The Choosing of the Ten Heroes

1 MONTH LATER:

Daniel was knocked down by a gust of air. He hated martial arts, almost as much as learning to ancient language of heroes. He was at a huge disadvantage when it comes to fighting. Everyone else had unlocked their powers, except him. He could see Dennis looking at him with pity.

"Get up, Marleigh" cried Uncle Lester. Daniel realised his uncle has been supporting him much more than usual the past few weeks. "Get into combat stance" Lester shouted. He looked up to see Edger towering over him hands ready to great another gust of wind. Daniel heard a ringing in his ears. Edger helped him up the floor. A bell was blaring from the corridor. "That's the assembly bell" shouted Uncle Lester.

"Everyone get into a line" Lester shouted. This was new to Daniel. It had been nearly a month since he went to the Elemental Hero School. He stood behind Dennis who also looked confused. "They only do assembly's if there is a major announcement" Dennis whispered. "I wonder what's going on" Myra asked. Daniel could see that the last person in line was Catherine, the elemental hero of Nature, just like his uncle.

They walked down the stairs, past their dorms and into the Main Hall. Daniel never had the luxury to go in here every since he got here. The walls were still shining but it seemed the pictures on the wall were swapped around. Daniel saw that kids of all ages were settling in. And at the front, he saw Mrs Katina holding a book. Daniel couldn't see what it was, but he knew it was important.

He felt a dark aura coming from somewhere around him. A slight worry settled around him. He saw a hooded figure standing near the doorway. Daniel thought he was nearly translucent in the sunshine. But he knew it was his imagination. He wondered who it was. He was never seen the man around. It was hard to make out his facial features but Daniel didn't want to be rude, so he turned and talked to Alicia, who was talking to Klara as usual about who knows what. "What's up with the hood dude over there" Daniel pointed towards the doorway where he saw the man. Alicia looked in that direction "I don't see any hooded dude" Daniel turned in that direction, there was nobody there. she said "as I don't know about you, but who wears a hood in this sweltering whether."

She turned around and continued talking to Klara. Daniel was confused, and a little bit concerned. "Not that ki-" before Daniel could finish his sentence, a whistle came from the front of the Hall. It was Kirsk. This got everyone's attention. Kirsk dissappeared in an instance. It left behind a gust of air. Before anyone could react, Mrs Katrina started talking with a concern in her voice "Good morning, everyone. I know we have not had an assembly in a long time. Some of you probably have never experienced one of these assemblies. But I am afraid that your first assembly is not one that I bring you good news"

Daniel thought Mrs Katrina was going to say something about him, where it was about his unfound powers or how well he is doing in his classes. " I am upset and mortified to announce that the Gorstone has spoken, and it has prophecised that ten of our pupils will be going on a quest." And with that, the assembly broke into explosions of shouts and confusion. "But we haven't had a quest in 30 years" one girl cried. Another whistle from Kirsk, that's what Daniel thought, who was nowhere to be seen, calmed the assembly down. "I know that this is terryifying for some of you, but please relax, an evil force is rising and the ten heroes must assemble to stop it."

Daniel could see the worry on student's faces. Even Uncle Lester seemed troubled. He could feel the tention in the air. And he knew it would break soon. "We have brought in the Gorstone, and I know it isn't convenient, but every single one of you must remain in this room until the Gorstone has picked the ten heroes who must venture out" she concluded. After a few minutes of silence, one boy shouted "And what is this Quest?" he asked. "The Gorstone has not specified" Mrs Katrina replied. Daniel thought he had been sitting in that chair for hours, waiting for the unknown. That's when the Gorstone started to glow. Daniel thought he recognised the glow but he just couldn't figure it out. And the Gorstone, even though he hasn't seen it before, seemed familiar.

The kids who fell asleep on their chairs, woke up in an instant. Then, a faint sound came form the Gorstone:

The souls have chosen

Ten heroes are picked

To save the world

From the hands of Destruction

The Gorstone didn't go back to its original form. The news petrified Daniel. A few gasps went around the room. Daniel thought we had heard something similar to this before, but before he could start thinking about it, the Gorstone shone with more intensity, blinding pupils in the assembly. The Gorstone spoke once again:

"The first of ten"

"Dennis, elemental hero of fire"

Daniel could detect a faint orange that flowed from Dennis. A warm sensation filled the room.

"The second of ten"

"Alicia, elemental master of ice"

An icy blue aura rose from Alicia. She looked magestic and calm and the floor around her turned to ice. A chill filled the room.

"The third of ten"

"Klara, elemental master of water"

A dark streak of blue rose from Klara. Water started to rise above the floorboard and then stopped.

"The fourth of ten"

"Bonnie, elemental master of speed"

A faint grey aura surrounded Bonnie. She ran around the room, in circles, nearly hovering above the ground, she was going way faster than usual.

"The fifth of ten"

"Harold, elemental master of earth"

Harold stood up, this was really not doing well for his anxiety, but suddenly, his eyes started to glow a rich brown. Rocks started to float on top of him.

"The sixth of ten"

"Edger, elemental master of air"

Edger started to float into the air and flew around the Gorstone. A deadly gust made everyone hold onto their chairs.

"The seventh of ten"

"Myra, elemental master of electricity"

A bolt of thunder hit Myra. Daniel was horrified for a second. But Myra rose out of her chair and her hands crackled with electricity.

"The eighth of ten"

"Catherine, elemental master of Nature"

Vines and grass followed by flowers shot up from the ground, withering and growing surrounding Catherine.

"The ninth of ten"

"Igor, elemental master of Metal"

This surprised Daniel. The boy that he first became friends with in school, was one of the ten elemental heroes. Igor lifted his arms and held them straight. Long wires of steel shot from his hands. They shot threw a wall...

The Gorstone started to go back into normal form. 'But that's only - " Daniel was cut of from the light of the Gorstone. This time louder, the Gorstone said:

"The last of the ten"

"Daniel, elemental master of...-"

The Gorstone returned to it's normal state. The room was in silence.

Daniel felt an overwhelming sensation of power. He was lifted from the air. Daniel couldn't control his body. His eyes turned a dark purpley black. A shadow covered his body.

Daniel fell back down, but he landed on his feet. He was standing there with the other 9 heroes. Sounds went around the room as people realised the ten heroes were all from the same class. Daniel looked at Mrs Katrina and Uncle Lester. He were staring at him with deep worry. Even Kirsk seemed worried.

The ten heroes looked at each other. Understanding flowed between them. They knew they were the chosen heroes. They were going on this quest and they could could, in fact, never return...

Daniel saw a glow on his skin, it was a symbol. It showed a circle with a crescent moon...
