Chapter 5

" I see, well from now on you're Kayo Wynett. Having been granted by my family name, swear right now to always honour the family and never disgrace it! "

The old man's voice turned solemn as he looked at Kayo. His playful gaze turned into strict and cold as he looked at the boy in front of him.

" ...Understood. I swear. "

Kayo's plain reply made the old man's smile return as he then let go of his shoulder.

" Good. Good. "

The old man nodded as he turned his back on Kayo and brightly told him, " Alright, follow me. "

Swoosh!

However, as he took a to step forward, he felt a fast and swift movement from behind him and as he looked behind, Kayo was no longer there.

The old man blankly look at the empty space for a moment before smiling once more.

" Seriously, kid. With you around, this old man will never get bored. "

-

Leaping from roof to roof, Kayo hastily tried to get away from his previous location. He even made turns that will ensure to misdirext his pursuer.

In other's eyes, he may look like he's doing something unecessary and pointless but he knows that doing this can at least delay the old man.

Kayo never had any intentions of following the old man. He merely humored him in order for him to let down his guard, which he did, resulting in Kayo to be able to escape for a while.

It is true though, the saying he can run but he can't hide. Kayo doesn't know what sort of method the old man is using but he knows that he was still following through his tracks precisely.

As if his efforts of misdirecting the old man was useless.

Eventually, Kayo's weak and underdeveloped body began to strain his mind. Fatigue that though his mind can bear, his body could not. Kayo knows that his body will collapse soon. After all, he had mostly been running for the entire day.

' Damn it... '

Kayo sat to rest underneath an old large sewage canal. It was one of the previous body owner's discoveries in the slums. Because it was old, it was no longer used and so it didn't really have a stinky scent.

Kayo lied his back against the curved walls as he tried to control his staggering breath

" Tsk. "

Kayo clicked his tongue as he felt a presence nearby.

" Huhuhu... tired are you? "

Kayo looked at the entrance of the canal and there he could see the brightly smiling old man looking at him with faacination.

" Yep, yep. I could tell how you managed to throw them off. At first I thought it was just because of your familiarity in this place but that doesn't seem to be the case. "

" You... haa... are... haa... really.... stubborn... old man and those people earlier... were your people? "

Kayo replied without paying attention to the old man's analyzation of him. The old man smirked as he spoke not minding the fact that Kayo changed the subject.

" Of course! I wouldn't be Gerfast Wynett if I wasn't stubborn and yes, those people chasing you earlier was mine. "

" ...Seriously? just for a piece of bread? "

Kayo frowned as he find that reason to be extremely ridiculous. After all, he was sure that he hadn't successfully done any crime before except stealing that bread.

" Unfortunately for you, the owner of that food stall is one of my people. The moment they found something was missing, the others were already alerted and just then they saw a little kid dashing back inside the slums. "

Kayn slightly grumbled as he agreed with him. He was indeed unlucky for having chosen that stall.

" So you ready to come now? "

Once again, the old man put on his bright smile as he extended his hand towards Kayo. Kayo in turn, scowled at him as he smacked away his hand.

" Just don't touch me. "

The old man genuinely smiled even wider as he retracted his hand while Kayo stood up to stand beside him.

The old man then looked around the buildings before speaking to the air.

" Have you disposed of him? "

Kayo wondered who the old man was talking to, until suddenly, a masked person in black tight suit appeared with something on his hand.

" Yes, my lord. "

He then presented a person's head. It was the head of the previous man who was looking for Kayo.

Kayo tilted his head in question while the old man looked at him and snickered.

' Look at him, not even a single bit fazed. '

" Consider it my adoption gift. "

Kayo gave the old man a contemplating look as if to find out what his thoughts were. Seeing as the old man's smile remains unchanged, Kayo sighed as he walked passed the masked person with a human's head in his hand.

" So I'm only worth a head of a small fry in the slums? Didn't know I was that cheap. "

The old man lightly laughed before walking beside Kayo.

" Well, consider it as one of the many gifts that I'm going to give to you. "

" Is that so. " Kayn replied without looking at him as he continued to walk.

-

It was already afternoon by the time Kayo and Gerfast had exited the slums. Before they entered the main road, Gerfast wore a simple white mask that covered his entire face while there were two holes for the eyes. Kayo looked at him but again, ignored it before proceeding to walk with Gerfast.

Gerfast smiled at Kayo's carefree manner and told him his reason for wearing a mask. Whether Kayo seemed curious or didn't care, Gerfast just wanted to talk to Kayo.

" I need this mask in order to hide my identity, after all, A person like me would be inappropriate if Im found within these parts of the kingdom. "

" Is that so... "

Kayo knew for sure that Gerfast wasn't a simple man. After all, there was already the issue of his earlier pursuers as well as the capabilities that Gerfast had shown.

Even though it was afternoon, the main road was still crowded with commoners and merchants. Gerfast lead Kayo through narrow pavements, going through routes with the least amount of people.

