Chapter 28: Shirogane Noel
In light of the recent events, the rations and supplies the armies took from King Pufflegum are discontinued. All of the parties now had to use their own supplies or buy from Miko who has a portal to ship in supplies from Sike Mura directly. Due to this Miko had gained a great deal of revenue but she feels more and more uneasy as the reality of the war sets in.
2 days later, a report came in about King Pufflegum came along with a female knight into Miko's camp. A while later, the man entered Miko's tent, took a good look at me and clicked his tongue then looked at Miko before stating his business.
"I wish to discuss something in private with the demon lord" [Pufflegum]
Judging from his attire and the crown he's wearing I believe he's King Pufflegum. I decided that I should leave the scene because I am an outsider of this conflict.
"I should leave.I shall meet you later for lunch Maou-sama." [Edge]
I bowed respectfully as befitting her stature unlike how we interact usually in front of the king
"Thank you, see you later Edge." [Miko]
The bait has been cast, now I should start with finding out any irregular movements from the other 5 factions. I exited the tent while looking back at the king as my hand closed in the hilt of my sword but I bumped into a pole? I hit something rock solid and fell down on the floor.
"Ouch !!" [Edge]
"Ara ara, you should watch where you're going little boy."[Noel]
I was greeted by a woman knight by surprise. Judging from her attire, her silver hair, steel like body, and lastly those huge badonkers. She must be Noel Shirogane, the Knight Captain of the Lu-knights.
I stood up and almost matched her height. I began apologizing bashfully.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going"[Edge]
"Ara, where are you heading boy? just give me the word and I can take you there." [Noel]
Noel flashed out 3 entry passes for each camp currently situated in Candy Kingdom. Seeing this opportunity I decided to take on her word.
"I would like to do some investigations regarding the contaminated mana, I think maybe you could assist me on it?"[Noel]
I guess Miko told them about me and Calli to make her words more convincing, Since I am doing investigations of my own I can't enter camps of other factions without permission. It may be a trap but I'm willing to work with her to test her strength as well.
"Gladly, so where should we start?"[Edge]
"Let's start with your name, My name is Shirogane Noel, you may call me Noel" [Noel]
"I'm Edgelord, just call me Edge will suffice" [Edge]
We first went to the one with the biggest suspicion. The military base of Kanata, representative of the holy land of god. And there is a mess going on in the camp currently. Apparently, they are infighting.
"Stop biting me you uncivilized mutt!!!"[Holy Knight A]
" Damenashut up you MOTHERFUCKER, you asked for this!" [Chinpira A]
In the midst of this conflict, we spotted the gorilla pulling them away from each other to stop the fight.
In a matter of minutes, the holy knights were thrown to the right side of the camp and the Dragon Newts were thrown to the left side of the camp. Kanata made a power pose in the middle of the grounds.
"Are we done?" [Kanata]
"Yes thank you very much for your assistance emissary" [Holy Knight C]
"We did nothing wrong representative, it was them!" [Chinpira B]
"ENOUGH!!" [Kanata]
Both sides finally shut up and listen to what she has to say next.
"Power is power, you can fight amongst yourself to prove your might, but it is useless as long as I am here. Think! People, think! What's the point of fighting amongst yourselves when the top can only be me as long as I'm here?" [Kanata]
Both sides shared an awkward silence and the dragon newts blushed in shame.
Now that there done the dragon newts finally noticed us.
"WHOO...!! WHO LET HER IN?!! WHO'S ON GUARD DUTY!!!" [Chinpira Captain]
"It was one of ours, how do you like your surprise Dragon?" [Holy Knight Captain]
The dragon newts were shaking in fear but their eyes filled with animosity toward the female knight next to me.
"Don't be afraid, I don't bite you know teehee."[Noel]
Noel teased the dragon newts in the face of their hostility. But I know that reaction is well deserved for that accomplishment in her past. I wonder just how strong she is now and how close can I match up to her in my current strength.
"I know why you're here, let's do this in the tent. Everyone else disperse!" [Kanata]
The others returned to their own task and we went into Kanata's tent to discuss the matter. Kanata sat down at her table and with a solemn expression, she spoke in a serious tone.
"Before we start, I just want you both to know that It's not me..." [Kanata]
Both my and Noel's suspicion toward her intensified.
"Yeah right..."[Edge]
Kanata changed the topic all of the sudden after looking all over me.
"You must be Death's Apostle, Edgelord 360noscope, Maou-sama talked about you on many occasions."[Kanata]
Death's Apostle? Is that what all of them called me? But I'm not an apostle or is there a religion centered around Calli? But then what am I to Calli? Shaking away these unnecessary thoughts I decided to flat out reject their idea that I'm some sort of apostle.
"She's just my guardian and nothing else so I would prefer if you were to stop calling me that."[Edge]
"So technically you're her child!!?"[Noel]
Noel seems shocked by my statement.
"Well in a way I do call her Dad but that isn't important right now, can we just carry on with the investigation already?"[Edge]
Noel realizing we have been sidetracked returned to her usual composure and began asking questions to Kanata. From her point of view, she became the representative not by choice because of the split in the power of the Holy Land of God and the Asacoco district. Not satisfied, I asked her the final question.
"Why did you support this war?"[Edge]
Kanata looked into my eyes and spoke determinedly
"There are people that I need to protect at all costs and in order to do that I need to crush that impending threat. Even though we're on different sides I believe she'll reach the same decision as well" [Kanata]
"Even Maou-sama herself agreed to it because she too has people she wants to protect, it's just that to sacrifice one to save many is a difficult choice for her and she might never be able to get over it.." [Kanata]
We exited the tent with heavy footsteps, Noel seems to be affected by what Kanata said as well. Maybe she too doesn't want this war to happen. She slapped her cheeks all of the sudden making a sharp ear-deafening sound throughout the camp. I was on guard but I didn't expect it to be this loud.
*PING*
"What the hell are you doing!" [Edge]
"Ara, sorry my bad. That must've been loud, let's get going shall we?" [Noel]
She returned to her usual cheerfulness but my ears are still hurting. I missed my lunch with Miko and promised Noel to help with her investigation tomorrow. I look forward to visiting Pekoland's base.
