In the mist of the light laid a frail child, adorned in scales of blue and gold. Though monster-like as it was, it eerily resembled humans greatly as well. Frozen in shock, Amphitrite stood there, watching the child nervously in case it would attack. But it merely lied there, shivering as it groaned in pain. She pitted the small creature, and decided to feed it someone of her sandwich. Remembering how viscous the monsters really were, she pulled her hand back, sure that it would've bitten her hand off. To her surprise, the child merely ate the sandwich, politer than any creature she had ever seen. She touched its long hair, and the child let her.
"Do you have a name?" Amphitrite whispered, carefully stroking her hair while she continued to feed it.
Though the small child did not respond, Amphitrite saw in its eyes that it meant no harm at all. She smiled to herself, marveling at the beauty of the creature.
"My lady? What are you doing there- oh god."
Amphitrite turned around, frozen in anxiety as Freya stared at the creature before her.
"Freya, I can explain. It's not doing any harm to me. It's completely harmless and-"
"Oh lord this can't be. No, this must be some kind of joke I-"
"Freya, it's ok. I'm not sure why this happened either, but it's not doing any harm at all. Just calm down first, and then we can talk about what to do next."
Freya, though clearly anxious and confused, had calmed down anyways, though it took her a few deep breaths to do so.
"Alright then. Okay, okay. Well, although it is very, very strange that you were able to befriend it at all, what worries me so much more is if someone would find out." Freya spat out, clearly still worried about what was going on.
Monsters are creatures of chaos, known to be born from darkness itself. To have the ability to befriend or tame one would not only brand yourself as a witch to the whole empire, but bring hatred to yourself from everybody here. Thousands of people's loved ones have died to these creature, including the emperor's daughter, so the mere sights of monsters sends people's blood running. If they were to find that one of their people were able to befriend a monster like that, being known as a "traitor" is the least of her problems.
But of course Amphitrite knew. She knew what would happen if she were to ever get caught, and that death would always be by her doorstep even if she had finished taking care of the creature. But the child was pitifully tugging at her dress, and as she stared into the sorrowful eyes of the child, Amphitrite just couldn't abandon it now.
Seeing the way Amphitrite looked at the creature, Freya had already knew what she was going to do, There was no stopping Amphitrite when she had this look in her eyes anyways. Freya smiled to herself, and knew that this would definitely give her a big headache.
"I can work this out Freya, don't worry. We can do this together, and it definitely work out. It always does!"
"Most of the time it's all thanks to me though, my lady." Freya teased, cleaning up the mess they had left befind. "But, if this creature were to ever cause you harm or if we are on the verge of exposure, I will always put you first"
"I know Freya, I know" Amphitrite brushed off, no excited to hear her maid's devotion for the nth time.
On the next day, before the sun had even rose, Amphitrite called in another one of her devoted maids of not her office, a young girl named Camellia. Though the poor girl almost died of shock at the first sight of the unusual child, she agreed to help out Amphitrite, though it took a lot of convincing and effort to do so. With shaken hands, Amphitrite held the child on her lap as the sun's light rained from her window, and prayed for the best.
