Chapter 50: Truth or lie?

'He'd been laughing and joking when he left to go into the shop. When he came back he dropped the stuff on us in the back seat. When I asked him what he was doing he didn't say anything so I sat up and asked him what was wrong. He said nothing and Lisa was yanking at me so I went back to her.'

'Did Russell say the word nothing, or did he not reply?'

'He said the word.'

'Did you see how he looked?'

'How do you mean?'

'Well, did he appear angry, in shock, upset perhaps.'

Facial contortions accompanied the reminiscing. 'He was hyper a bit.'

'Agitated?'

'Yeah.'

'Did you drive away from the shop quickly?'

'Russell wasn't into speed.'

'So he did not drive away quickly from the shop?'

'No quicker'n we've driven away from any place else.'

'When you accused him of stabbing the shop owner, did he deny it?'

'He just went for me.'

'So he did not deny it?'

'No.'

'You drove from Redland Downs to Adelaide and then Melbourne to Canberra, is that right?'

'Yes.'
