Bitter Truth

For the rest of the remaining moments, nothing seemed to have happened, yet everything was happening so quick. Things were being decided, discussed, and action was happening. Right before Amphitrite's sense of reality began to return, her punishment was officially decided.

"For the act of demonic witchcraft and dark magic, she shall be burn alive."

The fear of death consumed her, basking her in the darkness of death.

So now, as her last hope of survival, she begged at the same father who left her.

"F-father, please! You have to believe me! I-I was only trying to save a poor child!"

As usual, he had simply ignored her. The same way he did for the past 16 years. He neglected the daughter he had created, his own flesh and blood.

Trial closed, and Amphitrite was soon dragged away.

The dungeon was extensive and cold. The faint hint of blood tickled her nose. Small screams echoed in the distance, sending shivers down her spine. Behind prison bars were bones of skeletons, laying there for weeks, months, or even years. As the guards pulled Amphitrite further into the dungeon, the feeling of death coldly embraced her.

The guards tossed her into the cell, locking her freedom with a turn of a key. Between bars, they handed her a dirty, blue rag that she could change into. Even the cheapest dress she had seen was higher quality than this. Reluctantly, Amphitrite changed into it and instantly felt gross. She took a quick whiff and almost barfed. Dear lord, when was the last time they washed this!?

Amphitrite sat there for hours, wondering about her death as she counted the seconds. After 3 hours, there was a visitor. Her maid, Camillia, and the crown prince, Adonis. After Amphitrite had debuted into high society, her popularity had increased significantly. Her businesses on clothing and trading with other countries always went well. As a result, she managed to get in touch with other nobles and get their support. Soon, her father decided to send her off to the crown prince, where she would soon become Empress. So standing there was her former-fiance-to-be and her maid. Why they were together, she had no idea.

Right after Camillia took a look at Amphitrite, she started sobbing and hugging Adonis as he wrapped around her with a pained expression. The next few moments were so chaotic and confusing that Chaos himself would feel proud.

"Amphitrite van Blissia! How could you do such horrible acts and cause so much harm!? Your malicious intent brings harm and pain to innocents lives, such as Camillia here. You even threatened her to keep your crimes a secret just for your personal sake!"

In the confusion of all the screaming, Amphitrite took a look at Camillia, who was still in the company of Adonis's arms. They met eyes, and Camillia gave her a cruel smile.

Then it clicked in Amphitrite's head.

Camillia here was the only other person who knew about Lilith. Her breaks were unusually long, and Camillia wasn't there when they captured Amphitrite. She had always acted weird, a little suspicious.

While Amphitrite was in a daze, the yelling continued. Which was only to be stopped by Camillia, who was tugging Adonis's sleeves.

With big, teary, and innocent eyes, she pleaded, "Adonis, it's okay. She only wanted to help. She was just doing it so she could survive. You have to forgive her."

Adonis's expression softened, his eyes filled with love. "My dear Camillia, you're too kind. But you can't always forgive them, because some people deserve to be punished."

"I know, but she-" Camillia began, only to be cut off by Amphitrite.

Her rage took over her sense. She was responsible for Lilith's and Fleya's death. "She was the one who should be executed, not me. She should've been the one to deal with everything!" Amphitrite figured, fury consuming her mind. So, not in the complete right mind, Amphitrite started yelling her lungs out.

"YOU UNGRATEFUL MAID. YOU SAID YOU WOULD BE LOYAL! YOU SWORE AN OATH! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS!? YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED! LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO FLEYA AND LILITH! I SWEAR, ONE DAY, I WILL MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE SAME FATE AS THEM YOU LITTLE-"

Before she could finish rapidly spilling out the insults, Adonis pulled her in by her collar, his face brimming with anger.

"Don't. You. Dare. Say. Another. Word. You hear me?" He repeated each word as if they were a threat on their own.

Tossed again onto the cold, concrete floor of the prison, Adonis left, with Camillia running to him and catching him with an arm hug. She gave Amphitrite a smug smile and went back to talking with her new, princely lover. The doors of Amphitrite's cell closed with a bang, then a click of a key.

Laying on the floor, she then heard fragments of their conversation.

"Lets speed up the execution. I can't stand seeing that wrench being alive for another minute." Adonis grumbled, clearly mad at her outburst. Camillia began yapping in a fake, innocent voice as she begins to play the victim of the story.

Amphitrite laid there, sad and empty, as she counted the minutes until her doom
