The old school year ended a few days ago. I have the last year of study left for me and the girls before I go to college if I choose it because I do not know what the future will bring. It had been quiet for the previous year, apart from school events. Amber cheated on me whenever possible, be it at school or somewhere in the city when she met me. After two weeks of her constant chattering and humiliating me, I started to defend myself and not let myself be pushed around, which annoyed her because I didn't sit quietly like most people at school. The more I defended myself, the harder she tried to be unpleasant to me and make me feel sad. She tried the whole year, but she failed, which made her incredibly angry at the end of the year.
I tried to watch out for Luke and not get in his way, but with my luck, I always fell for him somewhere. I had to run into him and his friends at least once a day. One of them was named Peter. Tall chestnut with dark eyes, he also has a lot of tattoos on his body which he often showed wearing short-sleeved T-shirts. The second of Luke's friends was Mike. The boy is a bit shorter than Luke or Peter, he often dyed his hair different colors. He had much fewer tattoos than his friends, but he looked scary. Peter was the kind of person who often laughed or fooled around with Luke or Mike. Luke smiled occasionally in their company, but Mike always kept his face threatening.
Bumping into Luke I often heard threats from him and every time I yelled back what he didn't like. However, he never did anything to me.
For the next three weeks of vacation, Lisa and Simone have planned a trip around Colorado. The girls said that I have to visit at least Colorado since I live here. Since it's a vacation, we can organize a trip. We're supposed to drive Simone's car because Lisa hasn't got her driver's license yet and the only person who has one is Simone. Everything related to our trip has been planned before the holidays. Each of us agreed with our parents. It went quickly with the girls' parents, but I had a problem with convincing my mother. Jack said it was a good idea, so far nothing threatened me so he saw no problem why I can't go. My mother did not want to let me go because it costs money, they will spend money on me again and she doesn't understand why I should go anywhere if I can stay at home because I don't care anyway. A quarrel between my mother and Jack then arose because he did not like the fact that my mother insults me and makes me sad. Jack didn't speak to his mother for a week. I didn't speak to my mother for a long time because her words hurt me. For a long time, she used to bite me quite often and say words that made me upset. However, it was always when Jack was away because he was at work, but then they were together and my stepfather stood up for me, which my mother did not like. The day after this quarrel, Jack came to my room.
-I can?- Louis asked standing in the doorway.
-Sure- I shrugged my shoulders and kept looking at the TV with a series of shows.
The stepfather went inside, closing the room door earlier, and sat down on the edge of the bed.
-You can go on a trip with your friends,- he said after staring at the TV with me.
When I heard what he said, I looked at him surprised
-But my mother forbade me to go, besides, I don't have money for it and I won't ask you for it.
-I'll convince her, and even if not, I'll let you so you can and you don't have to worry about the money- Louis smiled at me and took something out of his pants pocket and then put it on my lap.
The item he put on my lap was a credit card, but I didn't know whose it was because it was definitely not mine. After all, I don't have it, neither would he give me nor my mother.
-Why are you giving this to me? I won't take your card- I looked at him and pushed the card closer to him
-She's not mine,- Jack said.
-If there's a mom, I won't take her anymore- I shook my head. If my mother found out, she would probably throw me out of the house.
-The card is neither mine nor your mother's. It's yours, I opened a bank account with your new name and since we came here I have been transferring money there to give it to you some time. Mom doesn't know that, I never told her. She doesn't know how much. I earn exactly so I don't know how much money I transferred there. Now I give you a card so that you don't have to worry that you don't have any money. The card and everything on the card are yours, you will use it when you are careful-as if he were talking about the weather then he shrugged and smiled.
-I don't know .... what can I .... say- I couldn't get any normal sentence out of me.
-Thank you, that's enough- laughed chestnut.
I threw myself at the man and hugged him tightly.
-Thank you Jack really, I wasn't expecting this and I'm so thankful to you,- I said quietly.
-Pin is the date of your birthday. I'll be getting ready, I have to go to the company for a while- Jack hugged me one last time and left my room, closing the door.
I couldn't believe what Louis had done for me. Although he wasn't my biological father, he treated me like a daughter and always tried to protect me, but I would never say that he would do something like that for me. I think he subconsciously saw that my mother changed or would change, so he decided to somehow secure me.
The day of departure is tomorrow in the morning. Mom with a big grimace, but after a while agreed that I should go. For her, it was on hand because for three weeks she can take a break from me and have the life she always wanted.
For the trip, I packed two days ago and all my things fit into one larger bag and the girls could not decide what to take and each ended up with one large suitcase and a bag and a handbag. I take a bag and a backpack if we were to visit somewhere so that I could hide my wallet, phone, or other necessary things.
