Fire

The time had arrived. Two guards stood and walked by Amphitrite's side as she trudged up the stairs to her execution show. The dirt and the old blood singed her bare feet as she climbed. They tied her to a wooden poll, her arms tied stretched out in a cross as if she was being crucified.

As if they were giving out divine punishment.

Whisper spread like fire and gossips filled people's ears. "God, how could she?" "Hasn't she seen what the terrible creatures have done to this country?" She could hear their whisper, their judging glares, their sighs of disappointments, but it doesn't bother her. These matters were pointless in front of death.

The emperor and empress sat on their throne of gold, looking down on everyone as if they were gods. In their perspective, maybe they were. They raised a single hand, and the crowd became silent.

"Dear citizens of Pheavore, listen to me! Today we are here to execute..."

The words felt blurry to her ears as she let the wind caress her hair. Amphitrite felt strangely calm about everything, almost maybe a little euphoric.

The speech ran for eternity. Soon, the sun had sunk into the horizon and the stars has rose above the sunset. The speech was soon to be over, and she spent her last moments staring at the stars as the executioner lit up the torches. The flames burned bold and beautiful, and danced with colors from red, orange, and blue.

"Therefore, I declare the death of Amphitrite van Blissia!" The emperor commanded, and on cue, the executioner threw the torches right onto the logs beneath her foot. The sparks had tickled Amphitrite's legs, and not even a millisecond later, they exploded in breathtaking flames, swallowing her whole.

How would you explain this moment in words? Could you even? It was truly indescribable. It was breath-taking, for the flames shone and burned so brightly and colorfully. But it was also horrifying, for the screams that accompanied the flames felt like death itself. The flames burned and consumed Amphitrite whole, until she reached the end of her life.

Amphitrite van Blissia, daughter of Duke Cassius, heir to the Blissia family, was dead.

Yet, this story shall continue. Not as Amphitrite van Blissia, but as something entirely else.
