110. Scary

The next day, Li Zhilan reached the Cafe where she had forgotten Lucus's book at exactly three o'clock, not a second less, not a second more.

She dialed the number from which they received the call yesterday to figure out exactly who was the man who didn't return the book obediently. She was going to make him some troubles.

''Hello, who is this?'' The same think voice answered from the other end.

''Where is the book?'' Li Zhilan said while surveying the Cafe to find that person and she did. He had his back towards her but from his build and getup, he seemed to be around thirty-five and he ought to know a bit more about fashion.

''You are not-"

''Ayo... my grandson. How could you leave such a poor old soul like me to do all those work at home. If it wasjust washing dishes I won't have complained because I now have to rely on you after taking care of you for twenty years but this old body of mine can no longer do the digging of our vegetable garden. If I could, I won't have complained but sob sob...''

While the person was on the phone, a granny suddenly latched herself onto him.

''Aunty what are you saying? You got the wr-" The person was scared and flustered that even his face was contorted.

''Aiyo... How can my son be so shameless? He actually says that he doesn't know me. I have raised such an ungrateful brat for tens of years. Aiyo...''

Hearing those words, the people around also started adding their own.

''Haize... Such an ungrateful brat. He doesn't even care to recognize his mother.''

''If my son turns out like this, I'd rather not give birth.''

''What a pitiful old lady.''

''Tsk tsk... such a heartless person.''

''He not only asked his old mother to do hard labor but is also refusing to recognize her. Tsk... this old lady is really unlucky to have a son like him.''

''I bet she is regretting giving birth to him afterall with all those money spent on raising him, she could have just lived a much better life right now.''

The man being termed 'heartless' and 'unfaithful' didn't even know how to react. He never knew that he had a mother who was suffering like this. The mother he knew should currently be sitting on the sofa and enjoying a show on TV or might have even gone to attend her little tea party with her old friends.

Since when did his mother start working, forget about working, she doesn't even knit like those lovable old ones.

''Aunt-"

"You still dare to call me aunty? You really don't want to take care of me. I don't need much I swear. Just give me a place to sleep and a meal once a day. That's all, I swear. I won't never trouble you.''

''Haize... Such a pitiful old lady. Her son doesn't even want to give her a place to stay.''

''She didn't even ask for three meals a day. This unfaithful son of hers doesn't even want to give her one meal a day.''

While everyone was busy condemning the said unfaithful son, the 'pitiful' old lady was smirking under the cover of her act.

Finally when she had enough, she whispered for only her 'son' to hear.

''The book.''

Once the man heard those words, he understood what was happening. This old lady was the granny of his praised writer.

''Mom... Stop acting. See you are making me seem bad again. Come let's go to the room I booked for us.'' The man could not wait to get out of the place where every eyes were judging. Since when was he so nervous of those stares. He should be used to them by now. He had directed so many movies and had scolded many actors for their actings but now, when he himself was made to act in an impromptu scene, he almost lost his mind. Guess he has to tone down his anger on set. Acting is really not a child's play.

While the person was setting his thoughts straight, the surrounding people also dispersed with happy smiles.

''Ah... So it was all an act.''

''What a beautiful relationship between mother and son.''

That wasn't what you said before!

''I wish I also have a son like him. See, he is even taking care of what his mom likes to do. If it was some other child, they would have already gotten angry.''

Atleast have some conscience. You were scolding me just a moment ago.

...

Inside the private room.

''Son, how did you like the play?'' Li Zhilan turned back only to be stunned beyond words.

''Director Yang?''

''You only just recognized me?''

''Um... I only saw your face right now hehe...''

Director Yang was flabbergasted. This old lady had roasted him so bad without even know him.

Forget knowing him, she didn't even see his face properly before staging that scene with him. That's scary. Especially how she could maneuver the thoughts of the crowd in her favor.

''Then why...'' Why did you target me like that? Though Director Yang left the second part unsaid, Li Zhilan, with that quick and intelligent brain of hers understood it clearly.

''Why did you hang up on me. Did you think I would come meet you with a bright smile on my face after being hung up on?''

If given an option, he would rather fight with ten bulky men then her. This old lady was just too scary. Just because of hanging up a call on her, she nearly ruined his career. And he had hung up that call so that he could meet with them the next day. Otherwise, what if they tricked their way? But he couldn't say any of what he thought because this old lady out here got that charisma that could make anyone want to beleive and trust her even when they know that she is wrong.
