Chapter 16: Manipulations of Madness

The diner was practically empty. It took him only 3 seconds flat to realize Sera wasn’t there. Lonny felt a momentary sense of relief that was short-lived. All confidence flew from him as the young girl at the counter informed him 'the owner' was not here either. Lonny’s heart skipped a beat as he forced the look of rage behind a violently crumbling mask of false calm.

“Sorry, Zane took off early tonight.”

'Zane.' Now he had a name to go with that arrogant face. Lonny smiled tightly at the girl.

He was glad he’d left the sword in his car. He could only imagine she would have called the police on him by now if that wasn’t the case. She was already looking at him with a slight wariness he tried to shrug off.

“We were supposed to meet up,” he lied through his teeth, trying his best to look disappointed.

Keeli frowned with confusion.

“Are you his friend?” she asked with doubt.
