Chapter 48 The Talk

Chapter 48 The Talk

Even after Moon left, no one had moved from their spots. She had said that one of her admirers was going to give her his residence here in the estate.

Pearl was pale...in fact too pale! The memories she had been trying to lock away had come crashing back! Tears were streaming down her eyes.

The others didn't even know how to comfort her. They could have called Silver but, she was away with Dark in an alternate universe at the orders of the god queen.

"Pearl! Come to the bar!" Damien came and took her hand pulling her outside.

'That woman's show was exhilarating! But I don't want to ever go through something like this again! My interest in her has also waned! Haaaa...when will I get someone?' He lamented while dragging Pearl behind himself.

That wide back...he was like her protector...dragging her out of her abyssal prison into the light!

Pearl had become dazed when Damien took her hand in his! The warmth of his hand had managed to help her out of her sorrows.

Itetia and Rose excused themselves and they too...followed after Damien.

Phoenix, collapsed back into her throne and rubbed her index finger on her forehead.

'This woman is going to be troublesome!' Even the whimsical Phoenix found it hard to handle Moon's antics! A testament to her craziness!

"Pearl, don't take anything to heart. You will age faster. Do you want to have wrinkles at your age?" Damien asked without turning his head.

"How can I age faster! Am still young!" Pearl shouted, then blushed when she saw the strange looks the two women following them were giving her.

"Am still young by the universe's standards, even though am older than you." She explained.

"Well here in Pantheon, due to some idle god emperor...you know the rest!" Damien hinted.

"Mmmm!" She nodded.

'This woman became as meek as a lamb in front of Damien?' Itetia was shocked.

'Did she fall in love?...oh how I want to fall in love...someone...please fall for me!'

"Oy! Itetia! You will trip and fall!" Rose said.

"Ah!" A startled Itetia directed a dissatisfied gaze towards Rose. She had almost tripped!...and the cause!...Rose had placed her foot in front of her.

"By the way, when will you find a man? Those mounds need a man's touch!" Rose brazenly said.

Itetia jumped when she saw Rose gesturing towards her breasts.

Good thing no one was on the path!

"These shouldn't be touched by anyone! Except someone who truly loves me!" Itetia vehemently shook her head.

"And how are you going to know that someone loves you? Hmmm? Tell me?" Rose pushed.

Itetia was flustered and words were failing her.

"Wha-what..."

"Rose. Shut up. Don't make her uncomfortable!" Damien berated with a monotone voice.

It caused her to pout but ultimately, she left Itetia alone.

The moment they reached the bar, Itetia went back to her job, while Rose remained.

She wanted to always be there when any woman approached or got close to Damien.

"What should I make you?" Damien asked as he once again resumed his bartender role.

"Hah!?" Pearl's eyes had been lost in Damien entirely! She hadn't been taking notice of her surroundings.

She had had a dreamy look in her eyes the whole time earning grumbles from Rose.

Even though Rose didn't fear Pearl, she still didn't want to be on bad terms with her.

"Sorry. What did you ask?"

A blush had faintly appeared on her cheeks but she still didn't avert her eyes from those red ones.

"I was asking what you wanted to drink?" Damien repeated exasperately.

"Did you believe everything she said?" Pearl asked in a small voice. Damien waking her from her fantasies had once again caused a gloomy look on her face. She had even lowered her head so her expression couldn't be seen

The soft light from the candles also didn't improve the situation.

Rose too saw her gloominess but she didn't have any way to comfort her...she also knew that Pearl only wanted Damien's opinion so, she drunk her beer in one gulp.

It was like she wanted to drink away her dissatisfaction.

"I don't care! You laid the story on me during our first meeting! My thoughts then are the same now...I don't care."

Damien said calmly before moving away from the two beauties. Another customer had called on him from another part of the long counter/desk.

"Haaaa...I know you might also had your impression of me drop to the lowest, right?" Pearl sighed before asking.

