Chapter 40 Opening Ceremony Part 3, Devouring Organisms
"So...tell me, Waver, why were you trying to undermine my ceremony? The death of a single god shouldn't be enough to rile you up, now would it?"
Phoenix asked once all the guests had left to look around.
All the god kings and queens had stayed behind. To them, the residencies weren't important.
Waver was a middle aged looking man with blue hair and eyes which were like water. Even though he had the same hair color as the deceased Blue Waver, they weren't related.
Phoenix had asked calmly, but that had caused all the throne occupant's hearts to jump. All of them knew her, she was unpredictable. Even though she was calm, there was no guarantee that she wouldn't attack instantly.
He was seated to her left and if she attacked, even though he wouldn't die in one hit, he could get injured badly. She was someone who put people on edge.
"I don't care about the dead idiot, he deserved it. But couldn't you have waited until I arrived to kill him?"
"Oh! I get it!..." She clapped her hands together as she turned to looks at him.
"...it must be something related to your reputation, but really, is your reputation more important than offending me?" Her eyes narrowed dangerously.
Waver felt it, the thick bloodlust coupled with her calm appearance caused him stress. He had to pick his words carefully.
'There is nothing to fear, we are all in the same realm!' He psyched himself up.
"Yes,it is! Our clans are deeply rooted in Pantheon city while, you are simply a temporary ruler. So undermining us is unwise!" He talked while looking at the other clan leaders in turn.
But they acted as if they didn't hear anything he was talking about.
'Trash! Good thing I got that something from that god emperor or else I would dare offend her, who has control of this artifact.' That though made him puff out his chest.
"So it seems!"
Weaver's heart skipped and he blinked rapidly trying to register what had happened.
Phoenix was standing in front of him with her hands behind her back.
"Waver, my face is also important. You see...that shenanigan you pulled in front of the guests was an affront to me!" She continued while calmly looking down on him.
This time he was truly sweating. He didn't understand how she had just appeared.
"I see you are trying to comprehend what happened. Hmm...let's just say it was a trick of time usage via the emperor artifact."
This time all the eyebrows of the seated god kings and Pearl were raised in surprise.
'She might kill me without my knowledge! Its time to use that thing!' Waver was panicking in his mind but outwardly, he was keeping a calm expression.
"I have been battling ever since I was born, you do know that right? I can smell your fear." She said while her lips curved upwards.
She wanted him to attack.
The panicking Waver materialised a large jar as tall as him in front of him. The pressure it gave off was that of an emperor artifact.
Phoenix jumped into the sky as a look of vigilance crossed her face.
"You forced my hand...I didn't want to resort to this!" Waver shouted before opening it and a black mist gushed out.
The moment it did, it had spread everywhere instantaneously.
'The laws of time!' That thought passed through the others as they tried to push the mist out of their bodies.
"The people who had gone to tour the property collapsed. Even Damien and the trio weren't spared.
"You do know that some of the gods and demigods who came are descendants of god emperors, right?" Phoenix asked as she also tried to expel the mist from her body.
"What!?!? He lied to me!" Weaver's face turned pale as the realisation that he had been used set in.
"It was supposed to only target you?" He shouted.
'I need to escape! If I am caught...?" He didn't want to even think of the consequences.
'These are tiny organisms? They are devouring my strings?' Phoenix sensed it and activated the time laws of the artifact. All the guests below the god king stage who had fainted had the devouring and they themselves frozen.
'I need to first capture him!'
Her Phoenix robe ignited into golden flames which covered her entire form.
"You side characters! Help out! We need to capture him alive!" She ordered the other god kings.
Battles between god kings/queens rarely ended in one party dying since they were mostly evenly matched, trying to capture your opponent alive, was harder than even trying to kill them.
A rotating axe passed by Pearl who had been trying to stop the encroachment of the organisms and shattered Waver's throne.
He had already flown into the air.
"Hey! Munene! Our clans are in this together! You should be on my side!" Waver shouted towards a burly man with brown hair.
"Tsk! Tsk! Waver,waver,waver...what you have just done has crossed the line! Our people were also on this platform." He said as he summoned the axe back to his hands.
The broken pieces of Waver's throne turned into droplets of water which rose up and fused back into him.
"The devouring organism is also affecting me! I was tricked!" He shouted.
"Pearl rain!"
A beautiful voice shouted before millions of pearls manifested at Pearl's side and blasted towards Waver.
"My foster daughter might die because of you!"
Waver conjured a ball of water around himself which absorbed them.
He frowned as he saw that it wouldn't last since her pearls were turning g back into strings and corrupting his water.
Most gods didn't allow any of their opponent's attacks to touch their bodies because they could corrupt your divinity and tweaked you.
As the wave of pearls ended, with him having replenished the corrupted water bubble many times, a blast of heat appeared above him.
His eyes widened upon looking up. A gigantic flaming talon was descending on his head.
'This woman used her true form? Shit! I need to escape!'
He didn't dawdle as he started growing. His body enlarged and elongated after he dogded the talon.
It became a massive humanoid body of water.
"Phoenix! Is this battle really to the death! How can you trigger your true form?" Waver's voice rumbled from the giant.
His true form a water elemental. It was a lake which had gained sentience upon a series of lucky coincidences.
A mist formed around his giant body. It was a result of him moving the water particles making up his body at incredible speed.
Phoenix on the other hand had transformed into a gigantic bird clad in golden flames.
They were facing off above the platform. Their figures were comparable to the suns rotating around above Pantheon city.
------
"Isn't that the Phoenix god queen?" Someone who had caught the figure of the giant bird asked his colleague.
"Then that must be the clan leader of the Waver clan!"
"Could it be that they are fighting because of that dark mist which has affected the gods and demigods?" Another asked.
"I hope they don't destroy the city with their clash." Someone had dash of worry.
"All of you! Run into the nearest building!" Someone with a badge with PP emblazoned on it raced past them. He was notifying everyone.
------
"All of you are forcing my hand!" Waver was stalling.
'How can I escape? I can't be turned over to those god emperors and empresses!' His mind was working rapidly to come up with ideas.
The massive bird opened its beak and produced a streak of flames towards him.
"Shit!" He cursed loudly before parting the water making up his abdomen and the attack passed through the hole into the void at his back.
"Yaaaaaaaaaa!!!!" He shouted as he clenched his right fist and punched towards the Phoenix.
A flap and she vanished to appear behind him.
She spread out her wings and released a massive amount if feathers towards him.
A gigantic waterfall appeared at his back and blocked the feathers. The water impacted the platform before running off and evaporating into steam due to the heat of the suns.
Flames could be seen here and there. They contained Phoenix's divinity of nirvana.
She had also locked the space so the water didn't wash away the fainted guests.
'I need to finish this fast! The organisms are diminishing my reserves of strings!' She got anxious.
"What the hell are you doing?" He sweet voice blasted into the the others who were still on the platform.
Pearl took to the skies and turned into a gigantic clam just under the two battling giants.
"I will help guard the people under!" She declared. No one found fault with her since they knew her divinity wasn't truly suited for battle.
She formed transparent pearls and enclosed each of the guests.
Munene jumped up and turned into...
