The distance from the driveway to the house wasn't very long. It was only a few steps but a drama queen sister who disapproves at how small the house it is a forever walk.
"I am just saying Tian, the place could at least have been bigger," she complained and as usual I am forced to listen to her. I don't mind her complaints, I am used to them. Bella is a very picky girl and she always finds one flaw or the other in everything but I'm sure that after a few days she will calm down about the size of the house and then my ears will have some rest.
"Why are you quiet. Say something," she demanded and I had no choice but to contribute to the conversation and comfort her. The minute I opened my eyes to speak the front door opened and out came a woman who I assume to be our aunt Meredith.
"Hello," she greeted pulling Bella inside the house and giving her a tight hug. "You have no idea how happy I am to see you," she says to Bella.
I bring the luggage inside and wait for her to be done with my sister before I greet her. She breaks the hug and turns towards me. "And you must be Chr..." she began to say but stopped midway and looked at me like she was looking at a ghost. Her face went pale and she took a step back from me her body trembling severely.
"Aunt, are you okay?" Bella and I asked in unison. I moved forward to try and help her stabilize herself but she avoided my touch and moved away from me. She moved back in a hurry and tripped on the carpet and I ran to catch her before she hits the ground.
I caught her in my arms, she stared at me for a minute and fainted. Confused at what just happened and worried about her condition I carried her to the sofa and laid her down.
"What happened to her Tian?" Bella asked me but I too had no clue why our aunt reacted like that towards me. And I am worried about her, she seemed terrified of me for some reason. I glanced at her carefully from head to toe trying to recollect if I have ever seen her before but nothing came to mind.
"I don't know but I don't think that we should just leave her in this condition. You have uncle's number right?" I asked her and she nodded. "Call him and tell him what happened. In the meantime I will get our things inside," I added and went to take our luggage upstairs.
I cast a spell to locate the guest rooms that aren't being used and arranged Bella's things in one room and my things in the other room. By the time that I am done, I make my way downstairs. I heard voices in the living room and stopped to listen.
"I swear it was him, Tom, just like he was," my aunt said to my uncle.
"It can't be and you know that. Perhaps you imagined it," my uncle replied to her.
"But he was real and he was right here," my aunt tried to put up an argument but lost to my uncle's persistence that she was hallucinating.
I walk into the room silently not to disturb them. "Hello," I greeted both of them as I entered the room. They both turned around to look at me and I gave them the best smile that I could master. I didn't want a repetition of what happened with aunt earlier to happen again.
They both froze in shock, I looked around me thinking that it for some other reason but it wasn't. It was me that they were both looking at, my aunt started shaking once again and this time even my uncle joined her.
"Is something wrong?" I asked confused as to why they were acting so strangely towards me.
"Yo...you are.."
"I am what?" I inquired beginning to panic inside.
"You are dead," she said and I froze. Did she just call me dead? But I am standing right here then how is it possible that I am dead?
"Ky..kyle," she called out to me and my whole body tensed up. The name she used to call me was the last identity I had before I became Christian. But how does she know me, I understand her recognizing me since in all my life I always have the same face but from where does she know me.
"W...who is Kyle?" I asked my voice trembling at being discovered. This is the first time I met someone from my past life after being reborn and have them recognize me. But for the first time, my cursed memory is failing me as I can't think of where I met her or who she was to me.
"No one," my uncle said getting up from the floor. He came to me and embraced me in a tight hug. The hug felt warm and it eased my nerves a little bit. "Welcome home. And don't worry about what your aunt said she is just a little on edge today," he explained.
She helped my aunt upstairs and I headed to the kitchen to start making dinner. I get all the ingredients from the cupboard and placed them on the table and got to work. While working I listened carefully to the conversation that my aunt and uncle were having upstairs with my super hearing.
"Did you see, I was not hallucinating. He is real," she said.
"Yes, I saw him but he is our nephew Christian and not Kyle."
"How sure are you that he isn't Kyle. He could be him in disguise," she stated not giving up the idea that I could be Kyle.
"But that is impossible. We both attended Kyle's funeral then how can he be here today. And let's say that he is Kyle and you are right, then how come he hasn't aged a day?"
"Vampire," she said and I coughed at her imagination. She must be making stories up on her head but I can't say that she is that far from the truth.
"That is impossible," he replied.
"Why is that impossible. This entire town is infested by them. Werewolves, vampires, and witches ran this town and you know it. So Kyle can be a vampire," she explained and I listened keenly.
"I agree that there is a possibility that he could be a vampire but we shouldn't jump to conclusions. We should give him a chance," he said to her.
"But our children stay here Tom. What will become of them if we keep them in the same house as a vampire?"
"I have an idea. Why don't we test to see if he is a vampire first before jumping to conclusions," he said and I turned off my super hearing and concentrated on making the food. I made fried rice and fried chicken and served them on the table.
"Bella, the food is ready. Call aunt and uncle," I instructed as I set the utensils on the table and proceed to get some mango juice and wine for the adults and get everything set.
The main door opens and two bickering teenagers come into the house. From there the resemblance to aunt and uncle I assume that they are the children from their discussion.
"The food is ready, freshen up quickly and come eat," I say to them and get my phone out to check my messages.
"Are you our cousin from the city?" asked the boy walking to the dining table and taking a seat. I nod my head and reply to my mother's message confirming our safe arrival.
"What did you get for us from the city?" asked the girl in a cheery voice. I kept my phone aside and glanced at the two of them.
"My name is Christian. And you?" I asked them.
"I am Grace and he is Gabe. Now answer my question, what did you get for is from the city?"
"It's in your rooms," I said, and without waiting for me to continue they both rushed up to their rooms. I cast a spell from under the table to what they truly desire to appear on their beds.
"Ahhhh," I heard coming from upstairs and footsteps rushing to see what was wrong. It takes half an hour for everyone to come down to have their food.
"When may I ask did you have time to buy gifts for the two of them," Bella questioned and I ignored her and pulled her chair out for her to seat on. "I mean I am even surprised you have time from all the daydreaming you do," she added but I still ignored her.
"Thank you, Chris," they said in unison and I gave them a thumbs-up as my mouth was full. I went ahead to have my food but my aunt's eyes never once looked away from it. She was looking at me with recognition in her eyes but sadly I couldn't return her the same look. I have forgotten who she is to me.
Dinner gets done and everyone leaves the table. I pick up the dishes hoping to do the dishes but my aunt stopped me by holding my hand. The moment she held my hand my eyes glowed red. I quickly withdrew my hand from her and left the room before she saw the changes in me.
"How is that possible?" I asked myself running upstairs.
