' This little brat dares to?! '
Eustice felt insulted as he saw the peasant looking child look at him contempt. His eyed twitched as he failed to control his expression. But then he was brought back to reality as he felt his father's cold gaze.
His knees suddenly felt week as his father excuded a neck strangling aura. The servants nearby also felt the same in their master's presence.
" Old man, put me down. "
Suddenly, the ice cold atmosphere was broken down instantly by the simple yet demanding words of a child. Everyone looked at the child in horror as if they could not believe what they just heard.
They immediately looked at Gerfast, afraid of what horror was about to befall upon the child locked in his arm. Gerfast remained unmoved and Kayo became irritated as he repeated himself.
" Oi, old man. Are you deaf or something? I said put me down! "
Kayo in his entire life, had always prided himself as someone that although could not be a 1st rate assassin himself, was still confident he could escape one.
And so, being locked under a man like Gerfast who seemed to only be capable of being a 2nd rate in Kayo's eyes felt insulting. Though Kayo knew that he was much weaker than Gerfast, he was confident that the latter wouldn't really hurt him.
' Besides, he asked for it himself. Stay true to yourself or whatever. '
Once again, after hearing Kayo not only demanded but insulted Gerfast, the people around them could only gasp and be appalled by the child's words.
Some looked at him in pity while the others snickered as they thought that too much of ignorance was a sin.
Eustice too, was snickering himself as he thoight what punishment his strict and ruthless father would give to that ignorant peasant child.
After a few seconds, Gerfast finally moved which cause some of the servants to twitch reflexively out of fear. After all, their master, Gerfast, was known to being prideful, arrogant, cold blooded, and ruthless.
He was awarded with status and honorary mention from the King himself after leading the war against an enemy nation 40 years ago. To this day, Gerfast was treated as a living legend.
After all, who would believe that with a measely amount of 10,000 soldiers would win against 1,500,000 enemy soldiers?
Not only that, but the enemy general was also famed as being one of the greatest generals in history. However, not only did Gerfast challenge him, but also defeated him!
He intelligently maneuvered his enemies by slowly wittling down their numbers as well as making use of the terrain advantages at its fullest. Not only that, but his ability to gain information was unparalled and before the enemy army could even react, irrecoverable damages made by Gerfast and his army was alrady done.
He then earned himself the title of, " The Ruthless General. " as he not only saved no mercy for his enemies, he also did not accept any surrender. He was true to his title, Ruthless.
Gerfast returned home to his nation with the enemy general's head on his hand and was put in a parade for all the citizens of the nation to see. Such a gruesome display earned him not only respect, but also reverance since what Gerfast had achieved was nothing short of a miracle.
And so, though many revered him and even worship him, the servants themselves were afraid because of his capabilities and the natural smell of blood that seemed to have stuck to him for the rest of his entire life.
Gerfast moved his arm and gently put down Kayo before kneeling on his right knee and faced him with a solemn and serious expression. At this time, Kayo knew for sure that this face of Gerfast'swas the real pretense and the carefree attitude he had earlier was the real one.
Though Kayo realized this, he decided not to reveal it and played humored the serious looking old man who was kneeling in front of him. Gerfast also stared at Kayo's eyes which seemed to have seen through everything. Seeing this, Gerfast slightly smiled as he began to speak.
" In witness of everyone around us right now, I announce that this child right here will be my adopted child as well as your master from now on. Do treat him well. "
" ... "
He then stood back up and turned to look at the adult man earlier who seemed to act like the master of the house, Eustice.
" ...! "
It took everyone there some time before Gerfast's words managed to register in their mind, and even if they did, they felt like it was a dream.
However, even then, no one still spoke out except for Eustice. His eyes trembled and his expression turned into shock and disbelief.
" Fa.. father? "
Gerfast had a sneering look that he didn't hide in front of Eustice. He then turned to the child and pointed at Eustice.
" This person will be your older brother from now on. While he is acting as the current head of the Wynett family, he isn't competent enough to inherit neither the house affairs or my title.
Though I thought his son, my grandson, would be better but in their influence, he isn't up for the task. "
With Gerfast blatantly putting out their house affairs with no reserves, it was as clear as day to evryone on what Gerfast was implying here. Though the servants knew that the current acting head, Eustice, the second son of Gerfast, was lacking in terms of both resolve and wits of " The Ruthless General. ".
He was also known for being a coward for never having entered the battlefield once while his older brother, Leo Wynett, died for the sake of serving his country on the battlefield.
Leo Wynett and Eustice Wynett were polar opposites. Leo was courageous and bright. Talented in every aspect, he was assumed to be the same if not, greater than " The Ruthless General ".
While Eustice on the other hand, was lazy and prideful. He hated working hard and was incompetent in terms of both studies and swordplay. He even had the fame of a debauchee.
Even if Gerfast didn't want to play favourites between his sons, It was as clear as day to everyone on whom will be inheriting his position. However, it seemed that the two brother had a harmonious relationship so he let it be.
By the time the brothers had reach adulthood, Leo entered the battlefield and followed his father's footsteps while Eustice surrounded himself with women and wine.
Sadly however, Leo lost his life on the battlefield without having the chance on recovering his corpse. However, whether having died on the battlefield or dying out of conspiracy remained unknown.
This was already 5 years ago, The bright and young prodigous Leo Wynett, was reported to have passed away on the battlefield. At that time, Gerfast threw a fit rage and turned the entire Kingdom upside down.
The reason was they couldn't conduct an investigation due to not having been able to retrieve his corpse. Gerfast was both angered and infuriated at the same time for not having been able to take revenge for his son.
