Chapter 2

I was sitting in the window drawing a picture of the trees outside when a knock on the door brought me out of my thoughts. As I opened the door I saw that it was my uncle that stood in the door. "You know there is life outside these walls," he said.

Mia looked at him and walked with him to the kitchen. "I know but dad always made it seem that it was really dangerous out there," Mia said. The man drew a deep breath and said, "I really wish your dad didn't raise you to be afraid of this world."

"What is wrong with being an afraid uncle?" Mia asked. "You're missing out on many things Mia, like games and sports, making friends seeing place instead they isolated you. Sure you finished school and they made sure you were trained but they forgot to enjoy life," her uncle siad.

"Your version of enjoying life and their version of enjoying life is different. I remember them fighting but we always enjoyed doing things together, sometimes we would camp out under the stars and dad would teach me how to read the stars," Mia said.

"I see that as training and not having fun but seeing as you don't know what a tv is I suppose they found different ways to keep you busy," her uncle said. "I'm not used to all this technology, the tv hurts my ears and the loud music in the club next door keeps me awake at night. The computer screen makes my eyes tear and all the lights in this house are giving me headaches. How is that fun?" Mia asked.

Her uncle looked at her and said, "your father trained you to use your power but you never learned how to handle these things. You should be able to choose when you want to hear the clubs music, your eyes should be able to adjust between the light and the computer shouldn't be a problem." he said.

"Does that mean I am not a normal human," Mia asked. "No but it means we need to do some test to see how we can help you," her uncle said. Mia spends the day drawing while her uncle was at his work but that evening he brought a young lady home with him.

"Mia this is Lilly she is one of the youngest people on my team and I want her to stay here with you for a while. Help you settle in and teach you how to control your powers so that a tv, light and music doesn't bother you," he said.

Mia looked at her uncle and noticed there were more people behind him. "You're going somewhere aren't you?" Mia asked. "Yes for work and I might not be home tonight so Lilly will be here with you and tonight two of her brothers will stay here as well," he said. "What if those men show up?" Mia asked worriedly.

Don't worry Mia they won't but in case they do, Lilly is here to help and please do not forget she might not be able to handle the alarm," he warned Lilly at the same time. "Wait what alarm?" Mia asks.

Her uncle shakes his head and told Lilly, "you see what I am dealing with," he told Lilly. She only seemed to smile and siad, "I will do what I can to help her," she said. Mia watched the group drive off.

"Now, let's get started shall we," Lilly said. "Started with what?" Mia asked. "Training what els," Lilly said. Mia looked at Lilly and wondered what was going to happen now.

Mia was about to start drawing again when Lilly switched on the tv. "What are you doing?" Mia asked. "I told you we were going to do some training and we need the tv for that," Lilly said.

"I don't like the tv," Mia complained. "I know your uncle told me but it's the best invention on the planet," Lilly said. Mia was forced to train with Lilly but as the day went by. Lilly realised Mia had no interest in the tv and soon had an idea when she saw Mia's nature drawings. "I know where you can get more ideas to draw," she said.

"Where I have been all over this place and I believe I have drawn everything," Mia said. Lilly showed Mia a nature program and said, "there are tons more on the computer if you want I can show you," Lilly offered.

Mia was hooked and soon found a way to control her hearing and how to control her vision. Then one day she realised she wasn't getting sick anymore and Lilly's alarm to wake her brothers weren't bothering her anymore only now Lilly has to wake her up in the mornings two.

Mia was making her way to bed one evening when she heard a familiar voice outside her window. She carefully and slowly walked to her bedroom door and slowly left her room. Taking a deep breath she realised who the men were and that they were in trouble and big trouble since her uncle isn't home yet.

Mia moved as quietly and quickly as possible and almost gave Lilly a heart attack. "The men they are here," Mia said. Lilly's brothers stood up and looked at Mia, "are you sure it's them?" they asked. "Yes, I heard them it's the same voice I heard before," Mia said and suddenly a window broke.

Mia looked at Lilly's brothers and asked, "you do have a plan for this?" she asked. "Yes, and you're not going to like it," Lilly siad. "Why what is the plan?" Mia asked. "This is the plan," one of the brothers said as he pressed a button. An alarm went off and Mia went down to the floor holding her ears.

Lilly touched Mia's hands and told her to follow her. They ran to an escape tunnel she knew very well and one her brothers has been using. Even though the tunnel was dark Mia felt the need to keep running. Lilly stopped and looked at her brothers. "Do we take her to our home or join the team," Lilly asked.

Mia heard the men running after them and Mia decided to take matters into her own hands and ran down a random tunnel. She came to stop at a gate that was locked and looked around but found no way around it.

"You are not a big team player are you?" Lilly asked. "The men are on our trail and your choosing now of all places to talk," Mia said. Lilly realised her mistake and looked at her brothers who started to open the lock on the gate and as soon as they threw. They locked the gate again but the thieves were already behind them.

"Mia come dear your father is calling you," the men siad but Mia didn't respond to the men. She knew her father and her father was the one that trained her. She went with Lilly and her brothers without saying a word.

The brothers opened a big door and Mia found it a bit too bright for her eyes. "How did you know the men were trying to fool you?" Lilly asked. Mia looked at her and said, "because I was trained by my father."

"That doesn't mean anything to us, Mia. What do you mean by your father trained you?" Lilly's brother asked. Mia looked at the wall of pictures and saw her fathers picture. "He is my father and he trained me," Mia said looking at the photo.

Lilly took a step back and asked, "so your father trained you at more than just how to control your powers," Lilly asked. "Yes but as you can see I am finding it difficult to stay here," Mia said.

"Do not worry it will get better soon, I promise," Lilly said. They didn't have to wait very long until a door flew open. Out of all the places you brought her to you chose this place, the woman shouted."

Mia studied the woman for a while and looked at the wall. "It wasn't our idea she just ran," the brothers siad. "Sir did say if the alarm goes off she might be unpredictable," Lilly said.

"You haven't gotten her over that yet," the woman said in disgust. "Now I know why my dad kept me away from the world," Mia said out loud and Lilly looked shocked at Mia.

"She is the vice director you know, you do need to show some respect," Lilly said. "To receive the respect you have to earn it, that's what my father always said," Mia said looking at the woman.

Just as the woman was about to lose her fiery temper the doors opened once more and in came her Uncle. "Your niece needs to learn some manners," the woman siad. "What did she do?" he asked.

"Apparently I chose to run down the wrong tunnel when men found a tunnel they were not supposed to know about in the first place. I saw the brothers close that door tell me how is it possible they knew the evacuation route?" Mia said.

Lilly looked shocked at Mia and said, "now that you mention it, it's like someone gave them the plans to your uncles home," Lilly siad. "We drove our car back and forth every day, they shouldn't know where that tunnel is," one of the brothers asked.

"That's why my father said the world is a dangerous place," Mia said. "He should have thought you how to handle it not how to run from it," her uncle said.

"Just remember if an animal is cornered it can become unpredictable," Mia said. "What is that supposed to mean?" the woman demanded. Mia heard to tunnel gate open again and heard the men coming through. She looked around and realised someone in the room was a traitor.

Mia turned her back to her uncle and took a step back slowly. Her uncle was puzzled for a moment until he saw the men walking into the room.
