Mike stared at Sam in disbelieve and asked, "are you sure it's all her gear?" Sam looked at Mike and said, "yes, I am sure Mike. Some of the gear is still brand new. Your sister was still working for us but at a different branch. That's what I believe," Sam siad.
Mia looked at the two big snow-white trucks and said, "mom and dad were always so carefull. I can not believe that they are missing," Mia said. "Right let's unload the trucks and see what we have to work with," Mike siad. Mia started to unpack her family's belongings and found her parents really didn't gather a lot of things over the years.
There was a brown corner lounge suite. A simple coffee table, a dining table with six chairs. One double bed, the other two got destroyed in the fire. Two bedside tables, a dressing table with an antique mirror. For some of her parent's clothes, she was surprised to find that her mother owned quite a few evening gowns and a lot of really pretty jewellery. Her father had left his watch with her mother's jewellery and to her surprise, she found all her clothes and all of her artwork.
Mia looked at the gear her mother had left behind. A white double cab truck with emergency lights on top. There was also a trailer that could carry almost anything but what surprised Mia was all the safety gear in the back of the truck.
"I never even knew my mom had so much gear," Mia siad. "Your mom was the best in her field. She could mountain climb, horseback riding. I believe at some point she even did sea rescues. I do know your mom was a very good dog handler but when she married your father and she lost her dog in an accident. It was decided that she would wait before getting another one," Mike siad.
Mia looked at all the gear in the back of the truck and said, "I suppose the first thing I need to do is get a licence for the truck?" Mia siad. "Yes and then we need to start training you," Mike said. They were still checking all the gear when a man came rushing to them. "What is your sister's truck doing here of all places?" the man asked.
"I am sorry to be the one to tell you but she and her husband went missing a few weeks ago," Mike said. "How is that even possible?" the man asked. "I dont know but as far as I know they were ambushed," Mike said.
"How is that possible? Your sister was one of our best," the man siad. Mia noticed the man wasn't even asking about her. She wondered if the man even knew her mother had a daughter. The man looked at Mia and asked, "so who are you to them? It must be your fautl they are gone?" the man asked.
"You can not blame her for what happend," Mike said. "Why not, you know young lady it's wrong to steal from others," the man shouted. "I didn't steal anything, they are my parents that's why I have their things," Mia siad. "Nonsense, John and his wife had no children. If he had we would have known," the man siad.
Mia looked at her uncle Mike who had an unreadable expression on his face. "My sister had a daughter, this girl is their daughter. I have seen the evidence," Mike siad. "Well, your sister said she had no children so I will be taking all her gear and her stuff to storage. You will only be able to claim it if her case has been closed," the man siad.
"But i am there daugter," Mia siad. "Girl stop lying, your nothing of them. In fact, you should stop lying to these people. The only reason you here is because you are using them," the man siad. Mia had tears flowing down her cheeks as she watched the men remove all her parent's stuff. She looked at her uncle who had an expression she didn't like.
Mia couldn't handle the building and go for a hike deep into the nearby forest. She knew what she was doing was dangerous. Anyone could ambush her and no one would even miss her but right now she didn't care at all.
Mia found a hidden waterfall and decided to do a little training. She practised with the water for hours hearing her fathers words over and over again. "Mia I know you can do better," he used to say but right now she didn't care. She moved her body and her hands to create a stream of water in the air when she heard hands clap.
"Girl you should go home, you do not belong here," the man siad. Mia looked the man in the eyes and said, "I will leave as soon as I found a place to stay. Since I am not allowed to stay with my uncle and you do not believe that I am family, but in case you didn't know I dont have anywhere else to go," Mia said.
The man quietly left the waterfall and a few hours later the sun was setting over the forest. Mia decided to try and get back to her Uncle before it got too dark. As she made her way down the man stood waiting with the police for her. "There is the thief, she stole John and his wife's stuff and I suspect she knows where John and his wife was taken," the man said.
Mia was too exhausted to fight run from the police and so they took her to jail. There they interrogated her the whole night until the sun rose the next morning. Mia stuck to her story that John and his wife were her parents and that they disappeared. Leaving her in a shelter with the words that she needed to go to her uncle.
Mia found herself standing trial for stealing from her own parents. The judge didn't believe that her parents had any children but she ordered a DNA test anyway. The DNA test confirmed what Mia had been saying all along. The judge called Mia into her office and asked her, "Mia tell me why do you think your parents chose not to tell their jobs about you?" she asked.
"I am what they called a rainbow user. My father is one as well and right now there are people that are looking for us," Mia siad. Mia wondered if the judge will believe her so she offered to show the judge her ability's. The judge took Mia to an open room where Mia did several tests and she knew she had to pass.
When they got back into the courtroom. The judge dismissed the charges. Mia got back to the base but Luna came to her and asked, "is it true your not really Mike's niece?" Mia looked shocked at the man and said, "NO it's not true. The court did a DNA test that proved I am his niece. They dismissed all charges," Mia siad.
Luna had doughts that Mia might be lying and Mia could sense what they were feeling. "I think it's best if you find yourself another place to live for now," one of them siad. "But I never lied to any of you," Mia insisted. "It's better this way Mia," they said. Mia was escorted off the base and she found herself alone once again.
It started raining harder and harder. The wind picked up and Mia knew she needed to find shelter. Mia stopped when she heard a tree cracking. The wind was so loud she misjudged the sound of a branch and found herself in the way of a falling tree. She had not time to get out of the way and was forced to use her wind element to keep the tree from falling on her.
Forcing the tree to change direction was no easy task either but she managed to put the tree down between two homes. What she didn't know was there was a man standing in the window looking at her. He wanted to invite her in but when he got outside Mia was already gone further down the road.
"Who was that lady?" his wife asked. "She can use a wind element. She must be part of the base but I though they only work in teams for a reason. Why is she alone?" the man asked. Mia found shelter for the night in a hidden cave. Mia found wood but found it hard to start a fire since the wood was wet from the rain. Eventually, the wood started to burn and Mia sat next to the fire and watched the rain falling outside.
Exhausted from the past few days excitement she fell assleep on the cave floor and she didn't hear Sam or her uncle calling for her.
