Ch 4 Growing

Seeing this notification Rez smiled.

'So just fighting will help me get stronger.'

Rez then added a point to Str.

Rez looked at the persona part that just appeared in confusion.

'maybe just like when the spirit stat unlock, this unlocks when I use my fire ability, but what does those words mean?'

Rez just sighed deciding to figure it out later.

"I hope to see everyone here tomorrow for class. If you still want to fight against your fellow students then go to the door near the nurses office as that is where the ACR is at." After he said that the instructor dismissed us.

ACR stands for Augmented Combat Room. This room allows people to fight in a number of simulated places. From rainforest to deserts, it allows student to gain some experience in fighting in complicated terrain.

'I should probably go to the open field in the park so I can train my fire. Once I can get some control I should fight some students to gain some progress for points.'

With a plan for the rest of the day set, Rez headed for the park. Not noticing the people following behind him.

It didn't take long to reach the park as Rez's combat classroom is close to the middle part, where the park is, of the star shape school building. After going to the wide open area with no grass in sight Rez looked at what he assumes is his fire abilities.

[fire:Mederin lv1, Racn lv1, Lopi lv1]

'alright lets try this. Mederin.'

Rez tried to see if he can activate it with his mind.

'Well that didn't work so lets try...' "Mederin." Rez whispered the words out. Then he shouted it. "Well there goes trying to see if it is like a voice activated ability." Rez then studied his system while ignoring the things he has no clue about, like the Persona percentage, he came to a conclusion.

'Maybe it kind of like my stats. As it just shows my growth. Well, the only way for me to know for sure is to try to level one of them up.'

With that Rez tried out his fire on the dummy made from artu iron. He first tested out his ranged capabilities on the dummies. He formed a ball of flames on his palms before shooting it at the dummy. Same as usual it didn't go far before fizzling out.

He then tried to see how much he can control the flames. He summoned another ball and tried to see if he could make it move. It could move around his body very slowly, but the second it lost contact with his body he could barely move it at all. After focusing on moving it for about 5 seconds it fizzled out.

'I can move it across my body, but can barely control it at all when it loses contact with me.'

After that he checked how much he could change the flame. First by trying to form a dagger, but only got a mixture between a ball and a very dull cone. He then tried many other items forms, but only got a ball with very vague resemblance to what he was trying to make.

Immediately the tiny staff he was trying to form went from a ball kind of close to a cylinder to almost a cylinder.

'!!!...So Racn is what lets me shape my flames.

....Or is it something else shaping falls into?' Rez was mildly surprised that a skill leveled up already. This definitely helped him get an idea on what they mean. He then repeated his earlier test with moving his flame across his body finding that it was easier and faster to move it. He then made it leave his hand. It floated there with Rez able to make it move an inch at a time for an amount longer than last time.

He then rested as conjuring all those flames and controlling them was tiring, mostly conjuring though. After that he then threw a fireball at the dummy. This time the fireball traveled farther actually hitting the dummy, slightly scorching it.

"Well look who's here." Looking to his right, Rez saw Glint along with his two lackeys, the spring guy and the shield guy that Silv fought.

"What do you want?" Rez could obviously see they were up to no good.

"Well we just wanted to practice here." Glint gives an innocent look while still approaching Rez.

Rez gave a quiet sigh. "Fine, I'll just go do something else."

As Rez was turning to leave, Glint quickly dash towards him, showing his physical enhancement ability, and aimed to punch Rez. Rez expecting this quickly dodged out the way, but wasn't able to dodge the next attack. After all how can a Tier 9 defend against a Tier 8. The pain immediately sent Rez to his knees.

"Whyy." Rez wheezed out.

"Well you see we wanted to practice on a live target. You were chosen because you were suitable and he wanted to get a few hits on you." Glint then pointed at the spring guy before looking back.

It was a struggle, but Rez managed to stand up. At this time spring guy bounced at him aiming to send a punch to Rez's head. Rez quickly sent a fire punch to his hand. When the fist collided the the small flames quickly disperse and they were both knocked away. Quickly standing up, Rez made a dash out of the training field into the forested part of park trying to make it to the buildings. Rez shirt was grabbed before he was thrown into the training dummy.

Before he could get up, an energy shield was pressed down on him preventing him from getting up.

"Now lets do some endurance training." The shield on Rez pressure increased causing Rez to grunt in pain. At that time a spring was fired at him. Rez was constantly hit over and over with spring guy and shield guy switching with Glint so they can recover. With Glint Tier 8 physical enhancement ability, he was able to easily suppress Rez from escaping his grasp. This happened for hours.

This event awakened Rez to something that saves himself from losing everything in the future. Inside his body an illusory stone circle with a dragon face floated there. The eyes burned light red as tiny flickers of flame started to form around the circle. In another part of Rez a tiny white blob formed out of nowhere and took the properties of fire as it waved back and forth.

The one change Rez did know is the one that the system showed.

Rez felt his pain start to relieve as Glint's punches rained down on him. The pain from the hits were the same, but the lasting ones left faster. Rez felt rage deeper than when he fought the human traffickers when he unlocked his system.

'Why I'm just minding my business and you decide to do this. Is it cause I'm weak. Then I'll just get stronger.... and then torture you.' At those word Rez snapped back. 'No, I will not torture them, just if they mess with me after that then I'll just bite back. Why did I consciously think something I would never think about. Its not like my usual intrusive thoughts, so what caused me to think that.'

The sun was about to set when they left. At that time Rez laid there recovering.

When Rez body felt better, he got up and headed for the nurses office. When he got there he explained what happened to the nurse. He looks at the machine scanning Rez.

"Well it looks like you were hurt bad, but your body seems to have started healing the worse ones. Does your ability grant you a lesser version of regeneration?"

"Not that I know of, my ability is fire."

The nurse managed to completely heal Rez, and after a few check ups, Rez left. As Rez left, the fire around the stone circle started to grow. Rez rage grew without him even realizing it.
