Chapter 14: A Stranger's Speculation

Something was off.

He’d spent the entire day looking for her and had come up empty handed. The shelter told him she wasn’t due back until next week. The clinic informed him they hadn’t seen her in a few days. The maid who opened the mansion doors told him that Sera left early this morning and had yet to return.

By the time Lonny got back to his penthouse on the South side of the city, he was desperately anxious for answers. Is this how it was going to be? Every time he tried to get close, she was going to disappear on him? He shrugged off his suit jacket, not bothering with the lights as he sauntered towards the floor to ceiling glass windows and looked out at the night.

For someone who’d recently acquired his freedom, Lonny was feeling more trapped than ever. This place felt cold. Another prison, just like the one he’d come from. He was alone. He was without her. How could he convince her to give him a chance? What would it take?
