Sleepover Converations 2

WHO WEARS CLOTHES UNDER A BATHROBE!? Underneath her bathrobe was a simple pair of pink pajamas. She turns back to me, her eyes gentle gaze meets mine as she bashfully adverts her gaze. I try my absolute hardest not to express any form of emotion or action. I slowly return my gaze out into the sad, endless, pitiful stars as my whole body tenses from psychological pain. Without any acknowledgment of the psychological warfare she just put me through, she slides into my bed without a second thought. My bed lays parallel to my windowsill but faces the opposite directions. I glance down at Clover, checking her face for any form of amusement from her attack. She has dragged my blanket up to her face, peaking over them slightly until she noticed my gaze shift to her. She retreats underneath them, poking out a few times to see if I've removed my watchful eyes before sinking back in. Feeling that I won't remove my gaze, she tries a different approach. She lowers the blanket, staring me dead in the eyes. I can't help but let out a small smile and after a few seconds, her face begins to dye pink as she slides back undercover once more. It seems her mental attacks haven't ended... Keeping the blanket partially over her face, she instead looks around the room.

Clover: "Your room... Is pretty empty..."

I look away, returning my gaze to the stars and moonlit dunes

Jax: "Is that a bad thing?"

Clover: "N-No!.. It's just... Simple... In a calming way..."

Jax: "... I think so too... Besides my bed, mirror, and wardrobe, I went for a simple family house kitchen for my design. Having a counter to place food right over the table, ready to seat four or five. While someone on the other side of that counter is cooking the food, chatting to the family at the table. I don't know how to cook myself, nor do I have friends over very often. So it kinda just sits there, all alone, waiting patiently for a day where it can be fully seated with friends or family laughing around it... A little saddening right?"

Clover: "..."

Jax: "... So Clover, what made you wanna fly?"

Clover: "To be... Free..."

Jax: "Free? Free, from what, if you don't mind me asking."

Clover: "Free from... The ones who looked... Down on me..."

Jax: "I see... I can tell you now Clover, here at base Yurei, we all welcome you with open arms. And ill help you train until you can beat even Boss."

She lets out a little hum as confirmation.

Jax: "So, where do you come from?"

Clover: "I come from... A small city far from here... Not very many came in, or out..."

Jax: "Kinda like here on base in some ways. We're basically alone out here except when the supply trucks come by."

Clover: "Supply trucks?.."

Jax: "Ah, right, Since Yurei is quite literally in the middle of nowhere, we get huge convoys every month or so to restock on supplies. You can put in requests for things you want next time they come over. It can be anything from simple food to intricate gadgets or toys. You're new to the base so don't hold back on your wants! They accept most requests as long as it's reasonable."

Clover: "Will do!.. I think... I know... What I'll get first..."

Jax: "Oh? What would that be?"

Clover: "A secret!"

I let out a small chuckle, glancing down at Clover.

Jax: "Suit yourself..."

Clover: "Hey Jax... Why did you... Become a pilot?.. Your only 18..."

Jax: "I'm... Not sure why... I have amnesia behind 15 years old. When I woke up here, on base Yurei they said I was shot down on a mission and suffered an accident."

Clover: "Oh... I'm... Sorry to hear that..."

Jax: "Don't be, I'm not bothered by it whatsoever."

Clover: "One more question?.."

Jax: "Shoot."

Clover: "When we were flying together today... I was pulling constant 15 G maneuvers... Yet... You weren't even taking sharper breaths to not blackout..."

Jax: "Well you see, my flight suit is quite something. Spirit is capable of pulling well over a hundred G's. And to be able to fly her to full capacity I have that."

Clover: "Over one hundred!? No human could possibly survive that many!.."

Jax: "Well here I am! If you don't believe me... Tomorrow I can fight you using Spirit's full capabilities."

Clover: "That's... Ok... I believe you..."

Jax: "If you say so."

I grab all the papers I can find, folding them before stuffing them into my pockets. May and the others can use this information better than I can right now. I creep over to the table the man slept on, noticing a laptop appearing where he was resting. I open the laptop, hoping for a quick peek of information. Being shut down by a password, I click my tongue in denial. I spot a USB sat behind the laptop, I guess this will do. I slide the stick into my pocket alongside the sheets of paper. Faintly hearing the rolling gravel of approaching footsteps, I once again scurry under the table. The same two soldiers step into the tent, the one who fell asleep wavering as he steps. He clicks on the lamp as he scans around his desk, the other leaning against my table as he waits.

