necessary for me." [ELITE Miko]
"I can just sneak past it peko." [Pekora]
Calli calmly responded to reassure us.
"I sent a letter to them beforehand, we should be able to just pass through. So, just stay calm and relax." [Calli].
In the afternoon we exited the forest and saw the tall walls of the border. Numerous carts and wagons were lining up towards the entrance.
"This might take a while." [Calli]
"I'm bored peko, Miko-sempai~~."[Pekora]
Suddenly, the guards seemed to have noticed our coachman. The other wagons were moved aside and the guards hurriedly sent us on our way into Yamato borders. Along the way I see a field of flowers stretching to no ends. However, the next destination would be a hotspot for monsters.