In a fit of rage, he commanded his army and was about to declare war against the nation that his son fought however, the King barely managed to stop him. At that moment, Gerfast swallowed his anger and kept it as if similar to sharpening a sword.
He vowed to take revenge, even if it's the last thing he does. Ever since then, Gerfast had a cold aura around him. As if he had sealed his heart.
" Father..? "
This time, Eustice could not believe what he just heard. His father blatantly insulted him in front of many people. Not only did he not save his face, but also completely destroyed whatever image he had tried to put up now.
It was no brainer that soon, this issue will spread amongst the servants and even reach his noble acquaintances. In reality, Eustice didn't really care for Gerfast's harsh words since he himself admits to that. However, the fact that the entire noble society will hear it enraged him to no end.
He felt like he had no place to put his face in, though everyone know that he was a disgrace to his father. Up until now, His father never deliberately admitted it and so his noble acquaintances still put up with him and gave him respect.
But now, seeing that his father look at him with disdain while also announcing his incompetence. Eustice felt enraged but also ashamed. Too ashamed to ever show his face to those he called friends.
Just the thought of everyone openly laughing at him crushed his heart. Up to this day, he had somehow managed to pull through since they never really showed their disdain in front of him.
He felt ruined, abandoned and many more negative feelings crept up inside him. Unt he then saw the bored looking child beside his father.
' You! It's all because of you! How dare you get involve with us! why did you even get born into this world?!
Why ddid father choose you, a peasant child, rather than me?! Am I really no better than an outsider in his eyes?! It's all your fault! it's all because you're alive! '
Finally, with a target of his rage, he looked at the child with an enraged and crazed look. Not even bothering to hide his bloodlust, he openly stared at Kayo with bloodshot eyes.
[ Detecting a dense killing intent directed at Host. Please take caution! ]
Kayo inwardly rolled his eyes as he read the system message.
The servant shivered in fear as they felt a dense killing intent brewing inside Eustice. Kayo on the other hand, didn't look bothered at all. In fact, he looked bored and sleepy.
This infuriated him further to the point of coughing blood. His hands trembled, his nails digging into his flesh. He tried his hardest to stop himself from strangling this child in front of his father.
" Servants, take Kayo to the bath and renovate the room beside mine. It will be his bedroom from now on.
You can be rough with him. He's not one to follow after all also, assign him a personal servant too. I expect to see him at dinner time."
" ...Yes master. "
They bowed and dragged Kayo away. Kayo wanted to protest but the maids moved too fast and before he could speak, he was already several steps away from Gerfast and Eustice.
After the servants dragged Kayo away, the only ones left at the garden was Gerfast and Eustice. Gerfast suddenly spoke to the air.
" Buy him clothes. I want the best ones. Doesn't matter how much. "
" Yes, my lord. "
A reply came somewhere from the garden before the scene turned silent once more. It was already dusk and the garden seemed to be enchanted by the setting sun. It was a beautiful scenery except for the two men who remained there and excuded a cold atmosphere.
After sometime, Gerfast walked passed Eustice as he told him in a cold voice, " I'll see you at dinner. "
Eustice slightly trembled before slowly turning to see his father's back walking away.
' I don't know what you old bastard are planning, but whether you like it or not, I WILL inherit- no, TAKE everything from you!
Your status, your wealth, your grandchildren, and even your life! '
A cold glint appeared on Eustice's eyes. His clenched knuckles relaxed and his expression turned into an unfeeling one.
' If I can make Leo, your most prized possession, disappear. Then what can I, Eustice Wynett, cannot do?! What do I dare not to do?! '
The appearance of the child once again flashed in his mind.
' Kid, it is your misfortune to have met me. I swear I will make your life miserable! '
-
As Kayo was stripped and forcibly thrown into the bath. Two maids went in with him as they helped clean their new young master.
Kayo was cooperative during the process since he himself felt like being cleansed after being put in a garbage pit. One massaged his head while the other removed dirt from his long hair.
Though the maids were quiet the whole time, they could not help bit tremble as they felt the young master's body. Malnourished and thin. They felt pity and wanted to ask where he came from but decided not to since it might be rude.
After being cleansed in a bath, he was brought clothes that surprisingly fit him. He wore a dark green tunic and black trousers.
' They couldn't have prepared this in that short of time. Come to think of it, Gerfast did say that My supposed older brother has a son. Is this his then? '
By the time all the preparation was finished Kayo finally managed to see himself in the mirror and for the first time, he finally saw his own appearance.
He had a long silky black hair that measured to his waist. His eyes were sharp and his eyebrows were thin and sharp like a sword. His nose small and his mouth was small and plump. Not to mention his pale complexion, he really did look like a doll.
' No wonder.... I really do look like a girl! An adorable one at that! '
He could not help but admire his look. The same went for the two maids that were with him. They too, looked proud as they discovered a gem inside a rock. Kayo's new look was incredibly entrancing and the two maids could continue admiring it for a whole day.
However, because of his malnutrition, his attractive face didn't seem complete as his cheeks were thinning inwards.
After looking at his face for quite sometime, the maids that were with him slowly spoke that it was time to bring him to dinner.
" I'll go but first, cut off my hair. "
The two maid gasps in surprise as they looked at the young master in horror.
" I-isn't it fine the way it is, Young master? "
" Yes, young master already looks perfect! "
" No, cut it off. Now. "
They tried to persuade the young master but under his commanding tone, they could not help but follow. Fortunately however, as they were about to grab the scissors, someone knocked on the door.
" The Master has requested for the young master, Kayo to be brought to dinner immediately. "
A voice of an elderly woman came from the other side of the door and the two maids sighed in relief as they once again, dragged the young master to the door.
