Confinement

How long had she been here? Sera chanced a glance at the clock. It was almost midnight. 


She rubbed her eyes and looked toward Zane. He’d been quiet for the last hour or so, his focus remained fixed on the large book sprawled out in front of him. She carefully watched him without alerting him that her attention was waning. She let out a yawn and stretched her limbs, feeling the ache there. 


When was the last time she’d gotten a proper night’s sleep? Sera rose slowly to her feet. Zane immediately glanced up at her, his eyes clear and alert. He really was a night owl. 


Sera shook her head, “Just taking a little break.” 


His eyes followed her as she moved around his apartment, landing at the large windows that looked out over the city skyline. 


Zane had to admit, he enjoyed the sight of her looking so relaxed in his home. 


She sighed as she ran a finger down the window pane. Her gaze landed on a looming building in the not so far distance.
