Chapter 36: The Folly of Fate

Number 1 took a step forward, her eyes gleaming like a creature deprived of all else but the hunt. “You’ve given us a nice little chase,” she went on, “but now it’s time to go home.”

“What do you want?” Sera asked, her body completely still, ready for any sudden attack.

“We,” Number 2 spat with annoyance, “don’t want anything. Just to give you over to the boss and get you off of our hands. We’ve been locked in this damn house for too long already,” he snarled.

“Who is your boss?” Zane demanded.

Number 1 grinned at him with malice, “You’re going to meet the boss very soon. Now I’ll tell you one more time and then things are going to get ugly. You come with us or-”

Sera moved with lightning speed, her aim directed at the Gryi who was a few steps closer to her than the one speaking. He flung her to the side, his claws swiping viciously in her direction.

“I was expecting this,” Number 2 snapped, his teeth gritted together as Number 1 screamed over the ruckus.
