Chapter 17: Mine

The splintering of wood sounded like a firecracker in the still night. Sera and Zane jumped apart, but the damage had already been done.

Standing in the door frame was Lonny. His breathing was harsh, his powerful body shaking with rage, and his eyes…Sera recognized the look at once: betrayal.

She rose quickly to her feet, instinctively trying to block Zane from Lonny’s war path. This move seemed to infuriate her fiancé beyond comprehension. He took a step forward. She took one back.

That was when she noticed the sharp and deadly-looking sword clutched in his trembling hand. She felt Zane slowly stand behind her, but she didn’t dare take her eyes off Lonny.

“How did you find me?” she asked, staring at him as if she’d never seen him before.

His only response was a growl, as his eyes darted past her and landed on Zane.

“You’re gonna pay for that, right?” Zane mockingly questioned, jerking his head towards the door.
