Chapter 29:The Great Reveal
I woke up and ate breakfast with Mikochi, she still seems a little down, despite her efforts to act normally. I set off towards the gate of the military base after I'm done to see Noel waiting for me outside.
"You've waited for long?" [Edge]
She smiled at me gently upon seeing me and responded to my call
"Not at all, I just arrived here about 10 minutes ago." [Noel]
"You're early, have you eaten?"[Edge]
Noel nods her head and spoke excitedly
"I had Gyudon for breakfast, it tasted heavenly. The fluffy sticky rice! the juicy beef strips and lastly the egg yolk that adds in the flavour of the rice..." [Noel]
Noel licked her lips reminiscent of the breakfast she had. I wonder if she's another glutton, but I have yet another concern.
"Are you sure your food hasn't been laced with the aforementioned mana?" [Edge]
Noel snapped back to reality and looked at me with a smiley face.
"About that,,, You'll know when I take you to Shion later, she said she needs your help." [Noel]
"The great mage Shion?" [Edge]
The great mage Shion is the top mage at the demon academy and the best mage in Clover. Based on the records in the vault she acts like a child but she is older and wiser than she looks. She must have some idea of how to get out of this situation.
"Sure, I'll help out."[Edge]
There's no harm in learning more in detail of how to use Calli's ability and how the culprit's ability works.
"Really? That's great! thanks to you she's going to treat me to Gyudon for dinner Woohoo!!" [Noel]
Noel celebrated by jumping and putting her hands high up in the air. She's a bundle of energy I thought.
"Let's get going before it gets dark out there."[Edge]
"Alrighty then! Let me lead the way."[Noel]
We started walking in the direction of Pekoland's military base. We arrived in no longer than 15 minutes. It was a small base compared to Miko and Kanata's base. But nobody is in front of the gates and the gates are tightly shut. There is only a panel that is stuck out from the ground next to the gate.
Noel pulled out the pass she received and placed it on top of the panel. With a buzzing sound, a door opened in the gate.
*Bzzzt*
"Let's get going then shall we?" [Noel]
We entered the base but the view was stunning, grassy plains with a sea of flowers. And the cool breeze filled with the fresh smell of flowers entered my nose. The scenery itself reminded me of Yamato's borders but the difference is that there are countless nousagi jumping around in the plains. I fell into a trance as I walked down the path with Noel while a few nousagis, white cute furry rabbits with long ears that are pinching a carrot in each of their ears followed behind us.
"Ara, look how cute they are."[Noel]
"I wouldn't go near them if I were you." [Edge]
"Eh? Why, just look how squishy and cutesy they look"[Noel]
Before we reach we find countless armoured vehicles that have huge barrels mounted on top of them passing by. I never saw these in the vault's archives, I wonder if it's some kind of weapon. But then it occurred to me it looked like a gun barrel! A bullet at this size will even pierce a hole in a tree I presume. From the distance, there is a grey building in the midst of a few big warehouses made out of light metal.
"We're here"[Noel]
Rather than a tent, it's a huge grey building made out of bricks. Did they build this in a span of a month? Pekoland should be more interesting than this if this is just the military base. Noel went ahead and looked at the pillars outside the building, and she found a button then pressed it.
*Ding Dong*
We waited outside for some while and I began asking her some questions.
"So how long has this base been here?"[Edge]
"Just a month"[Noel]
"How does all of this make sense? The land here is different, the plants and even this building, how could this be built in a span of a month !?" [Edge]
"Don't ask me, I was only told the sufficient information to enter here without causing trouble"[Noel]
Noel spoke with a smile but seems to be troubled as well so I figured that she doesn't know the answer to my question.
The door opened gently and a woman with purple hair that glitters like starlight peeks out of the door. Suddenly the nousagi's that have been following us rose up from the ground, revealing their muscular legs, body and their thick arms. Noel screamed in terror and I was simply stunned.
"So that was really just their heads..." [Edge]
The 3 of them wore military uniforms and stood in unison.
"All clear ma'am!" [Nousagis]
Moona opened the door completely revealing her whole body. She tied her hair back and wore a black top and a golden necklace.
"Come in." [Moona]
"Noel, snap out of it!" [Edge]
"IYAAAAAAAAA!!! WHY!! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL MEEE !!?"[Noel]
Noel was too frightened by their sudden transformation. It seems people these days had forgotten the frightfulness of them on the battlefield. I can't blame her for not knowing it since she's only 18 and their records are probably not complete.
We entered Moona's house and saw a fancy aquarium, there are colourful tropical fishes swimming in it. It's the first time I've ever seen a fish so I was entranced by the beauty of it. We were asked to sit on the white sofa in the living room with Moona opposite of us right in front of the aquarium. Noel made a light bow and spoke
"It's an honour to meet you Miss Moona Hoshinova." [Noel]
"Pleasure to meet you as well Miss Noel, and you must be the Reaper's kid Edgelord " [Moona]
"Nice to meet you Moona, Pekora mentions a lot about you." [Edge]
"I'm pleased to know that even when she ran off she did think of me" [Moona]
There is some killing intent leaking from Moona after her statement. Yabe, did I mention something I shouldn't?
"Sorry, just reminiscing some happy memories, I'm sorry if I frightened you."[Moona]
"No not at all..."[Noel, Edge]
We began asking similar questions to Moona but just like Kanata she doesn't seem like the culprit and I identified her mana signatures using special means. As we are leaving, Moona suddenly dropped a bomb on us.
"Seeing that the two of you are so desperate, I can help you by telling you who the culprit is." [Moona]
Noel sprung into action and asked her immediately
"That would be very helpful, please tell us who it is!" [Noel]
"That would be... inappropriate for you to know, how about I tell Edge instead and then he could decide whether to tell you based on his discretion." [Moona]
Noel looks at me while nodding her head enthusiastically.
"Ok, go ahead and tell me then." [Edge]
Moona came near to my ear and whispered to me gently.
"The culprit is ______________."
