The front door of Salvadora's house opened. She and her brother came inside quietly. They both were confused, wondering what their parents would say?
Were they really the clues of this mystery, or maybe someone dangerous was directing them towards their parents? But why? Neither of them had a hint of what their parents would tell.
"What do we do now? Just simply ask them that why their name was written on that card?" Asked Sam wondering what to say.
"Sometimes, I think I should just simply tell them about this mess, but I know that I can't freak them like that," said Salvadora in a serious tone.
Both of them were terrified. Sam was living in total denial, he was sure that it wasn't their parents, he wanted to believe it so badly.
Sal wasn't sure. She also wanted to believe that, but something in her kept teasing her that wasn't true.
"I think we should start with a normal conversation, I don't really think that the names were of our parents, I mean there could be other Silvertons, the world is pretty big. They could be from anywhere," said Sam unsure.
"And what if it is?" Salvadora asked.
"I don't know Sal, that's why we are gonna ask our parents if there really is something, then we'll get the hint," they both were scared, the truth can be really scary sometimes.
Deep down they just wanted to hear that their parents weren't involved. But their fate had different plans for them.
He continued, "Okay, here is my plan, we will just start talking about that house indirectly in front of mom and dad, it won't be awkward."
"Sam, we will pick something else, it's not a good suggestion and besides we don't know much about it either," said Salvadora.
"But it's a good idea, my persuading skills are better than yours," said Sam in his defense.
"Okay then. Sam, don't be frightened, Truth has bad breath at times. Just know, I'm there for you," Salvadora said as she hugged him.
"Yeah, me too. After all, I think it wouldn't be that bad," said Sam hoping that to be true.
They both started having a fake argument and their parents watched them as they entered the living room.
"What's the need, huh?" Sal shouted.
"You know the nee..." before Sam could complete it, their mom shouted, "You both stop fighting! What's the matter by the way?" she asked.
"It's nothing mom, just some stupid sibling argument," assured Salvadora.
"Really? it doesn't look like, to me," Alaric said suspiciously.
"You should definitely tell me, or else you two are gonna fight endlessly," her mother scolded.
"Okay. So, the thing is, we got a project to research on any monument or some kind of old place. So, we're thinking to visit the old bungalow in the woods. If we…" Sam didn't even get a chance to complete his sentence.
"NO WAY!" their mom snarled as she cut his sentence with her words which were sharp as a knife.
Both of them were kind of shocked by her reaction, it was surely a murderous place, but they were just talking about it. Their mom didn't know about their secret trip after all.
Sam wondered if any other parent would also react the same way.
"You're not going to do any kind of research on that bungalow," Salvadora and Sam could see the horrified expression on their mother's face.
"What happened, mom? Why you got angry all of a sudden?" asked Sam scared.
"Children, go to your room and forget about the research in the devil's residence, there's no need to go there. Even if there was, I won't let you, period."
"But mom…" their mom again interrupted the sentence in between and cried, "People have died there! Don't you understand?"
Sal was controlling herself until now, she really didn't get it. 'Why her mom has to be so rude? Enough is enough,' she thought. So, she unleashed all her anger out.
"We do, but we're not the owners. We just want to do some damn research! You could have simply said no, but instead, you're treating us like some criminals!" Salvadora was really irritated by her mother's melodrama and so she shouted back.
A dreadful silence took over the place. They had never seen their mom so angry. Something was definitely wrong here.
For some time, nothing made sense to them. Both of them were lost in their mind and escaping it was, impossible.
They kind of guessed what could be the reason behind their mom's reaction, but they didn't want to accept it. They got the hint they didn't want to get.
Sometimes, truth is really hard to accept. Something they didn't want to hear, something they can't imagine, something even worse.
"Enough of the shouting. Rose, I think they deserve to know the truth, they are big enough," said dad calmly, knowing how things can get worse if he wouldn't take a smart move.
"What mom? What are you hiding from us?" asked Sam eagerly.
Sam took a deep breath, he thought he was ready for it. But of course, he wasn't.
No one can be, even if you are, you don't know it.
"Okay Ric, I do think that too. It's better if they know. Children, you are gonna learn a lot of things about your family, I hope you both have enough time because it's a long story," said their mom.
"Yeah, we sure do," they both said in unison.
"So, be ready tomorrow, you guys are gonna learn a lot of strange things."
This night was going to be the longest one, it was harder than they expected.
Sam wasn't able to sleep at all. He was so eager to know what were their parents hiding from them.
On the other hand, Sal didn't want to know the truth. She was really scared to hear what her mom was going to tell.
Her stomach ache wasn't going away, and headaches? they were planning to stay with her forever.