Soldier 1 "Where did I put that USB... I think the Commander took it after her briefing. Should we go ask her for it?"

Soldier 2: "No, she's been working nonstop since arrival, planning out that assault. Let her have her rest, we'll ask her in the morning."

Soldier 1 pulls the chair out from the desk, placing himself in it.

Soldier 1: "We used over half our reinforcements for that assault! And some kid single-handedly unraveled the whole thing? We had nearly 5 times their man count attacking that hill. Ensuring we captured them without fail. Climbing each side except that steep slope that Commander covered."

Soldier 2: "I heard that's how the kid managed to escape, through that steep hill. Where he then flanked our guys. Taking them out before we could react and retaliate."

Soldier 1: "Impossible, ranges like that is child play for Commander."

Soldier 2: "I heard a few rumors of guys that were defending base during the assault. Apparently, because of the kid's small size, and him giving close return fire, she couldn't hit a clean shot."

Soldier 1: "C'mon, you think that's true? They most likely had reinforcements incoming when we began the attack or something. One kid couldn't deal with over 20 men all by himself"

Soldier 2: "I don't know man, they're just rumors. It doesn't help that Commander herself won't elaborate on what happened. But still, whoever managed to do it, wiping them out that fast..."

Soldier 1: "We'll find out tomorrow when the men recover from the assault. The only one who saw what happened is in badly injured."

Soldier 2: "That's not a lot of information to go off of... But what can we do. C'mon, let's get to bed."

Soldier 1: "Right behind ya."

The two soldiers step out of the tent, turning the light off as they walk by. I thought they were never going to leave... I slowly inch myself out from under the table, locking my eyes on the tent's opening. I have all the info I need, time for phase two. Illuminated only by the crescent moon, I peek through the tent's door. I look to the guards posted outside the gate. Their eyes locked onto the pitch-black forest beyond. I shift my gaze to the barracks beside me, looking through each window. Their lights are still on but I don't see any movement or activity in them. Swapping views between the two areas, I swiftly reach the tarp-covered crates across the base. I lift the thick plastic tarp, peaking inside the large metal boxes. The inside was topped off with explosives, gas, and boxes of ammunition. Why the hell do they need all this firepower for? Are they turning this into a FOB? If so this base needs to be dealt with more than ever.

I grab several packs of C4, making sure to grab a detonator along the way. Grabbing one last satchel, I place it at my feet, arming the charge. If this whole base is going up, this needs to go for sure. I silently sneak around the base, placing a charge near every important facility. The barracks and tents, generators, the jeeps, guardposts, and under the watchtowers, arming each one before moving to the next. Having the charges in place and ready to engage, escape is the only issue... The entrances are of course guarded, the towers are manned, And these walls are too tall and smooth for me to climb... Unless... I reach behind me, unsheathing my thick combat knife. If I jam my knife into the wall and use it as a stepping stool I could manage. hiding behind one of the empty tents, I wiggle my knife between the two half of the barricade. Jamming it into place I test its hold. All good, this will be a 50/50 if it'll hold under my weight and jump. But it's the only chance I have of getting out. I step back from the wall, setting up for a running start. Launching towards the knife, I jump. Landing on the hilt of the blade, I kick myself as high as I can. I reach for the top, narrowly grabbing it with my fingers. I glance down at my bent knife, its metal shine gleaming in the faint moonlight.

I pull myself to the top of the barricade, looking back over the outpost once more. The woman from before, I think her name was Chloe? was walking towards the entrance. It's a good thing I hid the C4 under the jeeps. She walks to the entrance, exchanging a few words with the guards before walking out the base into the shadowy forest beyond, seemingly unarmed. A midnight stroll into the forest alone? A few miles away from an enemy outpost no less, how abnormal. Well, that abnormality will save her from a cruel fate tonight. I turn from the base, dropping off the barricade in the opposite direction from the entrance. a quarter's way back to base I pull out the detonator, flicking the safety switch. As I continue walking I listen in to the cool gentle breeze brushing through the trees. As the dim moonlight illuminates my soft dirt path...
