Ch 5 The Shocking Secret

After combat class, Rez was in the entertainment room playing with Tiaw. They were playing a shooting game where they had to hit targets in certain situations. Rez was further in the levels than Tiaw. Currently Tiaw was on level 7 having to hit multiple targets that were 20 meters away and was constantly moving in a pattern, while Rez was on level 9 having to hit targets the same distance away, but his environment was a weak sandstorm and his targets weren't moving.

The players were given weak crossbows to use so that the game is focused on players mastery of accounting for the environment and their accuracy. Since Rez has been mostly using his fire for ranged attacks, he has the upper hand in experience than Tiaw.

Three weeks have passed since the first day of combat, and ever since the first day of combat class, Rez and Tiaw has became close friends. While hanging out, Rez and Tiaw had revealed to each other their abilities. It didn't really matter as much as they would have came to a conclusion close to the truth eventually with all the duels they had to do. Tiaw had the ability to create vibrations. He can so far use it on himself to boost his speed, power, and defense. He can also affect other people and do ranged attacks with it, but currently it doesn't causes anything bad or good to happen to his opponents.

Rez said that his ability gives him a passive physical boost along with fire. Abilities that give passive boost are pretty rare, but still a possibility so it gave Rez a perfect reason for his enhancing body.

Half an hour later, Rez and Tiaw was about to sit down at their usual spot in the cafeteria. As they began to eat their food Silv sat down next to them. During the times Rez isn't spending with Tiaw or training by himself, he likes to spend time with Silv in the library or in the training grounds. They also explained their abilities too, Rez gave the same explanation while Silv said that she has the ability to make an ink like substance appear near her calves or elbows and can then control it freely. It has the same properties as ink, but gets denser as her ability gets stronger. Most consider this a subtype of water, but it is technically its own things as besides it liquid property everything about it from its power to ways to control it is different.

"After all this training I feel like I'm ready to do the ACR now, is anyone with me?" Silv says before take a bite out of her sandwich.

"I was actually thinking the same thing, we should all go together at night since I want to do some things while the stores are still open." After agreeing about trying the ACR, everyone talked with each other about books their currently reading(Silv) or progress in games their playing.

When the bell rung, they got up and headed to their 2nd day of Cultivation class.

Cultivation class takes place on thursday compared to combat class that takes place every monday, tuesday, and wednesday. The first day of the class, the whole freshman class was separated into four groups, were assigned days, and was told how the class will run before they left. Today was the actual first day of cultivation class.

"Lets start with how we as humans make our abilities stronger. Our ability is similar to a muscle in the fact that using it will cause it to get stronger. Obviously if the ability is used terribly than it will not grow as much compared to one that isn't. Now our abilities won't get weaker if we don't use it over a long period of time, our combat sense will though." Teacher then rambled on before quickly getting back on point. "Anyway, imagine that everytime we use our ability when training or fighting, something is added to a tank. When the tank gets full, depending on ones talent, it will burst out and raise someone to the next tier. This comes with an improved ability and a stronger body irrespective of a persons ability. Now we can do some focused training that can increase a certain part of someone's ability. This is what cultivation class is about, the focused training and increasing your tier. Obviously combat class can also be used to increase your tier..."

The teacher then began to sidetrack before getting back on track. "Now we will do some focused training today so come up to me and tell me what you want to improve and I will give a training exercise to do for the rest of class.

Rez went up and asked the teacher for a power exercise. After getting the gist of Rez's ability, the teacher handed over instructions. After taking a deep breath, Rez conjured flames around his fist. He then started to condense it on his hand. After an hour he heard a sound from the system.

At that moment, the heat coming off the flames increased and it started to look closer to a liquid. He continued practicing for the remainder of class. There was no update from the system, as he expected, but Rez did figure out a different way to increase the amount of damage his flames can inflicted. Condensing his flames may sound like an easy thing to do, but it is just like trying to move your nose. Its possible, but you don't know how to activate the right parts to make it move.

"Hey, want to hang out in the park?" Rez finished his stretch before responding to Tiaw.

"Sure I could use a break before we go to the ACR."

Breathing in the fresh air brought peace to Rez. The tension from Glint's harassment and from class flowed out like a river.

"Its been a while since I actually went to a park to enjoy myself."

Tiaw who was also laying down slightly raised one of his eyebrows.

"Oh so you are an outdoorsy type?"

"Yeah, I use to go camping all the time with my father when he was still... around."

Rez eyes shown in sadness and happiness.

"Oh, want to talk about it?"

"Yeah, we would go to the designated camp area since I wasn't old or strong enough to go out into the actual wild where beast up to tier 6 reside. We would spend the whole day hiking, with me jumping about. My mother would even kind of joke and said I could easily be seen as a beast with me jumping around everywhere."

"Must have been nice, my family just push me around forcing me to learn how to manage a business and wouldn't let me have my own time to do whatever."

"It was nice, I just wish they were still here. The reason why they are not here is why I want to get stronger. It's to get rid of all dangerous obstacle for the people I care about."

"So how did they die?"

Rez closed his eyes and gave a sigh before continuing.

"They were out working and meteors breached the defense system and destroyed the area."

Tiaw became startled before asking Rez a question

"Was that a year ago?"

"Yeah why?"

Tiaw frowned before getting up.

"Follow me I have to show you something."

Getting up Rez followed Tiaw. After walking for a while, they found themselves in the library. After walking some more they were in front of a door that had a card reader attached nearby. Tiaw took out a card from his pocket. It was a metallic green with gold contours and his last name, Platune, on it.

"I don't remember them giving the students cards."

"Well that's because only people from influential families can get one. This grants access to their private rooms and certain areas like this one."

"So what is this place?"

Tiaw unlocked the door and beckoned Rez in with his frown becoming deeper.

"This area has the more valuable information in here. From things like tier 4 and up beast locations to the location of vital places."

Rez backed up in surprise.

"Am I not going to get into trouble for being in here?"

"No, since you are with me and as long as you don't go blabbering about this to anyone. Now wait right here."

Rez stood close to the door, watching as Tiaw began to ruffle through all the books and folders in the room. Different from the library large classic type of room, this room was smaller and more ornate. It had 4 desk in each corner of the pretty small room. Everything looked more expensive and comfortable compared to the one in the library.

"Here it is."

Tiaw then flipped to a certain page before giving it to Rez. Rez quickly skimmed through the words before finding exactly what Tiaw wanted him to find.
