Kayo took a deep breath as he looked over the person in front of him in pity. He could already see through this man's personality prefectly.
' Such a weak and meek personality will never be able to make it through this world. He must've live through following others.
He always wanted to gain something but never got his own hands dirty and now that he was ordered to do so, much more to a child, he's hesitating. '
Kayo rolled his eyes as he begin to walk towards the opposite direction, returning to the path where he came from. Originally, he planned to go through this area and get acquianted with a few people or even join a group.
' However, it seems that 'friend' of mine over there had already spread the rumor about me. Having that kind of rumor around your back in the slums is something akin to a curse.
Most people would tend to avoid you and never get involved with you, but others will see you irritating in the eye and beat you up for entertainment. '
" H-hey wait! "
As the man before was about to grab him by his shoulders, Kayo dodged to the side. He then glanced behind him before calmly saying, " Screw off. "
Within a beat, Kayo began to step away while the person before had yet to react as if what happened still hasn't registered in his mind.
By the time the man regained his senses, Kayo was already 40 steps away. A new found rage suddenly brew inside him. He started taking large breaths as his mind was clouded with anger.
He felt insulted, humiliated. What's more is that everyone around them saw that. He immediately remembered that the group he was part of was also watching and he hesitantly looked towards their direction.
One of the men inside his group made a gesture. He motioned his thumb over his neck as if to slice it. The man before then shivered as all his rage was swept away by fear.
He started sweating bullets as he looked back towards Kayo who was now even further away than before.
' Damn it... I should never had joined his crew... '
The man bitterly smiled as he started to desperately chase after Kayo.
-
While Kayo was walking away, he was still keeping his attention on his surroundings and he confirmed it that almost every knew of his reputation. There was a lot of hateful gazes and eyes that resembles a hyena's.
' Seems that I won't be able to join a groul then. '
He sighed as he began to reminisce about his old body. Though it may be a 3rd-rate one, at least he could guarantee that he can live and defend himself even if it's against a 1st-rate assassin.
Though he may have memorized all the weak points of the human body as well as the techniques to silently excecute more than 10 people at once, it doesn't matter as long as he doesn't have the strength to back it up.
What's more that he's still very unfamiliar with his body, thus unable to fully excecute his techniques. To him, normal humans seem like giants. Kayo knows this very well and that's why he still hasn't used the easiest method to conquer the slums which is through force.
Plus, he had other plans in managing the slums. His first priority would be making an information organization and developing high quality brothels. Those two are extremely important elements in terms of information gathering.
He took a deep sigh as he realize that he had to postpone his plans because of his incompetency.
' With this body and this environment, it would take me 4 years to regain at least 20% of my original prowess. '
As of this moment, he noticed that the man before was chasing him. Kayo sighed as he too ran. The man before was persistent in chasing him, making Kayo feel a little infuriated.
' In the past, I could kill this ant with a flick of my hand and now I have to run away. Tsk. '
As Kayo neared a turn, in the man's perspective, Kayo suddenly diasppeared. He hastened his steps towards the turn only to see that Kayo had indeed disappeared.
The man took a long look around the surroundings and began calling out to Kayo.
" Come out boy! I know you're here somewhere! "
However, he was only answered by silence. He then went to taunt him but it was a futile effort. His irritarion turned into furiousness as he began to search each buildings nearby.
Kayo only smirked at the man as if he was enjoying watching the misfortune of a fool. Kayo was currently hidden at the roof inside the nearby buildings.
Confirming the man to not have any idea where he was, he began to move away.
" Ho, interesting usage of misdirection. What's more is applying it to your whole body. "
Suddenly, an old man's voice came from behind Kayo. Kayo nearly jumped out of shock but his fortitude as an assassin helped him calm down.
He did not face the man behind him but his body was positioned in a way that can immediately head for the best escape route.
Kayo hesitantly asked, " W-who are you? "
[ Warning! Detecting a nearby source of large and dense killing intent, host is suggested to run away, now! ]
' Tsk! If I could, I would! '
Though Kayo tried to hide it, his back still slightly shivered at the sudden release of killing intent.
' Damn it... who is this guy? is he one of my pursuers? '
" I see... you can even sense this, huh. "
The old man's voice was rough but his tone suggested that he was entertained rather than interested.
" I'll ask again, who are you? "
This time, Kayo's voice was much louder and clearer. Kayo was met with silence as he never turned to look at the person behind him.
Though there was no reply, he knows that he was still there. Kayo did not dare to attempt any escape as he knew it would immediately lead to his death if this was an enemy.
' I didn't even notice him coming from behind me... what is this? has my senses gone dull? '
Kayo was wrong. It was not because he had become dull rather, it was because his body was not trained to perceive such things yet. It is true that as long as the body was well maintained for a long time, the body will be able to unlock a 6th sense.
It's not only because of the mentality of the person but also the habitual movements of the body. Right now, his body had yet to properly function the same way as his previous body and so all his habitual movements has been lost.
It is recoverable in time, and Kayo without a doubt, would've been able to sense the old man behind him if it were his previous body. Having realize his problem, Kayo once again sighed.
Suddenly, he began to hear some low mutterings before turning into laughter. Hearing this, Kayo had already began to motion for his escape until his shoulder was suddenly held tightly by a large and rough hands.
" Hahahahaha! You are perfect, boy! "
Suddenly, he was pulled to face the old man. The old man had rough features. A long face and sharp and resilient eyes. He had a beard and short and spiky blonde hair with minimal strands of white hair.
He had a tall and large build and judging by his body and skin condition, he only seemed to be somewhere in his 40s. He had a long scar across his face. He was incredibly well built and his muscles were well trained. Kayo could already tell that an expert was in front of him.
