Chapter 23 Nervousness
"Okay! Let's go!"
A voice woke everyone up from their thoughts.
They all simultaneously turned their attention in the direction of the voice.
Itetia's blue eyes sparkled, dissatisfaction filled Lino's and Damien's red eyes widened as they beheld Dark's gorgeous form.
She was wearing a mini red dress which ended a little bit before it reached her knees. Sparkling red earrings in the form of a Phoenix adorned her ears. It had no sleeves and its lower neckline showed off the deep valley between her two peaks. A red hand bag hung on her left shoulder.
Her eyes were currently only focused on Damien as she wanted to see his reaction the most.
"Beautiful!" An exclamation leaked out of his widely opened eyes as he beheld her figure.
Lino had her pink eyes glaring at Dark as if she wanted to bore holes in her.
"You are dressed beautifully!" Complemented Itetia as she gave Dark a thumbs up.
"Let's go!" Dark declared when she started feeling heat rising up in her body as Damien's gaze focused on her without blinking.
She was starting to regret her decision as his stare looked like that of a predator looking at its prey hungrily.
They exited the house and headed for the teleportation circle.
"Where is that detestable woman?" Damien asked as he walked side by side with Dark.
"She was given a task by the god queen. It seems the five powerful clans want a piece of the pie that this place is going to turn into." Dark explained with a grave expression.
"Oh! How did they find out. Ahh! That woman must have told them, right?" He asked.
"Yeah, she must have leaked the news. The decorations and all the other things you need will be hard to obtain if they oppose." She said.
Lino and Itetia were curious about who they were talking about but they didn't want to interrupt as it seemed the conversation was serious.
"You might even have to go over and negotiate." Dark dropped a bomb.
"What do you mean? Even though I admit that am one of the best people to go, as you know, am just that great." He gestured towards himself with that remark.
"Those clans are backed by god kings/queens! Even the people I will have to negotiate with will at minimum be gods. How am I supposed to handle the pressure?" Damien continued with a question.
"Well... The god queen might not want to stoop so low as to negotiate with those people since their clan heads are outside of Pantheon city. And you do know that she is whimsical. You might find yourself chosen. That was bad phrasing, you were chosen." She leaned in and whispered that last sentence into his ears to prevent it from reaching the two women behind them.
"You are right. And am pretty sure you might have invited me outside precisely because of that?" He asked as he had seen through her intentions.
"She sent me a text message. It seems like something happened between you two as she sent a text message instead of granting you an audience." Dark said as her eyes looked at him with curiosity.
"It was just a small matter. It seems like there is no choice but to go meet them." He said as they finally arrived at the teleportation formation.
It lit up when the four entered the center and they vanished in the light.
They appeared at the bottom.
"Let me first give you a rundown as how to tell locations in the city" Dark declared as she stood in front of them and turned to face them.
"There are four districts in the city. They are separated by four main roads. They are the ones you see directly facing the four faces of this tower." She said as she pointed towards the road feeding into the circular one around the tower. It was directly behind her facing the entrance to the teleportation room.
"The four districts are cone shaped due to the four roads cutting the circular Pantheon continent. Directly opposite the right corner of the entrance, the tip of the first district meets the ring road. The left hand corner meets the second district's corner. They are named up to the fourth following in the anticlockwise direction." She explained all that in one breath.
Since they were all powerful beings, memorising such a simple explanation was easy.
"Now! Follow me to the first district she said as she led the way as they crossed the road to the tip of the first district.
The building making up the tip was built in the form of a vertical triangle rising up from the ground.
Damien had casually given it a look during the time he went out with Dark and now, he was giving it a serious evaluation.
He looked to his left and saw that the same style was used to build the building at the second district's tip too.
The one he was standing in front of was silver while the left one was black.
"The colors represent the family in charge of the district and they are ranked according to the district number." Dark explained as they stood in front of the silver building.
Its height alone had surpassed that of every other building and it was almost at the level of the suns.
"What about the fifth family?" Lino asked as she noticed the discrepancy with her information.
"Well... A competition is held to determine the power levels of the partriachs, after which a rank is determined. The least powerful one has their family moved to the edges of the city and only focuses on managing the arrivals and people leaving, earning a meager amount." She explained.
"I thought the edges would see more profits?" Damien posed that as a question.
"Well, most of the valuable things exist in the center of the city and taxing them is managed by the four clans. The fifth one only gets the fee for ferrying the people to and from the city."
"I understand. Now what are we doing in front of here?" Damien asked as he pointed at the silver building.
"We are going to a meeting of the five vice heads of the five clans. Will you be okay? They are all gods." Asked Dark as she led the way towards the triangular tip. Her eyes were filled with worry directed towards him as the five were gods.
The sides parted and slid backwards as they approached and they entered.
"I will be okay." He assured as her crossed his hands behind his back.
His palms were sweaty and only Lino had noticed that detail.
'He's still the same. He crosses his hands behind his back when nervous.' she thought as her beautiful pink eyes gazed at his broad back as they entered the building.
Itetia, on the other hand was looking around. They expected the building to be quiet but it was quite crowded.
Many people could be seen moving in the lobby.
Dark made eye contact with a receptionist who pointed to their left upon which she led them towards the elevator.
They entered and it closed cutting off the sound outside as it started its ascent.
Damien's heart hammered in his chest as his nervousness mounted.
Even though his body was reacting to his nervousness, his expression only became calmer and more stoic.
All the women were currently staring at his back, mesmerized by his sheer will.
Only Lino knew that he was in fact enduring a lot of pressure.
It reminded her of those times they were always in the presence of people stronger than them. Damien always stood in front of her, protecting her even when he was terrified and nervous, quaking in his boots, never wavering.
'When I reach the target he set, I hope I do manager to be able to share in his worries.' She thought.
'I hope that woman doesn't cause any problems, or else I will make sure I kill her myself!' Dark thought as she looked at his back.
'He always takes point, he's becoming cooler, I do hope he doesn't die one day.' Itetia thought as she rolled a finger through her curly blue hair.
[Ting!]
The elevator arrived at its destination. Dark had pressed a key for the top most floor as soon as they entered the elevator and it had arrived.
'Don't fail me legs!' Damien shouted in his mind as the doors opened and he walked out with the women trailing behind.
He removed his hands and put on his glasses after which he put them in his pockets. He took in a deep breath and his entire being seemed to change as he breathed out.
The women couldn't put a sense on it but it seemed like he was going for war. That was the vibe he was giving off.
