Chapter 47: Rescue mission

I left Harper Creek just after midnight. Cathryn had worked miracles and presented me with a valid driver’s license, since mine had lapsed while I was hospitalized and comatose. I was both eager and apprehensive about getting behind the wheel again.

“I should take you for a test drive before you leave.” Cathryn’s face had been in perpetual worry-mode since we’d decided I was going to Georgia. “Just around here, on the property.”

“Oh, cool! I can drive your car?” I bit back a smile when her face went from concern to absolute terror. “I’m joking, Cathryn. I’ll be fine. I was a good driver before ... before I was crazy.”

“Besides, she needs sleep more than driving practice.” Zoe looked at her watch. “I’d like you to get in a solid six hours before you leave.”

Cathryn bit her lip. “There’s so much I still need to brief you on. Zoe, did you talk to her about Rafe’s relationship with ...?”