Along the way, Kayo found so many new objects, foods, and creatures that bear a starking resemblence to the ones on Earth. Gerfast smiled as he saw Kayo looking left and right as they passed through the main road.

Kayo's earlier pursuers which was Gerfast's people remained hidden and Kayo wasn't particularly interested in them so he didn't ask about them.

Gerfast spent the whole time trying to know Kayo. Asking about him and about the parts of the slums while also explaining things about himself.

Though he didn't say anything directly, he only told Kayo some vague clues about himself such as, " Im a really powerful man, you know? " and " You' re so lucky you met me, me! " He repeated himself twice to emphasize himself.

Kayo most of the time would only answer, " I don't know. " and when Gerfast would speak about himself he would say, " I don't care. ". While Kayo himself didn't ask anything about the old man.

Most of it was because Kayo already knew what kind of person Gerfast was. Though Kayo wasn't knowledgeable about the identities of those who has power and authority in this world, he could still get the gist of Gerfast's identity.

He was someone who who lives with great pride and tends to have a sense of self fulfillment through achievements.

' That's also probably how he got his status or something. '

After some time, They began to travel roof after roof and because of how closely structured the buildings are in the main road, it was easier for them to travel.

Kayo was feeling a little tired as they had traveled for about 40 minutes at best and they seemed to have no signs of stopping.

' This Kingdom is really huge and everywhere I look is filled with people and buildings from the medieval era.

Though they all almost look the same. If it werem't for me remembering distinguishable parts of each district, I would think that we're just going around in circles. "

After traveling some more, they finally met a large wall that seemed to stretch over 100 kilometers and had reached about 10 meters in height.

Kayo smiled as the walls reminded him of something back on Earth.

' Most people would think of the great wall of china or walls from the roman empire, Master would probably think so too. However, being born in a later generation, this walls instrad remind me of a certain anime back in earth. '

Normally, most people would find it hard to cross over such a wall withoit being found but the walls didn't seem to be heavily guarded and the reason for that was what lies behind the walls.

Behind the walls were tall and lavishily designed mansions and neatly arranged pavements. The street trees and garden seemed to be tended to everyday.

Kayn thought, ' If there was a hollywood in the medieval era, it would probably be this place. '

The walls turned out to be a seperation between districts and Kayo could only guess what this place was since the previous owner didn't have any information.

' It should be a district specifically made from nobles. To be exact, it's the noble's territory. Surprisingly though, there are still a lot of commoners in this area. '

The nobles division is a part of the Kingdom in which where most nobles lives in. Naturally, everything in that part of the kingdom was built in high class. Even the streets were spotless. Other than the nobles, rich merchants also live in this part of the kingdom as well as making a huge business out of noble costumers.

Eventually, Kayo and Gerfast passed by many large buildings and mansion along with carved languages in stones that acted as a sign. Kayo naturally didn't have a clue on what they were and it was only because of the boy's memories that he ws able to speak them.

Soon they walked beside a large mansion with a very large front yard that had a neatly crafted stone fances and steel gates. Maids and Butlers could be frequently seen walking and about outside on the front yard while there was two knights standing guard on the entrance.

As they reached the back, it was filled properly trimmed hedges that grew beautiful red roses. Without a warning, Gerfast suddenly grabbed Kayo and jumped over the hedges with ease. What met Kayo was a beautiful garden filled with many beautiful plants that he could not identitify.

' They must have at least over 10 gardeners to keep this place like this. '

The garden spanned over several square meters wide while there were also simple stone pavements that acted as the pathway. Beside the pathway were neatly arranged flowers that seemed to somehow... glow?

' But it's still afternoon? '

Kayo was about to ponder a bit before realizing that he was still on Gerfast's large thick arm. Kayo looked at Gerfast but the latter suddenly became serious. He took off his mask and suddenly, it began to burn from his hands and eventually turned into ashes.

Kayo's eyes grew large as he immediately asked the System.

' System, was that magic? like, Fantasy magic? '

[ Yes. ]

' Can I do that too? '

[ It depends on the host's body stats. Specifically, the MANA stats. ]

' I see... '

Kayo then turned back his attention to the old man who was carrying him.

His earlier pretense as a carefree old man was gone and what appeared in front of him was a great veteran warrior. Several butlers and maid immediately arrived in front of them and bowed.

Gerfast had a cold gaze as a middle aged man came scrambling towards them. He had a similar face like Gerfast's except he looked thinner and much more plain.

His hair was long and prickly, while his body seemed to be smaller and thinner compared to Gerfast.

' Probably his son. ', Kayo thought.

However, this person didn't have the demeanor like Gerfast had right now. He seemed rather timid and frightful but Kayo knew he was something more than meets the eyes.

Kayo remained observing the man in front of him while the latter respectfully bowed to Gerfast before speaking.

" F-father, why did you go through the garden again? also... who is this.... child? "

Kayo immediately noticed the disgust in the man's eyes as he looked at Kayo. Kayo snickered inwardly as he looked back at the man in contempt.
