Chapter 4

Exactly a year and three days have passed since all these events. A little happened during this time. We came to Denver during the summer holidays, so before the new school year, I had time to get to know the area, get to know the city better, and adjust to it. Before school started, I knew more or less about the area. I knew where the places I needed were, such as a cinema, the school I would go to, shops and parks. I spent most of my vacation in Washington Park sitting on a bench by the water admiring nature and people watching. I saw a lot of people who lived near us, but also teenagers of my age. They walked in groups and were fooling around. All I did was watch them sitting on the bench. When the weather was bad, I sat in my room reading books that I systematically bought while in the store or asking Jack to buy me something. A few days after my arrival, Jack and I drove to the electronics store to buy me a phone, a laptop, and some other things I needed. My mom wasn't happy then that Jack had spent so much money on my stuff because, as she said, I didn't need that much.

-You bought it for her unnecessarily, you spend money on her unnecessarily. She will destroy it yet and she will want new ones- she looked disgusted and returned to making dinner.

My mother didn't speak to me then for two days and Jack decided that I was a teenager and I needed to fit in and they would be useful to me.

After arriving, my mother looked for a job for two weeks until she found a job in a flower shop. The stepfather continued his work as a lawyer. We looked like a normal family that we weren't, but nobody needed to know. When the school year started, I was a new person at school. Everyone looked at me as an object from an exhibition. I felt uneasy when everyone was watching me. Most of those people have known each other longer and I am such an outcast.

During this year, I adapted to the new school, the classes I had. I met a lot of people, but I only got in touch with three people for a longer time. I tried not to lean out, but I did not quite succeed. For such a large school and so many people, I had to bring an enemy.

A girl named Amber didn't like me from the beginning when I came to school. It all started when I was walking down the corridor in search of a class in which I was supposed to have classes, someone poked me with an elbow and I went to some girl. This girl turned out to be Amber, when I tried to apologize to her, she made a fuss and started to push me with a grudge that I did it on purpose. My attempts to apologize to no avail, so she's been trying to bite me since then, and I've been ignoring her ever since.

I also met Lise, Clare, and Simone that day. I went to some classes with each of them. They warned me about Amber and informed me about all the news at the school. From the girls, I found out that Amber is getting bigger because her parents have a lot of money and she shuffles them left and right. If he has any problems, his parents will always put her out of his problems and he does not worry about anything and does not worry about anything.

A few days after the start of the school year and my going to school, I got to know the object of most of the girls' sighs at school and the outrages of this city. With bad luck, I had to run into him, the city's greatest terror. A boy who shows no compassion, forgiveness, or forgiveness. Luke is tall, tattooed, blonde with blue eyes and a sullen expression on his face.

I was looking for a class in which I had English, but I got lost again and it was already moments after the bell. Looking at the timetable sheet, I felt like I was bouncing off something hard. The phone and the note flew from my hands and my butt hit the hard floor. I looked up at the object I hit and saw the boy. At first, I didn't know who it was.

-Sorry, I didn't want to run into you- I started gathering my things and got to my feet.

The boy looked at me menacingly and when I stood on my feet I felt him pushing me against the wall and pressing me against her.

-Watch you walk, idiot- he brought his face so close to mine that I felt the mint from him.

-I didn't do it on purpose- I pulled myself together and bounced off the wall and the boy let me go and I quickly walked away from him, going to the room.

-Be careful who you mess with- the last words I heard from the blonde, but I quickly ran to the room.

During the lunch break, I told the girls about the situation in the corridor. Lisa then said that the boy I ran into was Luke Ockner, the greatest fear of the city and the sex object of every chick at school. The boy is 2 years older than us, but he didn't pass, so he is only a class above me and the girls. Simone told me to be careful about myself because if I bumped into him and I shook him back, he may want to take revenge on me, and since he's in a gang, he has such possibilities. He was alone in the corridor and there were two boys in the canteen with him. I saw them for a while because the blonde with friends was only for a moment at lunch. When he left the cafeteria, I had the impression that he looked at me with a menace in his eyes, but I tried not to think about it.

I didn't talk about what happened at school or who I met my mother or Jack. I didn't see the point because they wouldn't do anything about it except that it was my business. When Jack asked how it was at school, I said it was okay, my mother didn't care. Mom has changed since we came to Denver. She started acting like I was a problem and I needed to get rid of myself. When Jack tried to get me acclimatized, she made a grudge, took offense and there were days when she didn't speak to me. Since arriving, I tried not to get in her way very much or upset her. Jack tried to explain to his mother, but I knew she wished I hadn't been here. She wanted to start a new life, cut herself off from the problems of the past, but I'm still here and I'm creating a complication just by being there. I don't let her forget about her problems and start over.
