Air Temple Island(7)

The next day the council stated that Tarrlok will take a leave of absence because of some personal issues. After some debating, we found it best to keep the news from the public. Blood benders are seen as forces of evil and now, more than ever we need to show that we are strong. A blood bender infiltrating the leadership of the city would help the Equalists movement gain more traction than it already has.

Back on Air Temple Island team avatar was training. Korra was silently meditating while the rest of us were sparing. After such a long time I finally managed to teach Korra how to clear her mind.

I was sparing with Asami, teaching her chi blocking, she had a lot of natural talent for martial arts and in the short time, I've been teaching she got the basics down. In my opinion, the basics for chi blocking are the hardest to learn and even harder to master, the rest was easy in comparison. At first, I didn't have much hope for her but now I was seriously debating if I should make her an angel, she had the skill but I didn't know if she would be open to the idea considering almost all of the angels were part of the Equalists.

"Let's take a break."

I toss her a bottle of water and I sit next to her.

"Look Asami, what's your opinion on Angels?"

"They are very skilled fighters, each one can fight on equal footing with a bender if they had your equipment they would be unstoppable."

"Ok... What I wanted to ask was what do you think about the ideal behind them?"

"I'm not sure, all I heard were rumors, but from what I understand they are this city's greatest defenders, they fight for the people with unwavering determination. While the idea behind them was good they are nothing more than glorified thugs that work for Amon now. No offense I know that you care about them."

"None taken, I know that they aren't what I imagined them to be, and that is entirely my fault, there is nothing I can do now, when all of this is over I will be able to bring them on the right path."

"Do you think you will be able to do it?"

"I'm sure I can, I've trained all of them personally, I forged both their bodies and minds to have one goal and one goal only, protect this city, protect the freedom of its inhabitants, rise above the constraints of the law and strike the enemy of the people with overwhelming strength and no mercy. The problem is that I created a monster and I gave its leash to a madman. Without a good moral compass, how can they function properly? Now I want to ask you if you want to join me and help make the Angels what they were meant to be, a shield that protects the people of this city."

"Are asking me to become an angel too?"

"Yes, I want to make you an archangel, I want to form a council of great minds that love this city, that will lead its most frightening force in the battles to come. Will you join me?"

"Will you trust others deciding in your place? Will, you be able to share your secrets with them?"

"I will trust them, I will not lie to them, I will do my best to support the decision they will make. This is what I promise you! But, Asami, be careful, there are some things I can't tell because if they are found out too early they will cause catastrophes if you truly want to know those things I can tell you but they will make you question your very existence."

"Stuff like the fact that Tarrlok was a blood bender and so is Amon? Or how you made Tarrlok so scared?"

"Yes, and much more, I can't explain it to you just yet, because there are bigger things at play than you, and that need to happen, entire cultures that will die or be reborn depending on the path we take."

"... Ok, then I'll ask you something that's not related to it. Is there something between Mako and Korra?"

I take a good look at Asami and I start to assess the situation. It's a sensitive subject, it wasn't necessarily Mako's fault at first but I knew he didn't tell her about what happened so it became his.

"As far as I know they aren't doing anything behind your back, there was a kiss but never went beyond that."

"When?"

"After the quarter-finals. It was a very awkward moment for both of them. Is there a reason you are asking me this?"

"You knew I didn't know right?"

"..."

"Answer me!"

"Yes, do you want me to tell the reason I didn't tell?"

"Before you say anything I want you to know that I don't blame you, you were put in an awkward position and I can understand, it's just that I'm so mad! AH!"

"I know you are and all I can you is the truth and only the truth will you accept?"

"Yes, please tell me, I know you had a good reason, I don't think you are the kind of person to just walk away as nothing happened so I want to know why, why you did something that's so out of your nature."

"I'm sorry to tell you but there isn't a reason you will understand, let's just say at the time I was too afraid to change things too much, quite hypocritical of me if I might add since I already changed quite a lot, to begin with. You would have eventually found out from Bolin while the team would have been searching for Korra's whereabouts after her battle with Tarrlok."

"How would I have found out from Bolin?"

"You would have seen how concerned Mako is about finding Korra, you asked Bolin about it and since he was never a good liar under pressure, well he might have slipped this little piece of info. This reminds me, we should take a group of policemen and the team to attack an equalist hideout tonight."
