Sleepover Conversations 1

I close my laptop, placing it on my nightstand nearby. Lucky's Good Stuff folder truly does have some of the REAL Good Stuff alright... Now that's out of the way... off to be-, A knock sounds from my door. Who could be at my door this late? It's almost 12! I'll just pretend to be asleep... Another knock sounds, this time quiet and followed by an unintelligible murmur. I guess ill go check... I roll out of bed, navigating my moonlet room. I open the door, poking my face around the corner. I lose my vision as the bright light of the hallway mimics a silent flashbang.

Clover: "Jax?.."

With my vision recovering, I look up to see Clover standing in front of my door, a small pink suitcase in tow.

Jax: "Clover? What brings you here so late? We touched down almost 3 hours ago."

Clover: "Well... After we landed... Lucas gave me a tour of the base..."

Jax: "Ah, that's nice... But why are you here though?"

Clover's usual timid faded voice, drops to something even less than a murmur. Barely understanding what she said in the dead silent hallway, I listen to her story.

Clover: "You... see... Because I'm new to the base... A room wasn't prepared for me yet... So I have... nowhere to sleep... And Lucas... suggested I sleep here... Since I'm your wingman..."

Jax: "... Will it be just for tonight?"

Clover: "Yes!.."

Jax: "Alright, come on in then... I don't have a spare bed for you so feel free to use mine."

Damn that Doc... Did he set this up on purpose? I flick on the light switch, once more being temporarily blinded by the sudden flash. I walk over to my bed, leaning against its metal post. I look down at my blue star-patterned pajamas, much more comfortable than sleeping in my thick flight suit.

Clover: "Then... Where will you sleep?.."

I tap my hand on the window sill.

Jax: "This will be fine. I had this custom made so I can lay down here. It isn't the best posture to sleep in, but it'll work as a spare bed for a day or two."

Clover: "I... See..."

Clover hovers in the middle of the room, letting her eyes bounce around in search of a place to put her luggage. Her eyes fall on my flight suit laid on one of the chairs by my table.

Jax: "Ah that, that's my flight suit. Prety convenient since it looks just like a normal jacket right?"

Clover: "Can... I touch it?.."

Jax: "Go ahead."

She props her luggage on the wall, making sure it's out of the way. She walks over to my flight suit, grabbing it off the chair. She throws it over herself, sliding her hands down the sleeves. Ah... I guess it's fine. Her sweater was already a little big for her, but my jacket is huge on her, my sleeves falling down to her knees. But a jacket on top of a hoodie is kinda awkward to wear isn't it?

Jax: "So?"

Clover: "Ah!.. Sorry..."

She removes my flight suit, returning it to its original position.

Clover: "It's... a little heavy..."

Jax: "Yea, it falls a little on the weighty side. But you get used to it... That sweater, is that your flight suit as well?"

Clover: "Yes!.. I asked for something cute and this is what I got... But it seems they got the size wrong... It also carries my helmet-mounted sight..."

Jax: "So it is a helmet-mounted sight... Here let me show you a cool little trick."

I walk over beside her, grabbing my jacket and sliding it on. I slide down the mask, clicking a button on my watch. My jacket lets out a faint hum before returning to silence. I raise my arm to check for the effect, yep I'm transparent.

Clover: "whoa!.."

Jax: "I don't have the bottom of my suit or my gloves so they're still visible. But pretty cool right?"

She nods her head, staring in amazement. I disable the effect, propping the jacket back on its humble home.

Clover: "What... are those?.."

She points to my gauntlets resting on the table. I grab each one, sliding one on each wrist

Jax: "Think of them as portable bounce pads. I can't fire them inside since they'll break stuff, but ill show you tomorrow."

I raise an arm, pointing it off towards my window. I slowly close my fist, ensuring they won't fire. Once more I remove my gadget, placing them back on the table.

Clover: "What... Are those for?.."

Jax: "Spirit specializes in stealth, to mimic that capability I was given gear that helps with infiltration and data extraction... Now that I think about it, you've never seen Spirits cloak active huh?"

She tilts her head in confusion.

Jax: "I'll take that as a no then. Imagine what my jacket can do, but all of Spirit can do it."

Her eyes shoot with intrigue, demanding to see it in action as soon as possible.

Jax: "I'll show you that tomorrow as well then... Do you have clothes to change out of? Or are you going to sleep in that all night?"

I point to her oversized hoodie and especially her cargo pants. The hoodie I could sleep in just fine, but that bulky and rigid cargo pants, would be quite uncomfortable.

Clover "Yes!.. I do... But... Do you have a shower I can use?.."

Jax: "Yea... Sure... It's over by the entrance."

Clover: "I'll be using it... If you don't mind..."

Jax: "Go ahead... Just don't ask me to help wash your back."

Her face shoots a bright pink as she promptly grabs her suitcase, wheeling it into the bathroom with her. I let out a small chuckle as I plop into the bed. Some day today huh, meet a new friend, flew out with them a few times, and even sharing a room on the same day we met... Damn that Doc, his taunts are still fluttering in my head. Maybe ill skin him juuust a little as a warning... I hear the shower kick on in the bathroom followed by faint humming. I guess ill turn out the lights and get into my bed. I flick the switch once more, seeing the bathroom's light seep through the bottom of the door. I turn back around for bed, following the moonlight I place myself on the windowsill, throwing my arms behind my head and a leg over the other, I wait for Clover. With an odd situation on my hands, my mind begins to flutter. A girl asks to sleep in your room because she apparently doesn't have her own... She asks to use my shower before going to bed... It's past twelve and everyone else is basically guaranteed to be asleep... Nick, my left side next-door neighbor has gone missing, and the right side room over is empty...ISNT THIS A REALLY BAD SITUATION!? The minutes tick by as I stare out into the endless stars, blank-faced. While my mind is burning in an all-out war of possibilities, trying its hardest to process what could be happening...

As my trance raged on, the repetitive white noise of the showerhead froze. My eyes shoot away from the window, being locked on the doors glow. My mind's chaos freezes for a second... Before conflicting voices erupt into even further chaos. ITS TIME! I won't be able to sleep tonight... Nothing will happen quit kidding yourself... This is just an elaborate joke for earlier, watch she'll just walk right out the door afterwords... You know what people say about the quite silent types. Maybe she's one of them!.. She's too shy and innocent! Nothing will happen!.. Maybe shy and innocent on the outside, but down and dirty on the inside... The door lets out a click as a shallow light fills the room. Clover steps out of the bathroom, wearing a bathrobe. My eyes lock onto Clover, unable to be moved away. ITS TIME! Turning off the bathroom light and gently shutting the door, Clover silently walks into the main room. Illuminated only by the blue light of the moon, Clover undoes the bathrobes knot.

Turning around, she gently removes the robe. Placing it on the other side of my jacket's backrest.
