Chapter 40: The jury hardens

'Detective sergeant, moving now to the arrest of the accused. Would you tell his Honour and the jury the sequence of events.'

Milne nodded. 'We received a call from the Albury police at approximately six the next morning to say a suspect was in custody. We were told of the events leading up to his apprehension and that he had been positively identified by his travelling companions, Gregory Waite and Lisa Moody, who had confirmed stopping at the Narrabundah supermarket. I flew to Sydney where the accused had been hospitalised, formally arrested him and made arrangements for his extradition to the Australian Capital Territory when the doctors felt him able to be moved. Three weeks later I returned to Sydney to escort him back to the ACT. He was admitted to the Canberra Hospital and was there for another five weeks after which he was transferred to the Belconnen Remand Centre.'

'Detective sergeant, would you tell the court the events leading up to the accused's apprehension.'
