Chapter 41: Tides of Truth

They were silent for a long time. Both Lonny and Zane’s thoughts consumed with the woman trapped at the top of the skyline.

They took their time navigating the desolate streets, always watching for someone, or something in the shadows. Neither were sure how this evening would end, especially with the possibility that they might not survive. But that was a chance they were both willing to take: in the name of freeing Sera.

“You’re hiding something,” Lonny gritted his teeth with frustration as Zane glowered at his side. “You’re not giving me the full story. “

“Neither are you,” Zane shot back, the short threads of his patience fraying with every step. He was consumed with anxiety, his thoughts focused on Sera’s well-being. What was she going through right now?

“I don’t owe you an explanation,” Lonny sneered, switching gears. “You’ve known Sera for what? A week? What makes you think she trusts you?”
