Chapter 37 Pearl's Life Story

Chapter 37 Pearl's Life Story

Pearl, Damien and Silver were currently standing beneath the throne of Phoenix.

Pearl was standing side by side with Damien and didn't even argue about how Phoenix seemed to be looking down on them.

All her thoughts were concentrated on Damien.

'Why is that woman's gaze fixated on Damien?'

Phoenix was wondering. Her gaze, which was glaring down on Pearl had hints of jealousy starting to blossom but Pearl acted like she didn't feel it.

"I have come here to see you, old friend." Pearl said after she managed to tear her gaze away from Damien.

"I heard you killed that god from Waver's clan! That guy is troublesome!"

"There's no need for you to worry on my behalf!" Phoenix hotheadedly said. Her jealousy had led to it.

"If he does something like, hire a god emperor! How are you going to handle him?"

"Do those people grow on trees? The treasures needed can't be obtained by him!"

Pearl sighed exasperatedly.

'Why is she angry?'

Phoenix was glaring at her with such intensity that her flames almost ignited on Pearl. If she had been weaker, she would have turned to ashes.

Damien and Silver weren't aware.

Silver was still in shock and Damien was absentmindedly staring outside the palace.

"You can go back now that you have seen me!"

"Nonono...I have found someone interesting, so I will be staying here until the opening ceremony. I bet you have a spare room or two in the mansion."

"Oh! Could it be my servant, Damien?"

"I am a manager." Damien interjected.

"Shut up you! How come all these vixens have taken a liking to you?" The last sentence was in a whisper.

"Mr. Manager, lead me to the mansion!" Pearl ordered.

"I don't work for you." He retorted calmly.

"That is true. Then...would you show me to the mansion kind gentleman?" She asked once again.

Her eyes were saying that if he dared to reject, he would be dragged by force.

A sigh escaped his lips before he turned on his heels and proceeded to walk around the throne.

"Manager Damien! Please first exit the palace. It isn't a road!" Phoenix ordered.

'I can't show too much emotion. If she figures out that I care too much, she will use it against me!' Phoenix thought.

Damien sighed for the second time, turned in his heels and walked back towards where he came from.

A smirk was plastered on Pearl's face. It had been a small victory for her.

"Is it worth it to entice the Phoenix god queen over a mere demigod?"

"I can hear you, silver!" Damien said

"I know!"

"I am chasing after my heart. I don't care about the consequences." Pearl said before rushing to catch up with Damien.

"Why are you like this? You weren't like this?" Silver asked when she caught up with the two.

"I had a husband a long time ago. He was a mere god, but we had grew up together.

I loved him even though he was weaker than me but his weakness became a sore spot for him."

The two were hooked and waited for her to continue.

"One day, when I wasn't around, he ventured into a pocket dimension due to a rumor that it had a treasure which could help a god instantly break into the god king realm."

"That's a lie! Comprehension is what is needed!" Silver refuted.

"No! Such treasures do exist, but they are mostly in the hands of god emperors/empresses.

I came back to our planet and they told me what had happened. 1000 years had passed by then!"

Tears shimmered in her eyes as she recounted her story.

"No one knew where the pocket realm was located, so I searched for where the rumor had originated from. I found out that an evil God emperor had spread it and attracted multiple gods whom he used as materials to refine a pill."

Silver patted Pearl. Her tears were falling too.

Only Damien was still calm.

"That's where I abandoned the search. I couldn't attack the god emperor as that would lead to my death. I craved living more than revenge. Isn't that an ugly thing to do?"

"That realisation made me lose myself and I wandered the universe whimsically. I slept with many men, well mostly gods and godkings."

"When I was at that low point, I met a little girl on one of the planets, that was you, Silver. The moment I saw you, my motherly instincts took over and I decided to raise you. You were the only person on that desolate planet. I think space pirates or the like had annihilated every life form on it.

I cleaned up my act and decided to become a respectable person. I came to Pantheon city and started a small clan and it has grown till this point, but I still feel as if a hole is in my heart!"

"Then I saw him!" She turned to Damien.

"I felt a kindredness in you!"

"What are you talking about? Am just a bored traveller, you, on the other hand are just a sorrowful traveller." Damien refuted.

"Well, we are almost the same."

"Is that how you always felt? I never knew?" Silver hugged her mother as she shed tears and cried loudly.

"No need to cry for me!" Pearl said as she pushed her away and wiped her tears with her fingers.

"Well, you were selfish but, he already died. There is no need to torment yourself so!" Damien said.

"What are you saying? She cared about him! How can such feelings be erased!" Silver shouted at him.

"I am not asking her to forget him. She just needs to start enjoying her life instead of carrying that heavy burden called guilt." He answered her calmly.

"You are right!" Pearl said.

"Am going to become the first customer once this place opens!" She declared.

Silver was so shocked that she abruptly stopped crying.

Damien's stoic expression also slackened a bit.

"Living next to a kindred spirit might give me the healing I need!"

"We have arrived!" Damien changed the topic as he didn't want to see her almost happy/sad face. She had tried to cheer herself up but her sad eyes got in the way of her making a cheerful expression.

-----

"Do you want to come in?" Pearl asked as she winked provocatively at Damien who was outside.

She had chosen a room on the ground floor since she said it will be easier to move out when this place opens.

"If you throw in a certain daughter, I might agree!" He answered as he got an idea of what she was suggesting.

"What do you mean?" Silver, who hadn't understood asked.

"Offer that to me again with a genuine smile and not that fake one." Damien said before walking off.

Pearl, whose face was straining from keeping the smile morphed back into one of sadness.

She closed the door and went inside with Silver.

Words failed to come out of her mouth now that they were alone.

"M-Mother..." She tried to say something but refrained.

Words failed to come out of her mouth.

"No need to try and console me. I will get over it. Besides, I have found someone who might help with that."

--------

'I hate hearing such sob stories. If she wasn't a god queen, I might have left her the moment she started telling me her story.' Damien sighed as he walked back into his residence.

Dark was standing in front of his door hesitating whether to knock or not. She hadn't yet noticed him.

He sighed, before turning back and heading towards the teleportation formation.

He caught a glimpse of Phoenix atop her throne as he passed by the temple looking palace.

Her eyes were also trained on him. She signalled him to go to her.

He jumped up and entered the temple, after which he appeared under her throne.

"What?" He asked.

He had gotten a little angry. He didn't want to meet any of the women for the time being.

"Did you enjoy h-h-having s-s-sex with Dark?" She asked while blushing.

"Yes, but it was missing something." He answered honestly.

"What?"

"Don't know, maybe love?" He answered.

"Good!"

"Why is it good?" Damien asked.

"Oh! I-I meant bad." She answered as she turned her face away.

"I want to be alone, so would you allow me to leave?" He asked.

"Yes! you can!"

He could detect that she was happy but, he didn't care enough to asked why.

He left, passed Gigan and his workers, who had started on the second house and entered the teleportation formation.

He set off on a random direction once he arrived in the city. He just mindlessly walked around.

'That woman's expression! Why is it lingering in my heart?'

'Her sob story is too common in the universe but, why did I feel pity for her? Nothing should be capable of moving my heart.'

'Could it be a sign that my once immovable heart is changing. I hope it is! Living like as if am an android is tiresome. Life just passes in front of your eyes. Its like you are just a bystander. It is frustrating!'

'Could it be that frustration was my first feeling? I don't know, but I don't dislike the change which might be coming to me.'

A hint of a genuine smile almost formed on his lips.
