Chapter 27

Mia was out on a run long before the sun started to rise. It was still dark and the mist was hanging very low on the ground. She went to bed falling assleep instantly and was up early the next morning ready for another run.

Red arrived to train with her and he brought his dog with him. "This is happy my dog," Red said. "He is beautiful," Mia said in a sad tone. "What is wrong?" Red asked. Mia invited Red into the cottage and made him some coffee.

"My family doesn't want me to join the rangers in fact they want me to stay at home," Mia finally said. "Why would they want that?" Red asked. "The dangers of being alone and the fact that I cost them a lot of money. They dont think it's the right thing to do. In fact they would prefer if I stay at the base 24 hours," Mia said.

"So the dog handler thing?" Red asked. "I had to let Mary - Anne know I can not take the job but she has said she would not stop asking but now I have trouble controlling my emotions," Mia said. "You can tell your losing control?" Red asked. "Yes, look outside Red. The weather siad its sepose to be sunshine today," Mia siad.

"I will have to report this Mia?" Red said. "I can try running again maybe the clouds will go away?" Mia siad. "How many times have you gone on a run since you noticed your losing control?" Red asked. "Three times, before sundown, after sundown and I just came back from another run about half an hour ago and it's still cloudy," Mia said.

"I have tried drawing but nothing is working, Red what if I lose control again?" Mia asked. "You need to take a deep breath, Mia, try taking deep breaths and counting. I am going to phone my superior and ask for help," Red said.

Mia was taken to the hospital where they gave her something to calm her down. Exhausted from running she fell assleep and Red looked at his superior. She made it as a ranger but her family isn't supportive. It looks like they want to keep Mia close not only because she is a mega but also with the treat. She lost control sir but I believe she did everything to stay in control. The only thing she didn't have was medicine," Red said.

"Her family said they could help her, I do not call this help. Mega's can not sit still they need to be working," Red's superior said. Mike and Kevin came into the hospital and looked at Mia who was sleeping. "We gave her some medication to calm her down. She is just exhausted because she lost control during the night and nothing she tried to help her gain control worked, so she asked for help," Red said.

"Why did she phone you and not us?" Mike asked. "She didn't, I paid her a visit yesterday and she said she's getting back into training I offered to train with her in the morning since I need it as well and well it's no fun doing it on your own," Red said.

"Why did she have to lose control?" Kevin asked. "Because you forgot you have a team and family to take care of and Mia has no one. She has to train on her own tell me you did remember that Megas need daily training to keep their powers under control?" Red said.

Kevin and Mike looked at one another for a second. "We only had to train once a week, why is she required to train every day?" Mike asked. "Because you have two types of mega elements. The one type is like a skill to combine elements to create a new one the other is a skill like fire but with the ability to use lava. The first one is easy to control but the second one requires more effort," Red's superior siad.

"We know that but why did Mia have to start training on her own?" Kevin asked.

Red shook his head and asked, "are you even listening to what we are saying. Mia has both types of elements and one of them did a lot of damage. It's natural that she would try and stay in control whenever she can. Remember you are older and already mastered your skills Mia is younger and still learning. It makes a big difference."

The group was talking about the dangers of Mia's power when the doctor came into the room and asked them to leave. Mia woke up a few hours later feeling refreshed. Looking around she realised she almost lost control again. A nurse came in and smile, "we let you sleep, you were really tired?"

Mia looked out of the window, "it's still raining?" she asked. "It's natural, you're not doing that," the nurse replied. Mia noticed her uncle's coming into the room. She knew she was in trouble for losing control again and then asking Red for help.

"I am sorry it won't happen again," Mai siad. The two of them looked at one another and siad, "we are only trying to look out for you. Just stay home from now on," Mike siad.

That night Mia found herself stairing at the fire she made in the fireplace. She slept so much that she wasn't tired at all. "I wish they knew it's boring alone,": Mia siad out loud. She wanted to go and watch the stars but she promised her uncles she would stay indoors so she switched off all the lights and sat at the window looking at the moon and stars shining down on the ground.

She was glad the storm had cleared but she looked at her hands and wondered if she would ever be able to do anything. Mia went to bed that night but no matter how hard she tried falling assleep was not one of them.

A loud knocking on the door made Mia jump to her feet. She cried out, "coming, just stop with the knocking," she asked. Mia finally opened the door to find Sam standing at her door. "You were here the whole time, Sally said she hasn't seen you today?" Sam asked.

"I couldn't sleep last night, only managed to fall assleep early this morning. What is the problem?" Mia asked. "I came to check in on you, Mike siad you ended up in the hospital and costing them another bill," Sam asked.

"Why is it that what I cost my uncles is the only thing they worry about?" Mia asked. "What do you mean?" Sam asked. "Because that is all they think of me. No wonder Uncle Kevin wanted nothing to do with me," Mia replied. Sam tried to talk Mai out of the idea that she was being hated by the family but left after giving up on the idea.

Sally dropped an envelope of cash at Mia's cottage and said, "this money needs to last you the whole week and let me catch you leaving this cottage again," Sally warned Mia.

Later that evening Mia found an advertisement for some movers and noticed her money was more than enough. She phoned them and told them where the cottage in the forest was and asked them to bring everything to her.

The movers arrived the next evening with all the furniture food and wood. They were busy unloading the furniture and food when Sally arrived to see what the commotion was all about. "You used the money to pay the movers?" she asked. "Yes, I wanted my art supplies so I asked them to bring everything. At least the food and wood will carry me a few months," Mia replied.

"I didn't mean you should spend all your money on movers Mia," Sally shouted. "How do you expect me to buy food when I am banned from leaving this cottage?" Mia asked. "But you had more than enough food Mia?" Sally said. "No Sally there wasn't any food in the cupboards," Mia siad.

Kevin arrived not long after Sally stormed off. He found Mia unpacking some of the stuff the movers had already moved into the house. "You could have exercised some patience her Mia?" Kevin shouted. "What am I supposed to do while waiting for you to have the time to train me. To take me to town I needed my art supplies and you didn't have the time to take me," Mia siad.

The movers left and Mia found herself going through her family's belongings. In her heart, she missed her mother and father. She had wished they never left and secretly she felt the family really hated her. Over the next weak Mia kept herself inside the cottage keeping the door locked at all times. The curtains were always drawn and she didn't dare open them.

It was one evening really late when there was a knock on the door. Mia opened the door to find the gardener standing there. "Is everything okay mam?" he asked.

"Yes, everything is okay, why do you ask?" Mia asked. "Well we have never seen this cottage this dark and thought something might have happend," the gardener said.

"No my uncles banned me from leaving the cottage so I keep the curtains closed and the door locked. I really do not want any more trouble," Mia siad. The gardener went home satisfied that he knew Mia was okay. But somehow he felt sorry for her, being locked up and kept away from everyone. Not even Mia's new friend Red has come around to visit her.

The next morning Mia was busy painting a picture of her parents when there was a knock on the door. Mia opened the door with a paintbrush in her hand. "Can I help you?" Mia asked. Only to look at her friend Luna. "I had some time off work so I came to visit. I hope you dont mind me inviting myself," Luna said.

"No not at all, I could use a little bit of company for a while," Mia replied.