The next day in the morning Simone drove up from my house with Lisa in the front seat. Simone honked her horn as she parked in front of the house so I could get out because that was what we had arranged the day before.
-I'll be leaving now. If something happens, call me and we'll see you in three weeks.- I waved to both of them, took my things, and left the house, heading for the black Mazda CX3 Simone. I put the luggage in the trunk and got into the back seat of the car.
-Ready for the best vacation trip?- Lisa turned to look at me.
-Absolutely. On your way !!- I laughed and Simone put on the music and we went on our way laughing and singing.
We traveled all over Colorado with the girls. We hopped to Colorado Springs for four days of sightseeing, the next stop was the White River National Forest and the nearby towns where we stayed. For the next few days, we went to Grand Junction where we spent one day at Bananas Fun Park having fun like never before. For the rest of our stay in Grand Junction, we visited the area and the city itself. We took a lot of scenic photos as well as our own. Last week of our trip we decided to go to Gunnison National Forest via Montrose. After visiting Gunnison National Forest, we stopped in Salida and the next day we went to Canon City and from there to Pueblo which we visited. We set aside the last day to go home. We had a lot of photos, I bought a lot of souvenirs from every city we visited and wherever it was possible. During these three weeks, I had a great time, I didn't think about my problems, but lived in the present moment. I laughed to tears, sang hopeless songs with the girls, not worrying about the fact that people are watching, I danced in the moonlight until my legs ached and the next day I struggled to walk, but I had a wonderful time. It was the best three weeks in a really long time.
During the trip, the only person who wrote to me every two days was Jack, he asked me if everything was fine, how I had fun and if I liked it. He was the only one who wrote, my mother never wrote, did not ask, is it all right, is she alive. As if I didn't exist, the only person who cared was Jack. It was him that I asked how was it at home and what was going on with him, he was the only one interested.
Despite my mother's lack of interest, I didn't care because I spent the best three weeks I could.
We returned to Denver after 10 PM in a great mood. Driving up to my house, Simone turned the volume down so that there would be no complaints from the neighborhood
-See you downtown tomorrow?- Simone asked before I got out of the car.
-Sure, we'll make an appointment tomorrow morning for what time,- Lisa smiled.
-Then we'll see you tomorrow. Bye chicks- I got out of the car and took my bag from the trunk.
As I headed home, I waved goodbye to them and they left. I entered the house in a great mood and closed the front door. I walked down the hall to the living room where Jack and his mother were sitting.
-Hey,- I spoke louder so that they could hear me because they were watching TV.
-Alice, you're already- chestnut quickly got up from the couch and came to hug me.
-You sunbathed,- said the mother standing next to me and hugged me when he let go of my stepfather.
-We missed you, it was empty here without you- at Jacek's words, I saw my mother grimacing so she probably didn't mind that I wasn't there.
-I missed you too,- I smiled kindly.
-How was it? Did you like it?- Jack smiled and my mother was standing by looking at me.
-Oh, I liked it so much, it was really fun,- I laughed loud.
-Can I get you something to eat?- I heard my mother asked who went towards the kitchen.
-No thanks, I ate the way- I looked in her direction with she shrugged and went deep into the kitchen, probably for something to eat for herself.
-Em. I will go to my room- I said and took my bag which I had placed by the stairs earlier.
-I will help you-, Louis took the bag from me and helped me carry my things to my room.
-Thank you- I smiled at him because after him I was the only one to see that he actually missed me.
-Refresh and rest and then I'll come and tell me how you had fun?- he asked when I sat up on the bed and he put the bag down by the bed.
-Sure, if you want to hear how it was- I smiled and Jack walked out, leaving me to embrace myself.
An hour later, after taking a shower and changing into my pajamas, I sat on the bed and turned on the TV. Sitting on the bed, I heard a soft knock on the door.
-Come in- I turned to look at Jack who was standing in the doorway with two mugs.
-Would you like hot chocolate with marshmallows?- Louis gently lifted the cups up to confirm that he had the aforementioned drink in them.
-Sure, sit down- I patted the bed next to me to make him sit down as he handed me a cup.
-Okay now tell him how it was- Jack drank his drink which I did as well and started telling him everything.
I finished telling him everything after three hours until the clock struck 2:57 am.
-I'm glad you had fun with your friends, you charged the battery for the next school year, but you still have a week of July and the whole of August to rest- I smiled at Jack's words.
-I made an appointment with the girls at the gallery if you don't mind- I looked at the man and he just smiled.
-Of course not, and now we are going to sleep if we have to get up in the morning- Louis hugged me for a good night and took the mugs and I turned off the TV and the light, going to bed earlier setting the alarm clocks to get up in the morning to meet the girls.
