Chapter 73: Should I tap dance too?

Judy had the whole ensemble. Bra, knickers, camisole, socks, blouse, trousers, jacket, shoes. As she drew off the hospital gown and saw the extent of the bruising she acknowledged that Elisabeth was probably right in refusing to attempt anything but the essentials. Elisabeth contributed to the dressing process by endeavouring to comply with the requests: lift this arm for the blouse, now this one. Hold your head up for the buttons. Point your toes for the trousers. Here Elisabeth said,

'And tap dance around the bed while I'm at it I suppose.'

Judy looked at the thick wads of white from knees to ankles. 'Sorry.' By the time Joe arrived she had worked the socks over the swollen streaked toes and insteps so everything that could be hidden was hidden, and the hard-bodied sister had returned and swung Elisabeth into the wheelchair hired for the duration.
