"It's not conclusive, we still need to wait for the DNA test, but it's better to be careful, though it's not well known, the silent pollen is not just a rapist, he killed someone before."
"I understand. Thank you, Detective."
Even after the call ended her father was still solemn, he somehow expected it, but he was still surprised that his daughter's speculations were turning into reality.
--------------
Looking at her possessed brother, Lanru shook her head and let him enjoy his moment.
She gave her mother gifts she prepared for her, some health and beauty products. Though Mayin wasn't comfortable, she still felt warm in her heart that her daughter thought of her.
Lanru's phone rang, interrupting them. She took the call outside the room since it was her stepmom, she wasn't at ease talking in front of her mother, it was like she was betraying her for some reason with her guilt from the past, she even wished her stepmom was her real mother. Mayin was worried seeing her daughter's reaction, so she followed after her.
Lanru answered the call and didn't notice her mother, "Hello, auntie.. Sorry, auntie, I didn't tell you, I'll stay with mom, today.. Ah, school, I won't go for a few days, you know the headache, I'll take this chance to rest a bit.. Okay, take care auntie, and good night."
Even by only listening to Lanru's side of the conversation, Mayin could guess her relationship with her stepmom was good. It was a happy thing. She hoped the stepmom wouldn't mistreat her daughter, but somehow her heart tightened, it was like her premonition was coming true, her daughter was slowly drifting apart from her.
When Lanru came back Mayin was avoiding looking at her and surprisingly even Bolin was acting weird. She didn't have a clue what was happening with him but she could guess her mother's thoughts. She came over to Mayin and hugged her tightly, "I love you; mom," it was healing for her as well, she really needed this hug.
Mayin felt ashamed that she was acting this immature at this time, she shook off her stupid fears and hugged her daughter back.
With her family out of the way, she had the peace of mind to think, how was she going to deal with this situation. But could see her brother approaching her awkwardly, 'just what's up with him.'
When Meili called her before, her brother's attention was taken for a moment. He wanted to see which phone his sister bought for herself, it must be even better, but when she took it out, it was still her old smartphone. He was shocked, he didn't think she would give him a good smartphone even before herself. He was ashamed of how excited that he even forgot to thank her.
Bolin handed her the phone, she could see his reluctance, it must be the hardest decision he made in his life, she almost laughed. She patiently waited for him to explain what's happening.
Bolin steeled his heart and pushed the smartphone in her hand, "take it, sister, give me just your old phone."
Finally connecting the dots, she chuckled pushing it back to him, "dream on, I won't give you the phone my mother bought me even for a hundred of this one," she wasn't joking, and she didn't play games, so she didn't need a powerful phone. She might have to change it later but not while it was more than enough for her.
Her brother's resolve wore off soon, he let out a deep breath and he hugged the phone back, "are you sure."
She was sure he didn't mean it, and could only smile at him. He disappeared happily with the smartphone before she changed her mind.
Lanru was ready to resume her thinking, but her head hurt, and she was really tired. The day was really taxing for her. She decided to leave it for the morning and went to sleep. Both she and her mother took a bed, while her brother preferred the sofa in the living area, he was gonna have a long night.
The next day, she wakes up early. She was taking a shower and thinking.
She was still shaken that it was Mr. Gubi, she thought he was the last close person she had after her family died, he even came to visit her in prison. What did he want? Suddenly an idea dawned on her. Could it be him, the one behind her tragic end? Could it be he wanted to confess everything to her, she felt strange no one talked to her, could it really be it.
It did make a lot of sense, he was the only one who visited her. He had access to information, had the brains, and the ruthlessness to pull such a plot. The only problem was she would never be sure. Even he himself won't know. It was something that would happen in the future.
Had she known this, she would have met him when he came to visit. She was sure he wouldn't talk about anything related to his identity as the silent pollen because even though she was in prison, she could still expose him. Police were hungry for any lead. It would be a huge relief if he was the one behind her tragic past and confessed to just that.
She brushed it off, for now, the most important thing is to deal with the urgent threat. With his identity revealed, It was only a matter of time before he was caught unless he was able to escape the country, so revenge was reasonable to expect, another crime won't matter to him anymore. Throwing more garbage in a dump won't make it anymore vile.
Add to it, there was really a good chance he would be obsessed with her, she wasn't a psychologist, but she knew people in general and men even more like to win, especially criminals like him. She may be the only one who made him fail twice, maybe the second but the other one is dead. It was obvious from how he challenged the police leaving his DNA everywhere carelessly. They don't have to prove he was the one, they just have to find him, but they failed for 15 years in the past, and she did just that.
She shook her head, as long as the police didn't alarm him and let him know he was exposed, he wouldn't go after her, at least not so soon. That would only expose him, but she can't be too careless, she's gonna assume the worst.
There was school, the house... and her shopping venture with her stepmom. The school and shopping malls were crowded places, and she moved in the car. It didn't seem feasible to target her there. It was more likely he would target her at home, even with the security tightening, it was a place he knew very well. And he would just need to wait enough time, the security would eventually turn back to normal. She nodded her head, he would think it's an unexpected move to play.
If he is gonna come for her, she needs to be prepared. It would be good if he came, she can trap him if he came, but if he goes into hiding, her life would be restless. At least her past threats should be 10 years later, but he was a looming threat.
'I have to catch him personally.'
It was indeed scary, men are stronger than women physically in general. sports segregation wasn't just for fun. The margin isn't that great, though, with the tools available nowadays, a woman can overcome that advantage depending on the situation. Besides, men have a critical weakness, between their legs, and she didn't even need to fight him, just keep him busy until the security arrive.
She left the bathroom and checked the time, it was almost 8. Mayin woke up to her noises, and panicked when she looked at the time. She fumbled to put on her clothes, but Lanru stopped her. With Lanru encouragement she was already ready to quit her job when push came to shove, so she calmed down. They were just a family of two now, she can handle it with a lower job.
Lanru called the room service for in-room breakfast. Her mother called the work and informed them she was going to be late. While Lanru left to meet with the bodyguard.
She opened his profile, his name, Hu Bang, she felt she heard it somewhere, she couldn't remember but she felt good about him. He was 34, worked 4 years as a police officer, before being promoted to a detective, he worked for 4 more years before he quit his job. He started a career as a free agent.
Bodyguards get 130 yuan a day on average. It increases with short hiring periods and high quality and decreases vice versa. His pay rate per day was 150. He was new to the job so his rate wasn't high, but it wasn't cheap either with his prior experience.
Looking up like usual to check the newcomer, a tall man with wide shoulders was looking around when his black eyes stopped on her, his deep stare made many curious people look away. He walked toward her as he saw the recognition in her eyes. That impressed her, it looks like he's sharp. Getting close, his simple clothes and short haircut didn't take from his handsome stubbled face. He didn't come in those glaring black suits. It looks like he received an introduction about the job.
She stood up and reached out her hand, "hello Mr. Bang, I was waiting for you,"
His eyes flashed, he expected it, but now that he confirmed she was his employer, he was still surprised. Was she really the one who found out about the silent pollen? He was told she's young, but she was younger than he expected. He was in the team handling the case himself, but they didn't even catch a glimpse of his shadow, but now, Detective Park has high hopes they got him this time.
The talk went smoothly, she didn't have any problem with his price, and he didn't have any problem with her demands.
Before she took him to meet her mother, she looked at him seriously, "one more thing, I'm your employer, it's my own money you're getting, so I expect the same respect and cooperation any other employer would receive," she looked at his reaction before she added, "If we can't establish that, I won't be able to trust you with this job."