She hadn't raised her head but Rose knew she was asking her.

'I don't care about you! All I care about is Damien!'

"I can't judge you since I don't know the whole story...but people do even worse things in the universe...scratch that, multiverse. Though it would be better if you simply do the same with Damien, no emotions attached!" Rose said.

What she said at the end made Pearl raise her eyes and turn to her.

"What do you mean?"

"I see the way you looked at him as he dragged your gloomy self here. I hope you don't get attached...I already have competition...if you add yourself, how am I supposed to live?" Rose asked while taking sips in between.

She had at some point refilled her glass. The liquid was a transparent or appeared it was golden from the candle light.

"I know you love him and also know about the others...some haven't yet even figured out their feelings. But you can't stop what the heart wants! I am falling for him even if only a little at a time." Pearl admitted while shifting her gaze towards the other end and looking at the red haired figure mixing a cocktail.

A certain glow had lit up her eyes.

"She's too far gone! Haa..." Rose took a sip while sighing.

'I wonder when I will become a goddess! It is taking too long!' Rose felt as if a burden in her heart was getting heavier. She wanted to break through faster so that she could try to win his heart before all the others!

But she also knew that it couldn't be rushed.

Pearl placed an elbow onto the wooden desk and held part of her cheek in the hand. She was still watching Damien with an unnatural glow in her eyes.

'Am I allowed to fall in love? I abandoned my lover to die without even taking revenge! But this man is simply causing my heart to flutter every time he enters my vision. I can't stop myself from sinking deeper within that apathetic red gaze.' Pearl too was mired in thoughts of her own.

"I don't know this multiple personality thing, so I want you to enlighten me. What is Lino's personality doing inside you right no?"

Pearl asked after seeing that Damien was going to take some time working on the customer.

"She is sleeping. Its as simple as that!" Rose answered while still in her thoughts.

You could tell, just from the way she was staring into her glass intensely.

"Do you think that I will have a shot at Damien's heart no matter how long it takes for my breakthrough?" Rose asked. She was airing out her insecurities.

"You might!?" Even Pearl wasn't sure due to the way her tone changed.

"But you have been with him longer, just like my husband. We spent all our childhood together playing, dating in our teenage years and marrying when we reached adulthood."

Rose's heart skipped a beat, 'Is it okay for her to talk about him? Isn't she going to slip into that gloomy look?'

"Don't worry! I can talk about our times together this calmly due to some growth or maybe, Damien. What upset me was Moon revealing my sexcapades."

"Why did you truly not treasure your body? Do you know that some guys..." Rose didn't finish, but Pearl got the gist of it.

"You've never been faced with the reality of futility." Pearl shook her head.

"When you learn that your fiancee isn't coming back...you can't plot revenge...you can't ressurect him, because...you know...anyone killed by god emperors can't be ressurected by another one. Its like his entire existence is erased from time, except the memories." Pearl talked while swirling her wine glass.

Rose had been fully concentrating on what she had been saying.

"Yes, you are right. I don't know anything. I saw many demented lifeforms and I always wondered why they turned out like that? You see, Damien and I used to operate in the dark side of the moral spectrum...though he did it for justice...well according to the people he saved. But, both you and I know that that wasn't the case. Anyway, we saw many broken minds...some turned into monsters of vengeance, others lost the will to live, while some overcame the tragic event. Damien saw all those sides, just like me. I think you have some similarities to them."

It was Pearl's turn to listen, after which, she turned her gaze back to that red haired figure.

"I think I fell for Damien when I heard his life story, he had been apathetic when he was narrating it to me and I thought, 'Can I get this walking dead to feel anything, maybe I should experiment!'. Hahahah...now I laugh when I think back to it." Rose continued. She too had shifted her posture to stare at that figure.

"When blood appears, he creates more! Something all the others dubbed upon him, but for me I think that blood made mine run faster."
