Chapter 28 The Man Called Damien
"Why do you want to create a clone?" Dark asked after advising him.
"Well, its for survivability."
"Why?" She pressed on.
"Currently most of the people here are stronger than me. I might fall into someone's plot and die without anyone knowing. Having an extra life is a failsafe. My divinity 'blood', increases my regeneration but you never know..." He explained.
"Having a clone is, basically insurance."
"It seems you are cautious. I thought you provoked them without a plan." She praised.
"You have never been to a battlefield. If you had, you would have sensed their power." Damien said as his thoughts moved to the memory of the meeting.
There was a certain aura that the four men had been radiating. It had been different for each but it was intimidating.
"I saw the way Lino looks at you. It seems she has feelings for you." She shifted the topic.
"I know but if she doesn't reach the requirements, she won't have a chance to be with me." He answered seriously.
"But you do know that your mortal desires are reactivated in Pantheon city. If she tries to seduce you..." She didn't finish the sentence but he understood.
Dark wanted to find out if Damien had feeling for Lino.
"Perfection such as my self sticks to their word. It won't happen." He declared.
"I doubt that. Anyway, have you ever fallen in love?"
Dark's black eyes shimmered with anticipation to the answer of that question.
"No, and I doubt I will!"
It was Dark's turn to widen her eyes.
"Why?" She asked.
"I don't want feelings to distract me. I have seen a lot of that in the universe and it doesn't end well." He explained as he looked into her eyes.
"I know you have feelings for me but I don't." He admitted.
"Oh! Love can be cultivated." She said as if his exposure of her feelings wasn't a big deal.
"You seem confident. But my goal is to form a harem. If I gain feelings for only one woman, it would be a bad thing for my plan." He said.
"Hahahahaha... Feelings can't be stopped. I am really looking forward to seeing you in the future when you have fallen in love." She laughed as if it was a joke.
What he had said sounded absurd in her ears.
"You don't believe me?" He asked as he moved his face closer to hers.
Dark's eye balls swarm around.
She was flustered. His face was too close for her comfort.
She stood up and went to the right sofa, leaving him alone in the middle one.
"Hahahaha...why do you get flustered so easily?" He asked as he laughed at her reaction.
"I won't answer that." She said as the red blush which had crept up her face receded.
Damien's arms rose up as he stretched. Sitting in one position for so long seemed to make his muscles sleep.
'Fuck that god emperor!' He didn't forget to curse in his mind.
Such things shouldn't have happened ever since he seized to be a mortal.
"Before your meeting with that guy, I will give you a rundown of the Munene clan." Dark's expression morphed into a serious one.
She was concerned that his lack of information might get him into a disadvantage.
Damien, who was leaning back also straightened up since the information would make negotiations easier.
"The Munene clan specialises in dignities related to Earth so you have to be careful. They were once the number one clan but fell due to the death of the previous clan leader."
"That explains why he knew about the rainbow liquid.' He interjected.
"Yes. The other clans, except the Diamante clan hold them in high regard.
Gigan, is a direct descendant of the current clan leader, which means he has access to all the secrets if the clan. He is a patient individual whose schemes run deep. Those people taunting and disrespecting you at the meeting might have been his work."
"Do you have any information on whether he fought any battles?" He asked.
To Damien, that was important as he had to make sure he didn't lose his life.
"No, that's a secret we don't know."
"I want him to sculpt the compounds of the houses, but I will have to pay him even before any people move in. How am I going to get him to do it for free?" He wondered aloud.
"That's impossible. We have to tell the god queen." She denied it and suggested a solution.
"Let's go then." He said as he stood up.
"Aren't you going to rest?" She asked as she stood up a few seconds later.
"I won't. I need to start earning fast. I, in order to multiply my greatness, need to become a god as soon as possible."
"You aren't great. I don't even know where you got such a notion." She scoffed.
"It is the reason you fell for me. By the way, you are only qualified to become my concubine. That little girl might be qualified to become my wife if she admits that I am perfection itself not her." He snorted as he explained.
Dark pouted with dissatisfaction when she heard 'concubine'.
"If you keep spouting such nonsense, you might lose a harem member!" She announced as she exited.
'Haaah! Most women wouldn't want to even share with another woman. Is something wrong with her.'
Damien thought while his jaws were on the floor.
"Wait!" He called out. His demeaner changed.
Dark caught that the tone of voice had changed and turned around.
She saw that he was looking at her seriously. It seemed like he wanted to say something but didn't known how.
"Ever since I embarked on the path of an elemental string weaver, I have found it boring. All the slaughtering, coming to Pantheon city and wanting to form a harem are ideas I came up with to try and get rid of the boredom, but so far nothing has worked. I decided to tell you before your feelings get any deeper." He said.
He sat back down as if he had let go of a huge burden.
"Did you tell this to Lino?" Dark asked with concern in her voice.
"I...probably did?!" He said vaguely.
"What do you mean?"
"I told it to the other personality inside her but I don't know if she told her." He answered.
She came back and took a seat on the sofa she had migrated to when she escaped from his teases.
"Even when you are teasing me, you find it boring?" She asked.
"Yes. I am searching for something that will give me excitement but so far I haven't." He said as his voice took on a cold detached tone.
"Its like am a living mechanical life form.
Lino, I mean her other personality found me like that. Simply slaughtering evil lifeforms without purpose." He continued in the same detached tone.
Dark felt a little pain in her heart when she saw his coldness.
'I really hope he finds something which will make him excited.' Such a thought was birthed in her mind.
"From now on am going to be with this expression. All the expressions I was making before were fake. I was trying to blend in but its impossible." He continued.
The rims of Dark's eyes reddened as tears threatened to fall.
"What about the kiss?"
"That was my attempt to see if I would get excited." He answered without batting an eyelid.
Lino, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, had tears sliding down her face and so too did the figure who was seated upon a golden throne.
Her domain was engulfing the entire god emperor artifact. She was eavesdropping because she wanted to get to know the man named Damien.
"Why did it have to be me!?" Dark shouted as she glared at him.
"Didn't you consider how I'd feel when you kissed me?" She continued her interrogation.
"Sorry, but I had to try." He answered.
"You should have tried it on me." A voice interrupted as Lino entered the room.
"Why? It would have been pointless since it would have given you hope and broke the agreement stating the conditions you must reach before having a chance at dating me." He answered her calmly.
"Any you decided that you had to experiment on ME!!!" Dark shouted.
Most of the time she was soft spoken but Damien had hurt her deeply.
Black flames flared on her body. Rage had overtaken her rational mind.
Damien, who was seated blurred before appearing behind the sofa he had been occupying.
'Shit' Phoenix whose heart also ached for Dark cursed before willing with her mind.
Golden flames ignited between the sofa he was hiding behind and Dark.
They condensed into a golden figure, its gaze was concentrated on Dark.
"Calm down!" The voice of Phoenix came from the golden embodiment.
