Out of character

Chapter 10

I had missed the rest of the term.

I stared at my report astonished that I still had maintained a solid B average. My perfect score had declined a little so to say the least but the fact that I still had a report even after missing school for the rest of the month I might call myself a genius.

“How in the world…”Amy stared in shock at the bright screen of the computer.

We were currently in the guest room of this humble household... oh who am I kidding it is a freaking mansion interiorly designed with dark wood to give off a tree house vibe. It did suit the fact that it was situated near one of the natural forests of the country.

A bit dangerous if you ask me but I guess being the head of the police force has its perks.

“I still can’t believe it!” Amy tugged at her hair in disbelief. We were seated cross-legged opposite each other on the smooth white tiles of the floor. She was wearing a big plain T shirt and her white shorts giving a good look of her long toned legs.

“How is it possible that I have been at school all this time and I still can’t have this good of a grade!” She sighed in frustration, ‘you must be some sort of alien!”

I broke out in laughter. She stared at me placing the laptop a side and glaring at me with a playful sneer.

“don’t you laugh at me!” she slapped my arm and I did my best calming down the best I could but the convinced look on her face that I was an alien seriously made it a difficult time.

“So how is it going with you and Luke?” I asked changing the topic to cool down my laughter.

It had been a week since the funeral and so far I have been very comfortable living at this mansion. Of course I have not crossed paths with Felix every time I do he is with Jordan and Blake. They are a fun duo to talk to and watch movies with but every time Felix is around the mood grows awkward and I can’t help but squirm underneath his gaze. I have been civil with the guy to say the least and I am proud of myself for that. Way to crystal!!!

“Well… it’s been...” she dragged biting her lip to bit by her usual dreamy sigh every time I bring Luke into the conversation.

Amy has been with me this whole week. She attended the burial but her mum rushed her out before she could talk to me so we have been having sleep overs since then. The best part is none of the owners seem to mind. I sure hope these walls are sound proof because we giggle a lot.

“Very great. We haven’t gone out yet but he has been great...” the smile grew wider with each word she said about Luke.

“What’s he up to now? I haven’t seen him for a while.” I asked.

Not until I asked did I realize that I actually missed that conniving beast. He always did make my day.

“Well… he thinks you are mad at him,” she told me and shrugged.

“Mad at him? What would I be mad at him?” I smiled in confusion, ‘I haven’t talked to him since the whole assassination-of-a-poor-girl attempt on me ordeal.”

“Well remember how he wanted to go out with me that day and then I offered you to join us but you said no because of how he looked at you?” I nodded letting her get to the point.

“Well he thinks if he didn’t look at you that way. You would have said yes then stayed till lunch actually ended and you wouldn’t have got stabbed in the first place.” She explained and shrugged, “I tried telling him to stopped beating himself about it but he refused to listen. He thought it would be best to stay away from you.”

My heart stopped at the last sentence she uttered. He wanted to leave me too. I have lost my parents I wasn’t gonna allow the closest thing to a brother to leave me too.

“Can I borrow your phone?” I asked her sternly.

It wasn’t heard finding Luke’s number. Amy had it saved under ‘cute asshole’. I smiled as I read the name.

He answered almost a second after I dialled the number, “It’s about time you called I thought I would have to sneak into your room again and show how much I know you want me.”

I sure didn’t expect that.

I cleared my throat awkwardly staring at now a blushing Amy.

“Sorry to bust your little horn dog. It’s Crystal,” I told him and I heard him cuss underneath his breath before clearing his throat. There was a lot of shuffling on the other side followed by a loud thud and the clattering of the phone on the floor.

I wish I was there to get visual experience.

“Hey... crystal how ya doing, girl?” he sounded more than chirpy and a tad bit embarrassed. I could imagine him running hands threw his hair in embarrassment.

“I am doing great actually but why haven’t you come to see me?” I whined, “I mean it’s not like we have been best friends since middle school and like siblings since the day I decided to keep your secret,” I huffed, “I know I am not the nicest person in the world and I am a little bit feisty but I miss you Lulu,”

“I miss hanging out with you and the fact that you don’t want to see me really hurts, you know.” I told him.

I heard him sigh on the end, “it’s not your fault, you know. It’s probably mine since I may have annoyed some big mafia guy for them to be out to get me this bad.”

I shrugged my shoulders and handed the phone back to Amy.

“Help me tell him I really miss him and that I hope he is doing alright.” I gave her a tight lipped smile and walked out of the room.

“I am gonna go over to the kitchen to get some water.” I waved and closed the door to go over to the kitchen.

Once I reached the kitchen I opened the fridge and bent over to grab the glass jar filled with water.

“Crystal?”

His deep voice maneuvered through my entire body sending shivers down my spine. I was so startled my head snapped up almost immediately crashing on the sharp edge of the fridge sending pain all over my scalp.

Civil alright.

“Hi Felix,” I said in an attempt to act subtle, “I didn’t see you there.” I shrugged casually and closed the fridge door completely forgetting why I was here in the first place.

What the hell is wrong with me?

“I can see that.” He growled taking steps toward me while I took steps back eventually trapping me at the counter.

His blue eyes darkened as they stared at me and I winced back when I heard another deep growl echo from his throat.

Cold maybe?

His hand reached over to my forehead and brushed my blond hair tracing my hairline so delicately I almost shivered under his touch.

What on earth is going on?

He leaned so close to me that his hot breath fanned my face never once letting our gaze break. I gulped but unlike my mind that was totally going bonkers at this proximity my body ached for his touch.

My eyes dropped to his juicy lips and I closed my eyes immediately blocking any thoughts that were flashing in my mind at the moment.

My eyes opened when a cold sensation hit my forehead. I looked up to see him with a cotton ball in his hand and a gauze in the other working on a bruise I hadn’t notice was on my forehead.

He carefully cleaned the wound his eyes concentrating deeply while his muscles flexed wonders in my eyes. He was wearing a dark blue tank top that hugged his muscles perfectly and outlined his broad chest with detail.

I stood there with the counter supporting my back and shamelessly ogled the man currently giving me aid.

What he did next did more than have my jaw dropping a mile from my mouth.

“Crystal?” he called out snapping me out of my daze. Great I guess he caught me checking him out. I sure hope I don’t have any drool on me.

“Do you mind if I take you somewhere?” he asked his voice soft a delicate like he was scared almost worried.

I had a mental whiplash.

What happened to all the growling, the menacing glares he sent my way. The rude remarks and most of all the silent treatment he always gave me? What happened to that hard rock aura he gave off when I was around? I thought he hated me!!

Disliked to say the least.

May be he just wants to show me something? A voice argued at the back of my head.

I looked over to see him waiting in anticipation staring at me in longing.

Shoot he is waiting for my answer.

“Sure... umm... why not?” I shrugged trying to act nonchalant when in reality I am not sure what I got myself here.

I followed him out the door discreetly enjoying the view of his back muscles as the flexed with each movement. What was he a descendant of a Greek god?