' Judging by the cut, he narrowly dodged a life threating attack specifically aimed at his head. Looking at the size, it seemed to done by a large object.
Hmmm... a spear? no... A sword, probably something similar to a claymore. '
The old man smiled as he thought, ' Look at this kid, analyzing me. '
" Well... did you take a good long look at my handsomeness? "
Kayo's expression immediately turned into displeasure as he stared at the smug smile of the old man in front of him.
' I have to say though, this old man looks pretty good for his age. '
" You're unfamilliar to me. Who are you and what do you want from me? "
The old man smiled once more as he asked in an amused manner, " What do you think? "
Kayo pondered for a while and the old man simply waited for his answer. In a short while, Kayo answered, " Were you the owner of that house? "
The old man smiled wider as he continued, " As well as the clothes and pouch you're holding. "
' Shit. I should've known. '
" Seriously brat, I don't know how you did it. You even detected the hunger incense as well as finding the real drinkable water.
I just put those things to ward off thieves but who would've known that all of those would be passed by not a professional, but a little brat! "
" ...You were watching? "
The old man laughed once more.
" The entire time. "
Kayo felt like losing all the colour in his face as he thought in his mind, ' This man is dangerous. Extremely dangerous. '
The old man seemed amused as he saw Kayo's reaction. Kayo's mouth trembled slightly before softly speaking.
" ....I'll return them. So let me go... "
By this time, The old man was still holding Kayo by his shoulder. The old man looked up as if to think about something before happily replying, " No. "
" B-but why? "
" I don't want them anymore since you wore them. Instead give me something else. " This time, the old man's intentions became much more clear to Kayo.
Kayo shivered as he imagined all sorts of things that the old man will have him do. Escaping was out of the option and all he can do is wait for his fate which was now on the hands of the old man.
Kayo calmly looked at the old man in the eyes before coldly asking, " What is it? ".
This time, The old man's entertained smile turned into a cunning one as he observed Kayo in great detail.
' This child... is perfect. It is worth raising her. '
Meanwhile, Kayo's thoughts were going on something else.
' What will this disgusting old man make me do? Becominf his punching bag or perhaps... his sexual relief? '
The old man leaned in closer to the child as he kneeled down to be face to face with Kayo.
' Damn it... with the way he's looking at me, it's probably the latter... damn you system for bringing me into this! '
The old man's face suddenly turned serious as he began to look into Kayo's eyes with sincerity. The old man then began to speak softly.
" ...Kid, become my child. "
He slightly smiled as he waited for the child's reply, only to be met with an even colder gaze.
" What do you really want from me? "
Kayo's eyes was filled with distrust and even a hint of disgust in face of the old man's sincere gaze.
" Kuh-! "
The old man then suddenly coughed before continuing to unrestraindedly laugh.
" Hahahahahaha! this child- he's perfect! really perfect! You are worthy to be my child! "
After a few minutes, the old man's hearty laugh died down as he looked at the confused child in front of him.
" Listen brat, you don't have a choice and I really do mean what I said. I am willing to adopt you but honestly though, not only did you look at me disdainfully, you even looked at me in disgust!
Haha! This old man had never thought to get that kind of reply in all my life! Countless people beg me to become their teacher much less becoming their adoptive father!
Not only that, but a child of the slums actually dares to refuse an offer from this old man! Haha! It's true! I had seen it all! "
The old man continued to speak his thoughts out loud, not minding the confused gaze of the child in front of him. However, the level of Kayo's suspicion and distrust only became much more higher as it became apparent to his face.
Once more, the Old man laughed as he said to Kayo, " Tell you what kid, I'll promise you everything. House, food, status, money- everything! Only and if only! You promise me to do one thing. "
" So he really is after my body... "
The old man's face suddenly became blank as Kayo unintentionally whispered his inner thoughts. The old man then began to tremblr before roaring in laughter.
" HAHAHAHA! THIS IS- IT'S TOO MUCH! HAHAHA! Y-y-you- hahahahaha! "
Though the old man was acting that way, Kayo noticed that his grip on his shoulder hasn't loosen one bit.
' This guy... who are you, really? '
As the old man began to wheeze for air, he decided to stop and control his laughter. Finally, after taking a deep breath, the old man managed to calm himself down.
" Haaay... brat, you really are- hehe... anyway, no. I'm not after your body. Besides, you're still years away from becoming a considerable beauty to warm my bed!
But really though, I genuinely want to become your adoptive parent. In exchange, I want you to keep your attitude that way. "
As the old man spoke, his tone changed into something more courageous and motivational.
" I want you to promise me that no matter what happens, even if it's the King- or even if it's against the world- you will always remain true to yourself. "
He face Kayo once more and this time, he faced him with his utmost sincerity as he asked.
" Can you promise me that? "
Kayo thought about it for a while before murmuring something. The old man's eyebrows slightly arched as he didn't understand what Kayo said.
" What was that? "
" ....I said I'm a boy! "
The old man then looked at Kayo in disbelief as he closely looked at his face once more.
" ....No way. "
He then motioned his hand on Kayo's groin as if to feel something, only to have have confirmed his disbelief. Kayo in turn, was alarmed and humiliated. Before he could even think about it, His hand had already set in motion to punch the old man in his throat.
Kayo moved quickly that even the old man was surprised but Kayo's punch lacked power. In result, The old man barely felt anything.
" You bastard... are you still not letting go? "
The old man then looked as if he snapped out of his shock when he heard Kayo's voice.
" Nevermind that. Kid, My name is Gerfast Wynett. What's yours? "
" ...Kayo. "
