Chapter 27: An Old Friend

“That’s quite the journey you two have been on, huh?”

It’d been hours since they’d arrived at Morvil’s safe space. It’d taken Sera and Zane most of that time to fill him in on everything that’d happened since their original meeting. They dined on succulent stew and hot crusty bread accompanied by a deep red wine that went straight to Sera’s head. As night coated the sky, the three sat at the wooden table of the kitchen, a fire and several candles basking them in a dim and cozy glow.

Sera liked this place very much. Once she’d gotten over her initial shock at finding Morvil to not be some terrifying monster that Zane allowed her to worry about, she actually found herself relaxing. Her eye lids fluttered every so often at the prospect of sleep. Now that she was well-fed and slightly intoxicated, the warmth of the fire was lulling her into a place of half-conscious dreams.
