Chapter 43: A thumbs up for a job well done

Ryan Coleman shattered the atmospherics by bursting through the security door that separated the public and private areas. 'Ask me if I'm good,' he crowed, holding his arms wide inviting accolades as he came down the corridor, forcing Robert and Elisabeth to make way. 'Go on, ask me if I'm good.' He prodded Basil whose heavy black fringe shimmied with blue lights as he ducked to avoid the finger. Ryan wasn't going to say it a third time. 'No case to answer,' he said. 'I was so good I amazed myself.' His grin was self-conscious. He wasn't usually so effusive. 'I thought for sure old Edgerow'd give it to me. He hates me. Hates my hair.' He flipped the ponytail with his fingers. 'Keeps telling me to get it cut.' He laughed. 'It's the only reason I keep it, because I know how much it bugs him. But I won. He threw it out.'

How could it not infect you? Elisabeth congratulated him, Basil gave him a thumbs up and even Colin Petrie called, 'Well done.'
