Chapter 3

The next day after my arrival, I woke up refreshed. I don't know how much I slept because there was no watch in my room and no phone. The TV set on the dresser was not connected so I couldn't check it either. After lying on the bed for a while, I got up and headed downstairs to the kitchen because my stomach was starting to rumble. Walking down the stairs and in the daylight, I was able to see the rooms well. The kitchen was no different from what I noticed on the day of my arrival, only what were panels that were everywhere except bathrooms. In the living room, I noticed two large navy blue armchairs matching the color of the couch.

In the kitchen, there was my mother and stepfather eating dinner as I believe.

-Hey- I smiled at them and my mother handed me a plate with dinner.

I sat down at the table in the corner of the room. Above the table on the wall hung a clock from 3 p.m.

-You slept for a long time- laughed his stepfather to which my mother smiled under her breath.

-About 20 hours, I was tired- I laughed and started eating.

When I ate my mother told me what she was doing when they were separated.

-When you eat, we have to go to the store and buy everything we need to change our appearance- the first words that I noticed since my mother talk.

-Do we have to today?- I asked, regretting that it had to happen.

-You know it's necessary, the sooner the better- my stepfather's words made me not want to eat anything anymore.

-If it is necessary, we can go now- in my voice I heard regret, but I did not try to hide it because of why.

-Don't be angry and sulky, you knew you would have to do this- mother got angry about what happens if someone asked too much.

Not wanting to listen to her anger, I got up from the table and headed towards the room.

-You know it's hard not to be ...- is the last thing I heard from my stepfather because I went into the room to change.

Dressed, I went downstairs where my stepfather and mother were waiting for me. Mom had a grimace on her face, so not wanting to upset her more, we headed for the car parked in the garage, which I had not noticed before, but it is standing by the house. We got into the car where my stepfather was driving it and went to the nearest shopping mall. We did the shopping needed for home and everything we needed to change our image. After 3 hours of walking around the gallery and listening to mum's admiration over everything, we returned to the car. Another car was parked in the underground parking lot next to our car. Sporty, expensive- looking, and with him a tall boy who winked at me and smiled.

When we returned home, my stepfather gave me new documents that started my new life. The photos showed a completely different girl. The new me no longer had long, thick, blonde hair, but short, shoulder-length brown hair. My name was no longer Anna Jane, but Alice Walker. The only thing that did not change there was the date of birth, eye color, and height. Her stepfather is now Jack Walker, a brown-eyed brown-haired man. Mom became a serious woman with brown, short hair that she always wanted but was afraid to cut her hair. Mom's new name was Katrina Walker.

Everyone must now believe that we are a family that came here because my parent got a better job offer and always dreamed of such a home.
