The clouds were high in the sky as a cool breeze could be felt in the air, the only way to describe it was utterly peaceful. At least that's what it felt like as I looked upwards at the sky while the wound I had acquired from earlier was finally numb. I laid on the ground while the hole where my stomach once was leaked out ounces of blood at a time.
"So this is how it ends, huh?"
I asked this to myself since no one was left to talk to, I was all by myself on the lonesome battleground. I couldn't help but start to smile a little, because even though I was going to die this was the most peaceful I've felt ever since the war started.
"Well."
I looked up at the sky as I watched a some type of bird fly past me and over the horizon, through the tall trees that were surrounding my position.
"There are worse places to die I guess and I've lived decently up until this point, I have no complaints."
I turned my head slightly to the right as I looked around at all my fallen comrades, they were either younger or older than I was by a few years, some barely of age. To be perfectly honest I never really talked to any of them unless it was taking or giving orders, I always thought it wouldn't be worth the pain when they died.
I start to feel my heartbeat become slower and I knew what this meant, the one inevitability that no one escapes, death.
"Is this what dying feels like?"
I laugh a little but cough up some blood in the process.
"Well I guess that answers my question, doesn't it?"
I lean my head back on the cold battle torn ground as I began to feel myself losing consciousness, slowly starting to drift off into whatever lies off in the great beyond. Am I scared? I can't really say, I've always believed that there was something waiting for me when I died but now that it's actually happening I can't help but be nervous.
I sigh.
"Well no matter what waits for me I'll be ready, whether it be Heaven or Hell. Whether it be Salvation or Damnation, I'm ready to punch my ticket."
I lay my head back for the final time as I feel myself lose consciousness and as I close my eyes for the last time I thought about everyone in my life who was important to me.
"Goodbye."
I truly felt at peace in this moment and I finally closed my eyes so I could be at rest, once and for all. Not even a moment later I felt my heart stop and everything ceased, it was as if everything around me had just stopped.
There it was, I finally died, but for some reason I didn't feel dead or whatever it was supposed to feel like. My eyes were still shut but nothing else, though for some reason I felt different.
"What the hell is going on?"
I slowly but surely opened my eyes and at first I couldn't see anything though after a moment my eyesight came back and I slowly raised up my body.
"Wait, what?"
I looked down at my torso and the hole that was there wasn't anymore, it was completely gone as if it had never happened in the first place.
"How the hell?"
This wasn't the only thing that had captured my eye however, after I stopped looking at my torso I looked at my immediate surrounding area. Safe to say it was way different than what I had expected to see after I died, there wasn't hellfire or pearly gates, at least none that I could see. What I did see however was that I was in the forest but these trees looked weird, they had purple leaves instead of green and weirdly shaped trees.
"So am I dead or alive? I'm not really clear at this particular moment."
I was about to continue asking myself these questions until I heard a rustle come from the top of one of the many trees that were surrounding me. I looked up for a moment but nothing happened until I saw an arrow come piercing out of the leaves so I quickly rolled to the left.
"What the shit?"
More arrows started to fly out and just as quickly as I rolled away, I got up and ran behind the nearest tree. I noticed that I was still wearing the clothes I had on before I had died so I reached into my pocket and pulled out a dagger.
"Damn it, looks like I'm dying a second time."
I swear I have the worst luck out of anybody, I just died before I got here and now I'm going to die again. Well just my luck I guess, though I can at least give whoever is trying to kill me hell before I go.
"Alright, just have to be logical about this."
I looked at the tree I was standing behind and saw that it looked easy to climb so I thought that it'd be the best way to get an advantage on these assholes. Then again arrows are flying everywhere so I'm not sure if I'd make it but I don't think the person or thing that was shooting has found me yet, otherwise I'd probably be full of arrows.
"Fuck it, might as well try."
After saying this I quickly climbed up the tree I was under and from there, across the way to the other branch, I saw the tip of an arrow that glistened in the sunlight. This meant one of two things, either it's a trap or I just found the asshole who's been shooting at me.
"I don't think they've seen me yet, better catch them off guard."
I quietly start moving from tree branch to tree branch, avoiding the weak limbs so I didn't fall and possibly break something important. After a few moments I was finally behind the person who was shooting arrows at me and in one quick succession I grab them then put my knife to their neck.
"Who the hell are you and why are you shooting arrows at me?"
What came next I didn't expect as my hand was grabbed and with an extreme amount of force I was thrown over as I plummeted to the ground, landing on my back. A second later someone was standing over me, they had pale skin, pointy ears, green hair, and breasts?
"Holy shit, a girl?"
