Chapter 40: Contender's Cooperation

They stood in front of the dank and rundown looking entrance of the city subway.

Zane smirked to himself as Lonny’s features clashed against the dying sun. The rain would be coming soon. Dark clouds were gathering overhead as the most magnificent sunset they’d ever witnessed disappeared under the horizon. The towering structure of Hastings Apartments stretched across the city skyline

“I can’t believe I agreed to this,” Lonny muttered, his eyes on the filthy and crumbling stairs that Zane began to move down, “I must be insane.”

“Join the club,” Zane quipped. He felt as if he were in a particular position of power, this was his turf. Lonny was out of his element. Besides, Zane had information. He knew things that proved his intimacy with Sera. She wanted him. Not Lonny.

It didn’t really matter, now that Zane knew their marriage was arranged. It gave him even more reason to taunt his adversary with his newfound glory, as well as interest.
