Chapter 35: Moonrise

It was hours before they left the hot springs. Zane insisted on taking full advantage of the night, his wicked tongue and wandering hands making it impossible for Sera to willingly abandon the steamy pool. Only once they were both thoroughly satisfied and pleasantly exhausted did they leave one another’s arms, get dressed and begin their descent back to Morvil’s home.

The moon had risen over the dark of the treetops by the time they entered the forest. The light bathed everything it touched in a surreal and magical way. Sera truly felt as if she’d wandered into some dream, some other person’s life.

Zane held her hand tightly as they made their way through the mystical wood. He kept turning every so often to grin down at her. It made her heart pulse with contentment each time. She’d always considered him entirely too handsome, but to see this side of him, relaxed, happy even— it simply took her breath away.
